Unfortunately I can’t make it work using either the free look button or TrackIR. The game officially supports TrackIR in all axes – I even used TrackIR 5 with RFactor and games based on iterations of it’s engine. Therefore shouldn’t VorpX w/ TrackIR head-tracking fully work?

When using the mouse look option, the fall spins in circles while tumbling to the floor but this does not happen when using the game’s mouse look without VorpX.

There has to be ways to make this work since the game fully supports, both, TrackIR and mouse look. Although I can’t seem to figure it out, I’m guessing it’s some specific combination of game settings (notepad file a few posts up) and VorpX settings.

Thanks. I have searched this forum numerous times recently and read that link multiple times. There’s no information in it other than someone mentioning to enable mouse look. The procedure link that’s pointed to http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=365161 does not work anymore as the site doesn’t exist anymore.

RFactor and other games based on the isiMotor work with TrackIR automatically but there’s no activate/enable button, it’s just supposed to somehow work automatically – no idea how it does this but it does it as I used to use TrackIR 5 with it just fine.

Here are the games’ 17 settings to adjust head-tracking (“HMD”) as well as the mouse free-look (FreeLook”) settings. They’re 2 separate things entirely and, I think, that’s also part of my confusion with regards to how VorpX is somehow simultaneously working with both settings.

EDIT: I believe the final 3 settings “Freemove” are irrelevant to our case so they should probably be ignored.

Your actual issue:

Maybe some weird issue related to Pimax’s software that puts itself in between vorpX and the headset. Reversed eyes are conceptually impossible with vorpX’s G3D method (at least unless the profile author intentionally inverted them, which obviously isn’t the case here).

Possibly related to the time vorpX hooks into the game (before or after Pimax initializes its stuff). Enabling alternative hooking in the config app may be worth a shot. That aside maybe check whether there is some stuff in the Pimax software you can turn off. Haven’t checked a Pimax headset in a long time, but a few years back they had some custom reprojection that could change the IPD and make things appear cross-eyed occasionally.

vorpX does not change the power plan. Some VR runtimes do howewer. At least the Meta (Oculus) runtime does. Not sure about Pimax.

Starting Game Consistently

It looks like I have VorpX, rFactor, and SteamVR consistenly playing good with eachother. I just try to start them in the following order: PiTool, VorpX, SteamVR, and reversed order for closing, and also I make sure to always close SteamVR (not Steam as a whole) once I’m out of any game along with starting the games from PiTool (which automatically opens SteamVR). Some of those steps may not be neccessary but the formula seems to work every time. I also make sure not to alt-tab out of the game. This caused issues last time with the SteamVR grid-environment being superimposed in the rFactor game and led to other issues too (had to end up closing game from task manager and then restarting all VR-related programs/services).

Parallel Projections

I forgot that Pimax’s Parallel Projections is a requirement for VorpX. It says right in the VorpX Pimax guide (which I’ve read multiple times). 3D is fine now

Remaining Issues

1. I still can’t get the head-movement to work without the entire game’s screen being locked to my head (unless I run in 1 of the interactive movie screen modes or whatever which). If I enable head-tracking, the entire screen is still locked to my head but, mixed with that, there’s a teeny, tiny but of proper head movement relative to the locked screen but it’s like 3% of the entire head movement compared to the locked-screen’s head movement.

If I enable the game’s mouse free-look setting, the camera / driver’s head suddenly looks upwards while spinning and falling to the ground.

If the game supports TrackIR / head-tracking (like rFactor and all games based on it’s engine), do we just rely on VorpX’s head-tracking being enabled? Or is the game’s mouse free-look setting supposed to be activated instead (via a game’s hotkey)? Or are they supposed to simultaneously be enabled/activated?

2. The 3D is basically perfect – the ISImotor (commonly referred to as the ISI GMotor) engine that rFactor runs on has always been one of the best native Nvidia 3D Vision games anyways so I’m not surprised – however there’s one issue. Lots of the vehicles’ in-car dash’s gauges (or on the car’s dash, steering wheel, etc.) are almost impossible to look at as they’re being rendered in only 1 eye but not the other (or sometimes only partially in the other eye). It’s extremely disorientating and headache inducing even if you don’t look at it.

This issue used to only occur with games running on the ISImotor engine if the particular game didn’t have a 3D Vision profile assigned to it. The fix is incredibly easy. With Nvidia Inspector in the Stereo section, make sure “StereoProfile” is set to “Yes” and “Stereo TextureEnable” is set to “0x00000001 COMMON_STEREO_TEXTURE_ENABLED”. After that, all the games’ cars’ dashes, gauges, display screens, etc. were fixed and PERFECT.

The problem is, there’s no more “StereoProfile” setting in Nvidia Inspector, and the “Stereo TextureEnable” setting only has literally one option to choose from: “0x00000001” (no writing after it). I know Nvidia removed 3D support from their drivers but I thought simply enabling these “bits” in Nvidia Inspector would still be available.

The first time I launched rFactor with VorpX. It started fine but had 2 major issues.

1: It looks like the left & right eye are reversed
2: The head seems locked. It’s like the head cannot move independent from the body so you are always starting at the same spot (straight ahead) no matter how you move your head

I exited RF and enabled parallel projections in Pimax PiTool to see if that fixes the reversed eyes but then RF didn’t start at all after that (I restarted SteamVR as advised by PiTool.

I restarted all of Steam but then RF still wouldn’t start, VorpX would just keep saying “hooking into fpsVR” or whatever and not start RF.

I then disabled parallel projections in PiTool, closed Steam / Steam VR, and closed VorpX. I then started VorpX and Steam again. I launched RF and got into the game again. I got the “hooking into fpsVR” message again but this time RF did start but now, all of a sudden, the game looks like it’s on a big theatre screen while, at the same time, I’m in the SteamVR house near the mountains with the RG theatre screen going through the ground. I never even changed VorpX settings so how did it go from regular 3D VR to playing on a theatre screen in the Steam mountain house? I never changed any VorpX settings.

Also, I believe VorpX keeps changing my Windows Power Plan. How do I disable this? I can’t have my entire CPU’s Power Plan changing. I have certain power plans based on certain overclocks, power usage requirements (such as when my air conditioner is on, etc.).

Hi Ralf, thanks for the reply!

So I checked again, but TrackIR doesn’t show up as an option under the “Head Tracking Settings” menu. It only shows the standard HT options (Head Tracking On/Off, HT Sensitivity, etc.). I was on version 21.3.5 so I tried 24.1.0 just to see if that made a difference, but it didn’t. I do know the VorpX TrackIR feature can work on my system, cause it does show up as an option when I try running the game rFactor, so it’s something about NR2003 that it’s not seeing TrackIR is integrated into the game. I guess one other thing I should mention is that we’re (the community that still plays this 20yr old sim) using this d3d8 to d3d9 wrapper to get it running in dx9, as the game was a dx 8.1 title – https://github.com/crosire/d3d8to9. Not sure if that has anything to do with the issues.

If you have the time to look into it, you can acquire the game for free and get it up and running from the directions on this page – https://drnoisepaints.com/index.php/how-tos/installing-nr2003-in-2022/. It’s considered “abandonware” now so there’s no need to buy it (they don’t sell it anymore anyway), and the key everyone uses is a key support used to give out to people who lost their original one. Happy to answer any questions or help with setup if you decide to give it a go. If you could get Full VR working on this sim you’d definitely have the gratitude of a few 1000 people that still play it :LOL:

The first time I started rFactor 1 with VorpX, the game was in a true VR style rather than a monitor in front of you. Also, the head-movement worked in every dimension. The VorpX’s tips for the game says to go into the VorpX menu and enable TrackIR, so I did. When I did that, the view started spinning and zooming/moving and going crazy. I exited the game.

Upon restarting the game, the view was stable again. When I turned TrackIR on in VorpX settings, the view this time stayed stable instead of going crazy which doesn’t make sense to me – how can it act completely different one time compared to the next when I didn’t change any settings? Anyways, now a new problem occured. The game now looks like it’s on a screen in front of me rather than true VR mode. The VorpX settings say it’s in true VR mode though. I even changed it to cinema mode (or ambience or whatever it’s called) and then set it back to true VR mode but it still looks like there’s a screen in front of me. So I exited the game again.

Upon restarting the game, the screen-in-front-of-me issue did not resolve itself but then I also noticed a 2nd issue. My left/right (yaw) head movements now don’t turn relative to the game/screen anymore. My head’s up/down (pitch) movements still move relative to the screen but not my left/right (yaw) anymore. So I selected the reset to default option in the VorpX settings but the 2 problems (left/right yaw and not being in trueVR mode) issues still exist. What happened?

It’s like every time I start the game, it behaves differently even when I don’t touch any settings. What in the world is going on?

Not up to date but should give you some information. I haven´t played rFactor 1 myself but it has G3D support and same engine games like Race07.

Sometimes stuff breaks after updates so its never 100% sure that a game works now that has before but older games its rarely the case.

Also if a profile is missing its pretty simple to do it yourself if there is a game that uses the same engine.

G3D is all ways better than Z3D if you look purely at the depth information, but often you have to run in Z3D modes because of performance or there are graphical glitches in G3D mode. And in my opinion Z3D mode in many games isn´t far off from G3D and I think it (Z3D) looks better in VR than in monitor/TV.

Thanks. The games I’m interested in (rFactor 1, GT Legends, Race 07) are on that list under the gmotor engine. Fantastic news. The official VorpX list only lists rFactor 1.

I also read someone mention using OpenTrack with VorpX. It has something to do with head-tracking, yes? I’m using a Pimax with no basestations (AKA lighthouses). Do I need OpenTrack?

I’m interested in purchasing VorpX as I’m thinking about finally moving away from my triple 27″ Nvidia 3D Vision monitor setup. I just purchased a Pimax 5K Super in order to take advantage of their awesome trade-in deal for their upcoming 12K model.

I noticed on the VorpX page, it advertises 2 different 3D modes. I’m guessing these are true 3D stereoscopic vision and “fake” 3D (I believe this is often to referred to as z-buffer depth 3D or something like that). If so, how do we know which games are compatible with which 3D modes?

Being a long-time user of 3D / stereoscopic vision gaming, there’s a big difference to me between true and “fake” 3D. I therefore need to know which games are compatible with the true 3D using VorpX.

Furthermode, I’m also wondering about some games. I see VorpX supports rFactor 1 but does it support some other games that are built on a similar engine to rFactor 1 like GT Legends and Race 07 / Race Injection? If not officially supported, can we just use the VorpX rFactor 1 settings/files for those games?

Finally, does VorpX rFactor 1 support true or “fake” 3D? These games all work pretty-much absolutely perfectly with Nvidia’s 3D Vision “out of the box” with no special files nor fixes or any thing like that needed so I know for sure they’re capable of handling true stereoscopic vision.

There’s a separate vr mod for gtr2 and for automobilsta (which is very similar to rfactor), which should provide a better vr experience than vorpx can with these games. Should he easy enough to Google for it, or find it on Crew Chief’s forum

Can anyone help me get this looking better? Each time I run it with VorpX the resolution is just awful – unplayable.

I’ve been having to drive it in normal 2D desktop mode in the headset, zoomed right in, which is workable but not proper VR (but the res is as per desktop, so looks far better). As this (and GTR2) are on the supported list, I was hoping it would be more enjoyable. Have the same issue with GTR2 but would be happy enough just getting rFactor sorted.

I’ve never been able to get that resolution issue sorted since 2016.

After some more testing I found out it’s the track map that is causing the triangles. You can see the track map on photo 2 at the upper right. If I disable the track map the triangles disappear too. As said before this wasn’t a problem until the last two updates of VorpX.
No idea if the startup problem (character set displayed) is related to the track map.
Maybe rFactor has a track map too so you can test that?

I was going to create profiles for some gmotor engine games, but they all have in common (also the Rfactor Official Profile) that all speedmeters appear only in one eye, even when 3D Stereo is OFF, so i rather decided to put them aside because that one eye thing is quite annoying.

Just want to report that, itsnot a recent thing, i can confirm this has appeared already in voprx 18.2.4. There was no way to fix that through shader settings ect.
