dellrifter22ParticipantThere is a new mod version 3.2 that should work now with the update, re-download from PCGamingWiki and run that for now.
dellrifter22ParticipantSo I just tested on updated vorpX and it still works for me in SteamVR mode. I’m running the Steam version of the game, Windows 10 with Nvidia card.
Mine hooks in fast (only displaying the COD:WAW splash for a second), but then I get about 10-15 seconds of fullscreen black until the sound and main menu boots up. Without vorpX it boots near instantly, but takes a several seconds longer with it.
I’ve noticed the game doesn’t like it if I try to change resolution while in vorpX, and will hang crash if I do so. It might help to first set the game to your monitor native res without vorpX, then relaunch with vorpX and see if you can at least get to the main menu. After that you can test other resolutions.
Sometimes quitting the game can hang it as well, so I now end it through task manager instead.
I’m not sure what else could be stopping your game load, since you say vorpX is working with Black Ops 3. But again, try vorpX in SteamVR mode if you haven’t yet. Try clicking the black screen with your mouse to make sure the window is active, and wait several seconds.
As last resort, you could reinstall the game to reset things to default, and reboot your PC.
Sorry if this isn’t more helpful, other than to say it still can work on current vorpX.
dellrifter22ParticipantNice. Hopefully that solves some of the brief frozen frame stutters some people are having. If you having choppy frame motion rather than stutter, disabling Direct Mode Async in vorpX delete menu may help. Or at least toggleing it off then back on again may help to reset it.
I’ve really been having a good time with this game. Last nights free roam adventure was a lot of fun! And I don’t think I even fired a shot. Very immersive and breathtaking world design.
dellrifter22ParticipantIf you haven’t yet, please try the cloud profile labeled Call of Duty: World at War (Improved) [dellrifter22]. The original one had black screen menus if G3D was enabled, but the Improved one should fix this. It was working fine as of a month ago, but I haven’t tried it with the latest vorpX. Will test later tonight.
Here are a couple notes I posted about the COD:WAW profile. Note that it plays best with the listed FOV Changer program loaded before you start. Here is a more direct link to the Changer that is easier to find.
If you happen to be running on oculus, it may be worth trying vorpX in SteamVR mode, which also works for oculus headsets.
Also, if the mod you are trying has it’s own exe, make sure it’s added to the profile assignments. The cloud profile only knows to look for CoDWaW.exe.
Please give the Improved profile a try, and let me know if it works.
dellrifter22ParticipantWe can’t know for certain, but I’ve had luck getting many UE4 games working G3D quite easy. They will almost always have shadow conflicts though, so expect to possibly disable them. On rare occasion (two indie games I’ve seen), a certain terrain texture method used may not translate into stereo (causing eye strain). This would be my main concern, but not too worried yet.
Steph be sure to let us know, assuming you plan to jump in day one :)
dellrifter22ParticipantAlt+C should toggle that off/on for you.
dellrifter22ParticipantSee if temporarily disabling asynch/fluidsynch from the vorpX delete menu Display Settings page helps any with stuttering.
I haven’t done too much testing yet, but it seemed to help in the couple of cases I was having choppy frame motion. But it’s also possible there are more than one causes for similarly described “choppy or stuttering”.
One launch was very severe, in which case restarting the game resolved it. I encounter the random hiccups for a few seconds on occasion, but most of the time things are good.
Turn off asynch/fluidsynch and see if it does anything.
dellrifter22ParticipantI’m still deep into Red Dead mode atm, but Fallen Order is definitely the other game I’ve had my eye on for the end of this year. Early impressions sound good and I’m happy to see it available on steam.
Looks like Windows 8 is supported (implying dx11) so were probably in for some good UE4 G3D if we’re lucky. Could be glorious indeed. As ACOdyssey and RDR2 have recently reminded me, Z3D would also look mighty fine for this title as well.
Little of fear have you. For with vorpX, the force is… hmmhmm… yes…
dellrifter22ParticipantThat’s because Much like the New Wolfenstein games, Doom is running on current OpenGL and Vulkan – neither of witch vorpX supports yet.
Only older OpenGL titles (up until the last Amnesia as I’ve heard) can work properly in 3D.
I tried Doom a couple years ago, and it was as you described, real eye-strain. Seems like there were more posts about this from earlier this year. Some claimed it’s better now, but I haven’t checked for myself. I have my doubts though unless we hear further from Ralf.
If nothing else, you could disable 3D and see if playing 2D is any fun.
dellrifter22ParticipantI too have gotten way beyond my moneys worth for the thousands of hours in vorpX games, and do hope Ralf is getting compensated for his continuous work. As you say, vorpX and it’s concept should be a must have for any VR enthusiast. Everyone needs to try it at least, very cool way to play games.
My fear with the subscription model is the potential for user falloff, but mostly that it becomes a harder sale for interested new comers. Especially in this age of everything wants a “gotcha” subscription it seems.
I think a donation pool is a great idea, as long as it is not used for leverage of feature or game requests – which Ralf may be afraid of. But a private donation option seems appreciative.
I also like to think that another way to repay for Ralf’s dedication is by contributing back to our small but growing community and spreading the word beyond. By sharing positive experiences and useful hints on the forums and other outlets like youtube/reddit, and utilizing the profile creation tools and cloud service he has provided us to expand and share the vorpX library, etc.
Thanks for the post Tubcaak. Always glad to see others enthusiastic about vorpX like myself. And it keeps getting better.
dellrifter22ParticipantWow, that would be great Ralf! Scalable HUD would make this much more functional. At the very least, a simple mod that can allow the HUD safe-zone lower than 90% as the in game settings permit. I tried looking for a value in the system.xml but couldn’t find one.
@ forlaunchcast: I think the Reverb is prime for vorpX. It’s comfy and convenient to wear, impressive high fidelity screens, and more importantly, a modest FOV great for FullVR. My Pimax8k has awesome FOV, but realistically only few vorpX games can handle that, so you end up seeing the screen edges way too much. My Reverb isn’t perfect (right eye has a few dead pixels and a touch of mura), but overall I’m enjoying the crisp stable image, with quite acceptable brightness and color.
If you get a chance, try running a resolution even higher than 2160p for any game, and you’ll discover how quality and clarity can still improve much beyond 4k. At 2880p, games begin to look as clear as looking at my 1080p monitor. ACOdyssey I’m running 16:9 5120×2880 (double my 2560×1440 monitor) and it looks fantastic. It comes at a framerate cost of course (averaging ~35fps which is my personal tolerance) that may not be acceptable to many, but the potential is there for future processing power to grasp.
I’ve never tested if TVs allow this, but most monitors can imitate higher than native resolutions. Using Nvidia Control Panel you can create and test virtually any res or ratio you want, and if your display passes, you can use that for games. Anyway, sorry for the wordy response, just wanted you to know that that RDR2 begins to look good at 2160p, but man it starts looking great at 2880 if you can manage.
@ calvincrack: I haven’t tried all Low yet myself, but it’s possible that low settings lean more on CPU and are not taking advantage of your monster GPU. See if a mix of medium to high settings do anything to even out performance.
It’s a lengthy watch but if you’re interested, Digital Foundry goes through all the settings explaining performance impact. At the 25:38 marker a chart is displayed for the settings equivalent to the Xbox One X, which may provide a good balance.
My take away was: reduce reflections, volumetric effects, and water physics. Medium SSAO, disable volumetric Ray, and dial back grass distance about half way.
At 3200×2880 my 2080ti is targeting 35-45 fps, which is my personal sweetspot. I may experience hiccups in a random open field at times, but I have not felt any severe impact entering Valentine town for example.
Head tracking at the moment seems to introduce unavoidable stutter reguardless of framerate, so best to use mouse rotation for turning. Hopefully experimenting a bit more with graphic settings can iron out your stability.
dellrifter22ParticipantI was able to solve the boxed in cursor by setting my monitor to the same resolution as the game first in Windows Display Settings. I still need to run the game in Windowed Boarderless to prevent squishing, but things look and work as intended now.
I’ve found 10:9 ratio 3200×2880 to be the perfect size to fill FullVR (zoom 0.90) in my HP Reverb without waste. It looks nearly HD monitor sharp while maintaining above 35fps with a mix of high and Ultra settings. It’s coming together nicely and making my investment toward 2080ti/Reverb worth it.
I know there are a few other Reverbers in here, so I’ve posted my setup here and on the cloud for anyone to try. Soon I’ll be ready to start playing for real, just gotta get it best it can be first 😎.
@ nieda : Did you get it to work? Are you able to load the game without vorpX? What are your system specs. Hopefully it’s not running out of ram or something.
@ testgrounds : The game doesn’t seem to have selectable aspect ratios, but you can create your own custom ones in Nvidia Control Panel and they will show up to choose from in game – if your TV supports them that is. If you want to play in a 4:3, you might try 1920×1440 for example. As mentioned above, try setting your TV to the same resolution or higher than the one you use in game, and it should solve your cursor problem.
@ matteo : Seems like it. With modest settings at least:
dellrifter22ParticipantForgot to mention, in case you have already saved an image zoom value to the previous profile, FullVR image zoom is meant to be at 0.90 for these settings to look correct.
So check the Image Settings page of delete key menu that image zoom reads 0.90, which should fill the entire screen view of HP Reverb.
dellrifter22ParticipantUnable to test the wmr fix atm, but this is good news. Thanks.
dellrifter22ParticipantMy trouble with the cursor is it gets restricted to a small area when I run windowed. I believe this is because I’m pushing a higher res than my monitor.
Fullscreen solves this problem, but as mentioned, choosing an aspect ratio other than my native 16:9 causes squishing. Windowed mode corrects the squish.
VorpX ratio setting can stretch it out to 16:9, but then that is defeating the purpose.
My next idea is to try setting my monitor to the desired ratio before launching the game. Unable to test for several more hours though.
I still haven’t tried any unusual ratios yet like 1:1, but maybe something like this could work better for glimpsing the Hud in fullvr.
