The new version supports as many games in full VR and 3D as before, plus a few more. Including Skyrim and Crysis 3. If a game opens in Virtual Cinema Mode then because we found that it suits this particular game better. This is usually true for third person games for example.
You can always switch to full VR by turning off the Virtual Cinema Mode if you prefer that even for third person games.
Please also make sure to read the Essential Game Hints in the vorpX help. For most games you have to adjust the field of view to make things look correct. The Essential Game Hints list all options you have to deal with this (differs from game to game).
Your options are just wrong. Skyrim definitely works 3D. When you are in game press DEL and look your settings.
That is not true!
Crysis 3, Elder Scrolls Skyrim is on the list… and it works only in 2D!
I’ve got exactly the same problem. I installed everything following the documentation, got the latest drivers and when I launched skyrim with Vorpx, the screen was overlapping and the images seemed crossed. I hope there is a way to fix this?
Since this thread is still active, could I get some REAL help with setting my xbox 360 controller for Skyrim with Vorpx, and incidently a correct resolution as well? I’ve posted something in the Tech Support thread, but no luck yet.
Skyrim (again)
Thanks.
Ok, I’ve been fiddling with that damn game all day long, and I’m just about to give up on the whole stuff. I’ve searched threads on this forum and elsewhere and nothing helped. I’m at my wits’ end.
The game runs with Vorpx 0.9 in the Rift. I can’t set the resolution to 1920×1080. If I use Vorpx best settings thingy in the config utility, I get the “your device doesn’t support this resolution” (paraphrasing). A bit frustrating. So pixels and ugly, but still somewhat playable (visually)
But really the worst thing is setting controls with a Xbox 360 pad. I’ve gone through the ingame menu and disabled the pad in order to use the Vorpx mapping, but that thing just doesn’t work for me. the Left stick goes all crazy, walking at the pace of a sick tortoise or just going the opposite direction of where I want to go. I have no external pad mapper installed, and I’ve tried the inversion options.
In other words, I can’t play Skyrim with my pad without sacrificing head tracking by using the original mapping, and my keyboard is too far away on my desk (due to professional setup limitations) to play with it, so I basically can’t play Skyrim at all in VR.
Some good help would be appreciated. Skyrim is one of the reasons I bought Vorpx in the first place, and is right now the only game that has the potential of working for me (and Saints Row III, but here again there’s something awfully wrong with the controller).
Sorry if I sound angry, I’m getting increasingly frustrated at my noob ineptitude when it comes to Vorpx.
Ran over some of my favs real quick to see how they did against the new updates:
Bioshock Inf
Fallout NV
Skyrim
Dishonored
Dying Light
All work and hook normal, direct mode is cool(extended never was an issue for me but this is way nicer). The games all seemed to really run great. Super smooth and clear, it was fine before, but now Something just feels so much smoother. The view mode so people can watch is perfect too! Time for some serious VR sessions with the dudes now that you can see what the person is doing. Really lovin it so far, great job.
Hi Ralf, and thanks for your great work.
I have a quick (and probably stupid) question: How do I watch SBS or OU 3D movies with Vorpx? Whether I use VLC or MPC, I actually get the double image on the virtual living room’s screen, not a 3D one.
What am I doing wrong/not doing? I must admit I have no idea how to setup either of those softs for 3D.
As for games, I’ll have to try and experiment with as many titles as I can. Only tried Skyrim and it was horrible. Probably not your fault :)
“failed to initialize render” in Skyrim can mean that the game runs at a resolution that is not supported by the headset. Make sure to set the resolution to 1920×1080 (DK2) or 1280×800 (DK1). Also try to change the “graphics adapter” in the launcher options.
This will become less problematic with the next vorpX version, which will allow you to use almost every resoution you want.
Hi all
So vorpx is not working at all. I have tried portrait and landscape options and I’m 100% sure vorpx config is right.
Couple months ago i was able to get some games running, but now its not working.
For example if I try to launch skyrim it just says failed to initialize render.
I use windows 8 and I have latest amd drivers (no beta).
I have bitdefender as firewall but I have excluded folders
Finally got it working. Had to uninstall everything. Unplug all of the DK2. Reinstall 0501. Then plug in the DK2. Then Vorpx. All is working now. Setting up Skyrim to be playable a bit more challenging but progress is being made.
Mite have to pick this up when it comes out, last star wars games I played were on the N64 lol
Fallout 4 will work fine, I’m 99% sure, should be an easy tweek to Skyrims. If you’re as wet as I am on day one change the exe to skyrims. Bet you dollars to doughnuts it hooks and hopefully has G3D!
Ok assume the PC is amazing because I’m going all out on a new gaming PC in 2016 with a Pascal GPU from Nvidia when they release and making sure the components can back it (New Everything)
So that being said answer in regards to each game listed specifically:
1. Skyrim
2. Outlast
3. Alien Isolation
If you’ve configured these games how well did the configure to suit VR and was the overall experience better with VR?
Give each game it’s own specific answer… It’s really going to help me decide on if I’m going to get a CV1 of the Oculus, because I gotta have more than Eve Valkyrie to invest in it =/
Naturally I’m assuming, games that are devolved specifically for VR are typically more immersive than games which where not devolved for VR…
But my question is overall how do games like Alien Isolation, Outlast, and Skyrim function with a VR headset…
Do you feel like the Oculus benefits these games or is it more of a hassle than it’s worth?
Are the DirectX 10&11 First Person games better or worse with VR?
Is it possible to let vorpX launch without an Oculus device attached?
I would like to mirror Skyrim for example with TrinusVR but I can’t get the aspect ratio right. Is there any way to trick the app into launching Oculus mode on Screen?
Thank you.
