@goshops – I use OBS but with some games it doesn’t work correctly.
@all – so had someone correctly launched the Steam version with OBS?
I found that VorpX isn’t injecting into any games through steam. I tested this with Psychonauts. If I open the EXE directly it injects fine, but if I launch through Steam it doesnt. I think it may be to do with having steam set to run on administrator mode. I therefore tried to run vorpX as administrator. It prompts me for run as administrator but when I accept it seems to crash and hovering over the icon in the system tray makes it disappear. Looking at the task manager it appears not to be working. I then can’t get vorpX to run at all until I open the config first and take off the administrator setting.
Could you please help?
P.s. Psychonauts with Virtual Cinema is awesome!
P.p.s. Setting steam to not run as administrator makes everything work fine, so not urgent issue.

Thanks again Ralf… sorry to misuse this “steam games crash” thread for an FSX question. Not there yet, but I will continue to experiment. I am using Windows 8.1 and Nvidia GTX 680 by the way. I am now set up directly as you suggested rather than trying the various other modes I was experimenting with. Setting now is:
DK2 as extended desktop and set as screen 2
DK2 set to landscape flipped so its the right orientation for Windows 8.1
VorpX set to Show on Rift DK2
FSX set to 1920×1080, full screen selected
I am seeing in some tests a popup in FSX from Vorpx warning me that DX10 is 2D only… why might it think I have DX10 selected? I definitely do not have the “preview DX10” option ticked.. I checked that explicitly.
Almost all games we are working with are Steam games.
The only important thing for the Steam FSX version is to start vorpX with admin rights (can be configured in the vorpX config app). Normally this should be avoided, but Steam for some reason starts FSX with admin rights, so vorpX also needs admin rights in this case to be able to hook into the program.

Hi folks… I am just catching up ahead of updating to 0.8.1 and planning to try FSX on my Oculus Rift DK2. The machine has FSX on Steam rather than my boxed version of FSX. I see some of the issues folks have had with Steam and Steam overlay.
Do we now expect Vorp 0.8.1 as updated to work with Steam games and FSX in particular? It would be good to know before I start to set this up.
I bought vorps because of this update and rf2 will hook up, but I cannot get it working well with 1920×1080.
xcom wont hook up (steam) , also tried couple thief-games and ms flight sim x.. does not hook up..
I think that the oculus installer installe 5.0.1 for me… can that be a problem ?
Do you have your main monitor set as display in rf2 settings so if your monitor is primary, rf settings should have primary ?
There is something really strange with resolutions. yesterday I tried with my 720p display and all worked, now I changed to headess ghost to run 1920×1080@75hz and rf2 still complains about resolution at start (says it is 1024×768 or something) and the picture is really small, virtual cinema looks like it is in portrait mode but the view is small in the midde. I tried to change the rift monitor setting to portrait but it went even more messed up. I also tried few other refresh rates, with different outcomes, but non of those worked. 1680×1050 seemed to work quite well with 59hz but not with higher rates (that is my other monitors native resolution). I tried different sync settings, but no help..
What resolution should I use? and what settings ?
I also tried other supproted games in steam (thief, ms flightsim x, xcom) and none of those worked at all.. are steam versoins supported at all?
Are you sure that the FOV is set to 120?
Also do you have the same kind of effect in the Virtual Cinema lounge? If not, it’s the game FOV setting causing this.
Does look like games with a narrow FOV look without either an FOV fix applied or the image scaled down, respectively a letterbox AR mode used. You have to apply the 120° in the Game Settings Optimizer AND follow any additional instructions given there.
If the optimizer fails for some reason, here are manual instructions. Shouldn’t be necessary to do this yourself though.

Bioshock Infinite

(A bit complicated for Infinite unfortunately since the FOV is calculated as an offset.)

Please check whether a game you want to buy is supported by vorpX beforehand:
Supported Games
vorpX works with even more games than those on the list, but if you want Stereo 3D, it has to be supported.
Just like Steam games and most other things licensed digitally vorpX licenses cannot be shared or resold. Details about this can be found in the terms and conditions: https://www.vorpx.com/terms-conditions.
Ok so I do the renaming a lot. Not all but some steam games just wont launch if their executable is renamed even if launched from the exe directly. It is unfortunate. Sometimes a retail box copy of the same game that is not installed through steam will work. For example renaming Singularity’s exe to udk worked for me because I was using an old retail box copy from before I even used steam. Others running the steam version were unsuccessful getting it to work.
If people have found a way around this for the unfortunate games that do not allow renaming like DMC, Killer is Dead, or Street Fighter IV I would love to know myself.
Stereo3d gaming has never been easy. It has it’s own challenges. You should read all the official setup posts. With all games in Vorpx start by setting the FOV to 120 or the highest you can provided it is above 90 at least. Do this by ingame sliders, ini edits, console commands, the built in Vorpx game optimizer, Vorpx menu FOV adjustments, or programs like Flawless Widescreen or Widescreen Fixer. Since you are a developer you should be able to pick this stuff up very quick. In the Vorpx menu ingame try setting it to “Letterbox 2” I find that this combined with an FOV of 120 seems to eliminate any view distortion when looking around.
Next you will need to tweak your mouse sensitivity til it matches your headtracking. There are a number of ways to do this whether through the vorpx menu, the game menu, inis, xpadder mouse emulation, or a combination of all the techniques til it fits.
Then you need to set your graphics so you can maintain 75 fps at all times whether in combat or complex outdoor scenes. Use Z3D if you cannot maintain the framerates at the graphic detail you desire in Geo3d.
If it sounds like a lot of work sometimes it can be, but once you have it all setup correctly games in Vorpx are the best experiances you can have in the Rift. Bioshock Infinite or Borderlands 2 in Vorpx blow any demo out on Oculus Share out of the water.
For Skyrim and a gamepad it is better to just disable the 360 pad in Skyrim game menu and in the Vorpx ingame menu. Then use xpadder to map keyboard and mouse imputs to your 360 pad.
Lots of people charge for beta access. That is Steam greenlight and any other early access game like Elite Dangerous. Id rather get a chance to use Vorpx now with updates here and there rather than wait for CV1 release a year from now.
Hey, the only thing i got working with vorpx so far is ARMA 3 (and the image is too zoomed in for some reason) All the other games i have tried like skyrim, fallout NV, red orchestra 2, dont seem to activate vorpx. When the game starts i cant get the menu to come up by pressing delete. im using the rift DK2 in extended mode and launching them through steam while the DK2 is set to primary display, also the i set up the vorpx config to the same as the Dk2 guide PLEASE HELP Does anyone have these games working on a optimus laptop?
Alienware 14
GeForce GTX 765m
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz
8.00 GB RAM
Windows 7
Try:
-open steam but don’t attempt to run the game from steam
-instead, browse to the folder where the game exe file is on your hard disk
-try starting the game from there
-if it fails, try 2 or 3 times
Works for me with arma 2 and 3 (steam games)
Howdy,
Add another one! I got Dying Light to run with geometry 3D by changing the name to DXHRDC. The built in “beta” rift support was cool and all but worked only sort of good. Now you can adjust all the goodies vorpx lets you and now its in READABLE text thanks to vorpx. If you guys haven’t got this program yet and you have and play games on your DK2 this is a must have. WORTH EVERY PENNY. Any way yeah i messed with the vignette scale and image zoom and some other stuff but it works great. Tried UDK and it hooked but no geo and I used arma 2 but no luck. But DXHRDC works great. There mite be another that hooks even better but for now I’m going with DXHRDC. Oh and DO NOT HAVE THE DEFAULT RIFT SUPPORT AND TRY TO RUN WITH VORPX it will give double screen effect. Disable factory rift support if you have added it then hook with vorpx.
teach me exactly how to do this tried renaming it to that and steam wouldnt find the executable.
