Please re-read the reply above for the explanation why stereo 3D rendering costs a lot of oerformance. Also the game is still in alpha state and poorly optimized, especially in the persistent universe.
For better performance please switch to Z-Buffer 3D in the vorpX menu which usually is a lot faster. That is the only answer I can give you, sorry.
Also again the usual Star Citizen disclaimer: Star Citizen is not officially supported. Like the start message indicates the provided profile is solely for users who like to experiment with the game nonetheless. The game is still in alpha, vorpX might stop working with it (again) at any time.
First and most important: Star Citizen is not officially supported, like the start message indicates the provided profile is solely for users who like to experiment with the game nonetheless. The game is still in alpha, vorpX might stop working with it (again) at any time.
To answer your question: rendering games in stereo 3D costs about half the performance you normally would see on a monitor since everything has to be rendered twice, in addition to that there is some extra overhead for sending the rendered image to the headset.
Performance in Star Citizen should be good enough for playing Arena Commander missions, but in the persistant universe you probably will have to switch to Z-Buffer 3D in the vorpX menu, which doesn’t look as good but is a lot faster.
hi guys started playing with my dell vr
i was running with vorpx on 2160x 1400
but when i pressed alt+f the fps screen states game fps 21 and direct 90

do not use the desktop viewer. download the star citizen(vorpx) profile from cloud.
Then just start Star citizen, it will hook on its own. Should not matter where anything is installed. Hope that helps.
If can not hook, if you are running SC as admin may have to run vorpx as admin too.
yeah I am getting that error now as well in desktop viewer. I wasnt last night.
does it matter if the Vorpx software is located on a seperate Drive I have Star Citizen on its own SSD.
I will try downloading VorpX again tonight, maybe something went wrong with the update.
If the error “Failed to create window swapchain with 0x80070005” is shown then I am aware of the issue but unable to replicate it here so far, so I can’t offer a solution at this time.
You don’t need the desktop viewer as a Star Citizen workaround anymore though, vorpX now has a semi-official profile. You can just launch the game and vorpX will hook into it.
This is Awesome, works great. Thanks, Ralf!!!
But, this will ruin my freetime…as in, I won’t have any because I will be playing Star Citizen with my Rift…LOL
Thanks again!!!
Oh, and Star citizen works fine, Just the viewer will not load up for anything. not even just the desktop. I tried everything I could think of. even reinstalled the Oculus software. Have not tried reinstalling the Vorpx software, but did not really want to try that as not sure how that will work.
Is there anything unusual about your GPU/monitor configuration, two GPUs, multiple monitors etc.? If so, please try with only one monitor (and the headset connected to the same GPU in case of a multi-GPU system).
BTW: There is an accessible Star Citizen profile in vorpX 18.1, so the desktop viewer should not be required anymore as a Star Citizen workaround.
Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. I thought I was doing something wrong. I have an i7-6700K CPU, a GTX 1080 graphics card, 64 GB RAM, and a 4K 55″ Samsung TV for a monitor, 3ft. from my nose…lol. Seeing the screen in my HMD was not as good as on my big monitor. It is sort of like TrackIR but you get to see directly where you look., with Vorpx. I am going to try with the lower rez, as you suggested, and see what happens. I realize CIG is in no hurry to do VR, yet. Way too much on their plate for now. But Star Citizen will look awesome in VR.
Have you been able to force Star Citizen’s fov wider than 95 degrees? the cl_fov command does not work in 3.0 so the only way I can make Vorpx look OK is with a very small view window.
Since sometime 2016 until recently Star Citizen crashed shortly after starting the game. Surprisingly vorpX 17.3.0 apparently hooks into alpha 3 again, so I will check whether a basic profile makes sense or not. No promises, don’t expect anything, but it will be looked into.
Thanks for the latest update Raif.
It works really well now as long as you follow the procedure. Even the immersion setting works. No more using Tridef3D and Cinema mode. Head tracking is great. That was the first time I entered the PU as I did not think it would run well with Star Citizens frame rate. I was just entering Arena Commander where the frame rate is 60 plus easy. But honestly, I could not tell any difference from being in VR. Might have some thing to do with Star Citizens frame rate problem coming from server side and not cpu/gpu.
A basic profile would be great, then we could save our changes to it :)
