If you can’t get a game to work, here are a few things to try:

    Is vorpX Control running?

The first thing you should check is whether vorpX Control is running. If it does, it displays a tray icon in your taskbar.

    Possible conflicts with other programs

If vorpX can’t attach to a supported game, interfering background programs are the most likely reason. The best way to troubleshoot this is disabling/uninstalling programs running in the background. Typical candidates are:

    • Virus scanners. If in doubt, switch to Windows Defender (good proection, yet less invasive than some others).
    • CPU/GPU utilities, e.g. fpsVR, MSI Afterburner, ASUS GPU Tweak, GeForce Experience
    • Game/desktop recording/streaming apps, e.g. Fraps, Dxtory, OBS Studio, Splashtop, AnyDesk, TeamViewer
    • Messengers/chat programs, e.g. Skype, Mumble, Evolve, Discord
    • Game client overlays, e.g. Steam/Uplay/Origin/GOG Galaxy game overlays
    • Trainers, game hacks and mod/script injectors
    • Generally everything that can show notifications in games

Another potential fix for hooking issues is creating vorpX desktop shortcuts. Doesn’t work well though with most games that require a client like Steam/UPlay/Origin etc., so their use is rather limited. To create a vorpX desktop shortcut right click the vorpX tray icon, choose “Create Desktop Shortcut”, then navigate to the games .EXE and double click it.

    Trying another DirectX version (DX9-DX11)

If a game supports multiple versions of DirectX, try all of them. Usually all should work to some degree, in some cases there are hints displayed on startup which one works better. If one completely refuses to work for you, maybe you have better luck with another one.

    Multiple monitors

If you have more than one monitor attached to your PC, remove all additional monitors temporarily and see whether that makes a difference.

    SLI/Crossfire

If you have a dual GPU system with SLI/Crossfire, disable this function. It might or might not work, but is currently completely untested and thus not supported.

    Notebook graphics (e.g. nVidia Optimus)

Gaming notebooks typically have two GPUs. A slower one built into the CPU for dispalying the desktop and normal applications and a distinct GPU for games and other graphics heavy programs. If you encounter issues with such a notebook, try to disable the CPU graphics if possible (e.g. in the BIOS).

    Intel GPUs

If you use an Intel graphics chip, you’re on your own, at least for now. System requirements for vorpX include nVidia/ATI graphics. Judging from feedback, many things seem to work with Intel, but this is completely untested. Also for some things there are distinctive nVidia/ATI rendering paths in vorpX, those won’t work at all on Intel.

Yep, I knew they were not supported, was just weird that Condemned worked so well (I didn’t even notice that there was no 3D in the first minutes) and then it just completely stops. Same thing happens when you go into the graphics menu, and sometimes it goes back to proper vorp when leaving the menu.

What I have seen in some games though (ME3, Skyrim) is that the overlay menu sometimes quits working. When I press delete, it flashes very briefly on the left side of the screen, and is immediately gone again. Just giving you more feedback here ;)

The website will be update with a current list in the next few days.

vorpX tries to apply itself to every DX9/DX10/DX11 game you start, regardless whether there is a profile for it or not, in which case an “Unsupported”-message is shown on startup.

If a game doesn’t load vorpX at all, it might either be no DX9-DX11 title or fail for various other reasons. Try several times if nothing happens. That can help sometimes.

You can also create special shortcuts, which might work better with some games than the automatic mode: right click on vorpX’s tray icon and select ‘Create Desktop Shortcut’. Then browse to the program you want to create the shortcut for and select it.

Now that things are finally slowing down a bit, I’d like to thank all of you for supporting vorpX!

Some of you experience problems with vorpX beta, a few of you even pretty severe ones, but judging from the amount of people who are asking for help here and elsewhere vs. delivered copies things turned out pretty much like they were to be expected to turn out.

By the way I’d like to apologize for the authorization process that involved (and for some still involves) far too long waiting times. That wasn’t exactly a brilliant idea. Thanks again for your patience.

All in all I’m glad, that vorpX can already provide the vast majority of you with quite some serious fun. To those who so far had more issues than fun: everything will be looked into while vorpX matures over the coming months.

Thanks again to all of you!

    Hi Fugazi,

please also check the Eye Separation setting. You should not set it too high, since this makes the world look small.

The default value of 1.0 should give you a good sense of scale, but you may want to try a even lower value.

Press Del and go through the menu and you can change the settings which can change the effective FOV and scale settings. You should spend at least 30 mins per game playing around with settings (one at a time) until you get a comfortable configuration. The default configuration might not be the best for every game and for each individual.

I just wanted to say i like the start so far, its not perfect and to be honest not quite what i had hoped but…..its not bad for a beta and i like the features so far. I tried out a few games, arma 2, skyrim, and world of warcraft 3.3.5. I found that in the recommendations of using 1280 x 960 resolution that seems to work the best as far as having a correct aspect ratio. But as others have pointed out the Feild of view is rather small in most games. it helps in games that you can adjust the feild of view. a tip with World of Warcraft is to download the wow machinima tool and use the fov slider on that (but that seems to reset whenever you hit a loading screen) and the 3d depth in world of warcraft doesnt seem that good yet. but i think so far not a bad driver set, head tracking also sometimes feel like it sways a bit side to side at a angle but..im sure it will be worked out in the future. :-) thanks for releasing it and i hope feedback will provide lots of help for improvements!

    :-)

Hello Ralph, gongratulations for your great work, great effort for a one man only.
I have aproblem with skyrim, With the default configuration all looks small, i have entered my ipd that works well with all unity demos, but i have no luck in vorpx.
Do you think I can fix in the configuration?
Can you give me some trick for configuration when the world looks small.

    thank you.

First off, thanks for everyone’s help/suggestions.

Unfortunately, having tried everything that’s been suggested several times, and having made sure there are no potentially conflicting processes present, I am still having no luck whatsoever with vorpx. I am absoloutely certain that the problem lies with vorpx; not my rift, my tracker, or my rig.

There seem to be more and more people experiencing the same issue as me with Bioshock Infinite – game crashes to desktop after 60 seconds without a crash dump or notice. Have a look at the Reddit Oculus threads, it’s developing into a common complaint.

Even when vorpx actually lasts into the game proper, I have severe headtracker issues. In 6 months of rifting, I’ve never had head movements translate into actual player character movement, but this happens constantly with vorpx. Again, I’m not alone in experiencing this.

Aliens CM still works like a charm though, so go figure!

I tried a couple of other games and thought the 3d effect was better – Skyrim certainly looked life like in depth (in both Geometry and Z-Buffer). So perhaps its just bioshock.

“World Scale – Coordinate system scaling factor. Adjust this if the 3D separation is too strong/weak.”

This isn’t quite the same as simple eye separation.

Also +1 for a edge peek toggle button – Skyrim doesn’t seem to allow me to do many things if I have the middle mouse button pressed.

Thanks for your thorough response, Ralf. To answer your question, what I thought, by virtue of the last official post on the matter, was that the status of future intentions for a fix for what seemed to be described as not affecting a comparatively significant amount of users… that the status of any specific agenda to spend further time, not to mention how much, in pursuing this particular fix wasn’t quite explicitly stated one way or another yet. I know sometimes if a problem isn’t considered significantly widespread enough, it becomes counter-productive to meaningfully allocate further official troubleshooting resources toward. Not knowing you, what was already on your plate, nor where you stood on this specific tech issue, I didn’t have a clear basis to form any entitled expectation. So, rather than assume one way or another, I thought it simple enough to ask, merely to gain explicit clarification from your point of view, on the issue’s agenda from here on out, that’s all. And you just now responded to this in spades quite clearly, so, again, very much appreciated for your answer, Ralf, thank you.

I actually bought Bioshock Infinite for PC specifically for Oculus and vorpx, but otherwise my games tend to be on console. So BI was gonna be the one vorpX test case for me. I will look over the troubleshooting list again to make sure there’s nothing I’ve missed. I hope there somehow was, and it ends up being the thing that solves it. Barring that, I look forward to your future fix and enjoying your product’s bringing out that wonderful new dimension to Bioshock that so many others are currently getting to enjoy and rave about. Envy. Want to play, too.

    Thanks.

Laszlo, vorpX beta is out for barely three days. Of course we will investigate this. What did you think? Also vorpX beta is and was sold as beta software, which is also displayed on screen the whole time, to avoid possible misunderstandings.

I’m really sorry that Bioshock Infinite right now is not working for you. Mind if ask if other games work for you?

You may also take at look at the following general trouble shooting guide, maybe it contains something useful for you:

First and foremost: If you happen to use any DLL override (like ENB Series, SweetFX or similar) for a game you want to try: Get rid of those. There should never be any d3d9.dll, d3d10.dll, d3d11.dll, dxgi.dll, xinpunt or any other system dll override in a games directory that does nor belong there. vorpX ‘hooks’ into these system DLLs, additional overrides can create all sorts of conflicts.

The same is true for any other kind of injector (like the script injectors for various Bethesda games). They might or might not work. if in doubt, disable them.

Disable any other stereo driver you might have running (nVidia 3D Vision for example).

If in doubt, disable all programs that can show content over DirectX. Skype, Mumble, Fraps, SteamOverlay are typical cases. This should usually cause no issues, but if you have problems, it’s always worth a try to temporarily disable those programs or their in-game windows.

Same as above for Desktop Streaming Applications like Splashtop. Try to disable and see whether things work better this way

vorpX only works with 32bit application at this time. This is important for example in WoW, which also has a 64bit version. The latter will not work with vorpX.

If a game has different .EXEs for DX9 and for example DX11, try both. Usually both should work to some degree, in some cases there are hints displayed on startup which one works better. If one completely refuses to work for you, maybe you have better luck with the other one.

If you have an SLI or Crossfire (dual graphics card) system disable this. It might or might not work, but is currently completely untested an thus not supported.

Disable any graphics ‘accelerator’ (Lucidlogix Virtu for example) if you use something like this.

If you use an Intel graphics chip, you’re on your own, at least for now. System requirements for vorpX include nVidia/ATI graphics. Judging from feedback, many things seem to work with Intel, but this is completely untested. Also for some things there are distinctive nVidia/ATI rendering paths in vorpX, those things won’t work at all on Intel.

Final note: There are a games that work great for some people but cause problems for others. Nothing uncommon in the wonderful world of Windows. We are trying to resolve those issues, but fixing things that can’t be replicated consistently, is sometimes tough. There might (and will) be cases were fixing issues that apply only to some will take some time.

Just finished checking out that injector version. I downloaded the mod from here:

It is an enb injector for GTA IV that was made for am Nvidia Optimus chip that does not like the regular eng. It does seem to work.

Didn’t try the Skyrim one yet.

There is an “Injector”-version of ENB available on the authors site. That seems to work with Skyrim, but I do not know about GTAIV, never tried.

That is unfortunate. It works well in Vorpx and is much faster than Tridef in GTA IV for me. I think it could handle the framerate it and would look fabulous in the rift with ENB and Vorpx. ENB works with Tridef but with the slower performance and the added framerate hit with ENB, it is a no go with that configuration for me. Maybe Ralf of someone else will figure something out after awhile.

Can anyone give me some clues about how to configure some things in Vorpx? I need to move the vignette back so I cannot see it in the Rift but when I use the setting in the Vorpx control panel, it also looks like it zooms the whole view rather than just moving the vignette back. How can I accomplish this task without getting a zoomed view? (Maybe an FOV setting in GTA?)

    Any help is appreciated.
