So when I go to play either Miasmata or Mirrors Edge from steam, with vorpx on they crash. This seems to happen with any setup in the general vorpx configuration and works fine without vorpx on. I have the DK2 and it works alright with other games like portal and oblivion. Can anyone give me a hint as to how to fix this? Thanks.
I’ve had no issues with Steam games and Vorpx, nor have I had an issue with an integrated card (Intel HD 4600) and a dedicated (780ti).
Ok that makes sense. I’ve played a few games in 3rd person with the rift and its actually not so bad. Rift (the mmo) for example recently added experimental oculus support and, while the interface is terrible, its actually quite good.
Does VorpX work with games that were purchased through Steam?
Have you tested it with systems that have two video cards (e.g. my Razer Blade gaming laptop has an integrated card and a high performance gpu for games)?
Hi Ralf,
I can’t get the Vanishing of Ethan Carter to inject at all. Other games seem fine just not this one.
I have ensured there are no DLLs in the directory.
I turned off Steam Overlay.
I tried creating a desktop shortcut.
I tried the rename, people have suggested.
I have tried running both the 32bit and 64bit version.
Win 8.1 / GTX 980.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I had Dayz working with Vorpx a wee while ago, but I suspect because it now launches either a BattleEye version or steam that Vorpx watcher no longer sees it.
Is there any way to force Vorpx to map certain exe’s to certain games?
hello gander,
did you manage to make your steam games to work.
i have the same problem and i’m stucked…
thx :)
Wow I just tried Singularity renaming the executable to UDK.exe and it works great! Also the flawless widescreen is a fantastic tool, thanks for that. Singularity now ranks among my top 5 of vorpx compatible games, it looks great, no graphic issues and an amazing sense of immersion.
I’ve tried myself a game that seems to have support in geometry 3d as is, Estranged. The game looks promising except for some blinking shadow thing that makes it unplayable. I think this game is supported in SteamVR, still I would like to have Vorpx options to tweak it to my liking, but I can’t fix the problematic effect with any changes in the config menu.
Also I wanted to link this page: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvER3Bq0i6sgdHRWYUc3cWpRSFRFYzJIQWEzMkhGdGc&usp=sharing&richtext=true#gid=0 It’s an old compatibility list but it could be helpful while we search for more compatible games.
I will try Bulletstorm later today or tomorrow, I can’t wait to see how well it works, thanks for that one too, it really looks like UE3 games work really well with Vorpx.
oh right so you can force vorpx to inject then? do you just change the exe name in windows, I would like to try deus ex 1 and gears of war 1, both those games never injected, but am I right in saying if I change the gears of war exe to armaII exe vorpx will inject?
Yeah any game that you rename to arma2.exe will hook vorpx to believe it’s the real game. Also try UDK.exe, both will hook and work even in geometry 3d, and pls keep us updated of the results.
I was hoping we could build a sort of unofficial centralized list of games not officially supported but still allow for stereo 3d whether that be z3d or geometry3d. I am not talking about games that run but only in 2d. lets be some good beta testers and post our results.
So I will start with one.
Singularity:
It is Bioshock like FPS game. It runs in geometry3d and z3d. The default FOV is way too low and the ini files are not configurable however you can fix the FOV with a 3rd party program called Flawless Widescreen. The default headtracking too sensitive. Turning it down all the way in the game’s menu helps but that makes a gamepad impossible to use. If you want to use a gamepad just turn down the headtracking sensitivity in the Vorpx menu till it feals right with your in game sensitivity options. Takes some trial and error but you can get it perfect. Game runs smooth as butter and with no judder in z3d max settings with a gtx 970. Some judder in geo3d but im sure that can be worked out I just haven’t tried as it looks and feels fantastic already.
I tried Singularity on Steam and Vorpx hooked it but didn’t recognize the game so no 3d at all, did you do something to make it work?
Seems like a great candidate for VorpX, but I’m of course having problems.
When I run the game, it pops up on my main monitor (and I’m still trying to figure out how to fix that). The “VorpX” splash is on it, but it’s rendered completely normal. If I can get the image on my DK2 (I have to make it my main display and then move the window over), of course it’s just the usual uncorrected gibberish.
The reason this is frustrating is because once, just once, I saw the game come up correctly for the rift, but on my main screen. It was distorting the way Rift games do and looked to me like I’d finally done it, but I can’t make it happen again. I’d been experimenting with a whole bunch of different things like main screen on/off, using the dedicated VorpX shortcut or not, running from Steam or the exe…
Has anyone else made this work reliably?
Hey there.
The first thing I can see is that you probably shouldn’t have it cloned to your primary desktop as the rift needs to run in Portrait mode; which will look small and at a right angle on your monitor.
I have mine set to the left of my monitor (in extended mode) and have it rotated to Portrait.
As for getting games to work – I know that in Euro Truck 2, you have to right click on the game in steam and in the properties, enable the Beta support. Restart steam, then once it does its small update add the line “-oculus” (no inverted commas) to the startup option (also through right clicking the game and choosing properties in steam).
I should also add that as Euro Truck has its own internal Oculus support (with full tracking etc), you shouldn’t have VorpX running at the same time.
Remember that any game (HL2, TF2 etc) that has its own support for VorpX shouldn’t have VorpX running while you use native support – if you choose to do it that way. Follow the guides on the steam forums to get those games running natively. They’re fairly straight-forward.
Apologies if I’m repeating things you’ve already tried!
If you got this problem with multiple games in a similar fashion, it’s quite likely that something on your PC is blocking vorpX. There are various kinds of programs that also hook into games, not all them are obvious cases. Try to disable/uninstall all such software. A few examples are:
– Additional graphics driver software that you might have installed. For example: MSI Afterburner, GeForce Experience, Lucidlogix Virtu
– Video recording/streaming software you might have installed. For example: Fraps, Dxtory, Open Broadcaster, Splashtop
– Chat programs that can show content over DirectX, like Skype, Mumble, Evolve, X-Fire
– The Steam/Uplay/Origin ingame overlays
For WOW please also check whether switching from 64bit to 32bit or vice versa makes a difference. Normally both should work, but in some cases one might work better than the other. It’s also best to use DirectX 9 instead of DirectX. You can change these settings in the WOW launcher.
Just purchased Vorpx about an hour ago. I haven’t been able to get any games working with Vorpx and I’ve disabled all DirectX programs, disabled Steam overlay, etc. I have my Rift in Extended Mode, and I have set it to my primary display. I am using an nvidia 780 ti and an i7, so my hardware is good. The main game I am trying to get working is Skyrim. I’ve tried Arma 3 and not getting anything there either. I am using a DK2. My DK2 is functional since I can run demos from Oculus Share just fine.
Be sure to not only have vorpx running, but the system tray should show that the driver is running. I used to launch Vorpx and never hit “Apply” before running the game.
I bit the bullet and downloaded the Steam download of Dirt 3 and reinstalled the game.
I also deleted my hardware config xml files in My Documents\My Games\Dirt 3 (from memory).
Make sure everything works in 2d.
Then grab and launch Opentrack – set it to use Freetrack and hit start.
Launch Vorpx and hit apply
launch game.
In game, bring up the menu and switch the 3d mode to Geometry. I was impressed with other modes, but once I hit geometry the 3d popped out at me and was really impressive.
1920×1080 works and borderless window in Steam games with auto-hide on taskbar
I’m having similair issue’s but only with a few games,
These games work for me :
Fallout New Vegas
FarCry 3 & Blood Dragon
Mirrors Edge(but not steam version)
Garry’s Mod
DayZ
Stalker Call of Pripyat(but shows a blackscreen can hear sounds tough)
Battlefield 3
Crysis 3
F.E.A.R – wich launches with vorpx but runs on my normal screen not the rift even tough the rift is primary display.
Games that do not seem to trigger vorpx:
Bioshock Infinite – the game launches but is not running via vorpx
F.E.A.R 2 – Crashes at startup but briefly triggers vorpx.
