@Ralf – my issue may be limited to that specific location or at least a subset of locations. I have been running around elsewhere and not seeing the same problems. It’s still very odd though, so if you have a moment to look, just for kicks…
@AtomicWalrus – It would be interesting to see how AFR works in a title that does not have forced TAA. I *think* AFR is largely analogous to the old “frame packing” 3D methods we used with shutter glasses, and that never produced issues like we see with AFR on our HMDs. I *think* a lot of the problems stem from TAA, but that’s hard to defeat in Cyberpunk for testing (defeating TAA causes other issues.) Maybe Ralf could add an AFR mode to other titles eventually, and we might know more then.
I have created new profiles based on the DX12 profiles of Cyberpunk 2077, Dying Light 2, Death Stranding, Horizon Zero Dawn, Resident Evil Village, F1 2021 but Z-3D doesn’t work.
In my opinion we need a official vorpx profile !
The default for the controller setting in Steam’s Cyberpunk properties you mentioned above is “Use Default”, which works perfectly fine here. My guess would be that maybe you changed it before and Steam pulled the changes you made from the cloud when you reinstalled Steam.
Anyway, glad you fixed your issue. Also thanks for sharing your solution! Might indeed be useful if anyone accidentally changed that Steam setting. As far as I’m concerned I consider this matter closed.
Hey Ralf; I’m currently trying to prep a clean install of Cyberpunk for a *full* play-through (which I’ve never actually done yet – I decided to patiently wait out all the updates and bug fixes etc. Looks like, with v1.6 we are in a ‘reasonably final’ state – let’s hope!)
I’ve played with your stand-alone version of your mod for CP2077, but generally went back to playing it the usual way, as that lets me switch easily between my HMD and my 3D Display, as desired, with almost zero settings fiddling.
I generally run in full eye-candy mode, forgoing full VR for a high-detail experience with RT. In the past (I don’t think I’ve even touched Cyberpunk for 6 months now) I never have *any* problems with RT being turned on, but in my early testing, hooking vorpX to CP2077 the usual way (not the stand-alone mod,) I’m seeing all kinds of image-warping and other issues, which go away once I turn RT off. This is a new behavior I never noticed in the past, and may have something to do with CP adding new RT effect it did not previously have?
Is there any way to fix this? Start the game and just move through as quickly as possible until you are given the quest to steal the car right at the beginning. Once you get to the underground garage where the car is located look around. You’ll need to move all around the scene and look around as well; you’ll probably see what I’m talking about.
Ran into difficulties trying to play with my controller bindings because so many buttons have multiple functions. So I finally figured out why the game was not recognizing controller inputs except in full override mode. It was a Steam controller setting. I right clicked on Cyberpunk 2077 in Steam, hit Properties, went down to Controller, and switched it to “Enable Steam Input.” And then that fixed it (either that or some of the other Steam controller options that I messed with at the same time).
Now the mod’s default controller settings work with having disabled xbox gamepad override in the mod’s settings. When the mod’s default gamepad settings are enabled in this way, they do, in fact, “just work.” Wish I had found this simple solution a week ago.
It’s just too bad that the hotkey menu does not seem to work with default gamepad settings. It’s not critically necessary anymore, but would be nice to have it. It is triggered by shift + middle mouse button (edgepeek), but the sprint button on the controller is not recognized as shift. And there are no rebindings in this mode, so it cannot be rebound to be shift rather than a gamepad button. But that’s a minor inconvenience.
I was able to set it to 3840×2160. Looks fantastic, and the inventory menu works properly.
It took me dramatically longer than expected to actually accomplish this because the option in Nvidia Control Panel to customize resolutions was greyed out for me. I tried messing around with virtual monitors and all kinds of other things without success. In case anyone comes across this post and has similar issues, for me the problem was that my Samsung G9 monitor was set to 240hz. Apparently you cannot set custom resolutions at 240hz, and you cannot solve this problem by just switching the refresh rate in the Nvidia control panel to 120hz or 60z. You need to physically hit the menu button on the monitor and drop the refresh rate from 240hz to 120hz. At that point Nvidia Control Panel will allow customized resolutions. And then I went to Geforce Experience to change the settings for Cyberpunk to launch with my 3840×2160 custom resolution.
Cheers!
I assumed that was the case, as with FOV settings too. But I believe that at least some of the people who referenced using the 3840×2160 resolution are on the G2, such as Demuse, who said so in a few posts (https://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/cyberpunk-vr-update-thread/page/8/).
So it sounds like he set that as a custom resolution himself? Unless those other internal factors were dispositive. But if he did set it as a custom res, I’ll try to figure out how he did it. There are various guides, but some of the techniques don’t work anymore or don’t work for everyone right away because of Nvidia Control Panel being so finnicky with different hardware.
I really have no clue what you are doing, sorry. Under normal circumstances you see the button layout on the controllers rendered in the game and they just work. I‘d wish I could help more, but it seems like you messed up something so heavily that at this point I can‘t even really follow you anymore.
The only thing left to recommend is deleting all your Cyberpunk configuration files in C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077\ and reinstall the mod.
Also please double and triple check for any tools you may running that potentially affect input and if you have other mods installed, try without them.
You do not have to configure or tweak anything input related under normal circumstances! Everything just works with default settings normally.
I don’t know how to get past the menu screen without carrying a keyboard in my pocket because it says “Press <menubuttonstartbutton> to continue”, but when I press the left-handed menu button the SteamVR System menu appears. (And when I press the right-handed menu button, the Oculus System menu appears.)
Does someone have a tip for how to remap e.g. Left-Trigger+B to Start or Left-Trigger+Y to Start?
so I got the Cyberpunk 2077 profile to hook to Vanguard! which is already pretty cool , playing this
game in immersive screen is really fun, however the 3D does not seem to work.. obviously there is the Z3D Normal and Adaptive option but does not seem to work, maybe something in the game Graphic settings is preventing it ? anyone would know?
It definitely has depth buffer as its showing in Reshade.
Secondly the first opening level is almost unplayable due to the flashing and glowing lights / shadows? green red bright colour distortions are really annoying, I could only reduce them to go to Ultra settings but wonder if anyone knows how to reduce these glares with what Graphic settings? Shadows? Reflections?
I tried the installer without issues on Windows 11 before writing the reply above…
I didn’t have to do that on my Win 11 machine, but excluding the Cyberpunk folder as well as the folder with the installer from Defender might be worth a try. Maybe some extra “safe” (read: annoying) option is enabled on your machine that blocks everything unknown.
Thanks, that was very helpful for troubleshooting. So the issue is that the installer is just not working properly for me after I switched to Windows 11 (it worked fine in Windows 10). The installer says “Setup has finished installing CyberpunkVR powered by vorpx…” but the bin/x64 folder has none of the the files you identified.
Then I tried again by extracting the installer from the zip/rar file into the Cyberpunk directory and installing from there, which actually brought up a windows defender block for the very first time (“Microsoft Defense SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting Running this app might put your PC at risk”). But I overrode it and the install said it was successful, but still nothing new in the x64 folder.
This is the latest version of the installer freshly downloaded from your website. And in the config I have always selected Oculus, apart from trying Steam a few times for troubleshooting, which did not solve the problem (except in VD after manually selecting gamepad emulation).
You can check whether the mod is installed correctly by browsing to your [CP2077]\bin\x64 folder. It should contain a file named version.dll (that’s the main hooking DLL from the Cyber Engine Tweaks modding framework) and a folder named plugins. In that folder you should see two files: cyber_engine_tweaks.asi and vpxCP2077.asi, as well as another folder named cyber_engine_tweaks. A few more folders and files should also exist, but I’d assume that all is installed fine if the aforementioned are all there.
If in doubt reinstall the mod using the latest installer for Cyberpunk 1.6.
BTW: I just checked whether the VD Streamer interferes without actually using VD, but at least for me it didn’t.
BTW2: Also check whether Oculus is selected in the mod’s config app. SteamVR should only be used for native SteamVR headsets.
Hmm let me try eliminating VD streamer and seeing if that solves. Hopefully that’s it. Thanks!
Although first I need to get the mod to actually launch again. Among other attempts to fix this, I “upgraded” from Windows 10 to 11, reinstalled Steam, Oculus, Cyberpunk, and the mod, and it just does not seem to work anymore. When the game launches, the Vorpx tutorial no longer pops up as it did in Windows 10. I even tried doing this from Steam rather than Link and it still does not launch. But I searched and saw that others are using it with Windows 11, so not sure what the issue is. Hopefully I can resolve it and then troubleshoot the controller issue.
Hi,
I’m getting ready to play Cyberpunk in VR. I have a new 4090 and will play with max settings, standing and using head tracking instead of seated with keyboard and mouse, and running on a Kat Walk C2+ omnidirectional treadmill (which actually makes the movement controls much more comfortable when having to use the joystick to rotate). Quest 2 display, so peripheral vision is a bit blurry. And Quest 2 controllers have limited buttons and some commands need to be accessed by holding a shift-like button to access secondary key commands, so builds that are heavy on hotkeys would be challenging.
For those who have already done VR, can you recommend some builds that work well in VR, given my playstyle and controller limitations? For example, I assume that a netrunner build would not be ideal because I’m using controllers and can’t so easily work through quickhack menus, have blurry peripherals to constantly read through menus that pop up on the sides, etc. Although I also don’t want to do a netrunner again because, at least at launch, it was so stupidly overpowered that I was wiping out enemy bases without them ever seeing me. I played the game for a dozen or so hours when it first came out and then put it down, so I’m not sure what kind of controls are required for different builds later in the game with full cyberware, mantis blades, etc.
Sniper could be fun and good and easy with the controller limitations, although I had to abandon that build at launch as well because it was insanely broken, with a cheap early game sniper rifle having x-ray vision able to shoot enemies through multiple buildings without them being able to retaliate at all. I don’t know if that kind of jank still exists, but I want to avoid builds that are so broken that they are not challenging or fun.
I would think that a standard solo gunner build would probably work fairly well, although I find that playstyle to be a bit dull. Melee could be fun and more challenging than some of the others. But does melee get more complex controls later on, where I’d need to press directional keys in combination with other keyboard keys, in a manner that would be difficult to do with controllers? Do katana/claw builds work well in VR?
Appreciate any insights you can offer into builds that work well in VR with controllers as gamepads, and are fun and not excessively OP too early. Thank you.
