The only part of vorpX that is active without actually starting it is a small service. Without vorpX running it doesn’t do anything though, so I don’t see how that could be the issue.

However, since it’s the only thing that could potentially be related to an issue while starting Windows, please try to disable it. The service’s only purpose is to disable a virtual monitor added by Oculus Dash while vorpX is running. With recent nVidia driver versions doing that doesn’t seem to be strictly required anymore though, so it should be safe to disable the service.

    1. Open the start menu.
    2. Type services.
    3. Open the Services app.
    4. Scroll down to the vorpX service and double click it.
    5. Stop the service and set its start type to disabled.

Not really. If installing a Windows feature breaks your Windows, there obviously is something severely wrong, but I never heard of that before.

As a workaround you might be able to install DotNet 3.5, skip the restart, install vorpX, and then uninstall DotNet 3.5 again directly afterwards. It is not required anymore once vorpX is installed.

Try to install DotNet 3.5 manually before running the vorpX installer, maybe that makes a difference. Pretty much the same thing should happen automatically if DotNet 3.5 is not found, but maybe doing it manually beforehand helps.

At least that way you will be able to check whether installing DotNet or vorpX causes the issue.

DotNet 3.5 is only required for the web setup (to provide out of the box compatibility with Windows 7). Once vorpX is installed it should be safe to remove it if you don’t need it otherwise.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/install/dotnet-35-windows-10

Scroll down on that page a bit for manual install instructions.

Yes, the last PiTool might be from February, the last vorpX version that added official Pimax support however is from yesterday. Please check whether you are using vorpX 19.1.1. You can see that in the bottom left corner of the config app.

The desktop viewer works just fine on a 21:9 monitor if everything is setup according to the recommended settings.

Maybe you have some background programs running that interferes: check for virus scanners, any sort of GPU/CPU utility, video recording/streaming software, messengers and generally everything that can can show notifications in games.

Please also try to do a factory reset in the vorpX config app (trouble shooting page). Just in case.

Also make sure that your GPU drivers are up-to-date. According to the PiTool website relatively new drivers are required.

I think that’s all I can suggest regarding your issue.

The vorpX watcher checks for newly started programs. It is required for vorpX to hook into games. Disabling it makes only sense if you want to play native VR games without completely exiting vorpX. You can start games without the desktop viewer BTW.

With the most recent PiTool you should see an entry called “Brainwarp” in left pane of the PiTool window after clicking on “Settings”. If not, something is messed up with your Pimax setup.

You can download the latest PiTool here:

‘Turn on Smart Smoothing’ is a PiTool setting on the ‘Brainwarp’ page in PiTool. If you do not have this option, make sure to install the latest PiTool from the Pimax website.

    SteamVR:

    1. In the SteamVR window click on the version number (top left corner).
    2. Click on ‘Settings’
    3. In the left pane click on ‘Video’
    4. In the right pane check ‘Manual Override’ and then set the slider below to 50% .

Make sure to restart SteamVR after you set everything according to the official settings recommendations.

Some games do not allow mouse/kb and gamepad to be used together at the same time without issues. GTA V is one of them unfortunately. Since mouse movement is required for head tracking, gamepad functionality has to be mapped to mouse/kb. That’s why vorpX’s built in gamepad emulation exists in the first place.

Never change this setting if it is set to anything else than ‘None’ in an official profile. There always is a reason for that.

Please try to reset the profile to default in the config app. Sounds as if maybe you might have changed the X-Box controller override setting. This setting has to stay at the default value. It’s set to its default value for a reason.

I’ll also take a look at it, but GTA V has been tested explicitely with Pimax 5K just an hour before yesterday’s update release, so it’s quite unlikely that there is some general issue.

With such things there always is a bit of a chicken and egg problem. It’s a difficult decision to spend time on support for devices without a large enough userbase while there is other work to do that benefits more vorpX users.

I certainly see some potential for using Cybershoes with vorpX though. If they happen to ship their own software that can map shoe movement to WASD for example (not unlikely), you would even be able to use Cybershoes with vorpX right away.

With Leap Motion things are a bit more complicated. Supporting that in a meaningful way would require quite a bit of R&D work as we would have to figure out what makes sense in the context of vorpX (actually first if anything makes sense at all). The only answer I can give you at this point is that Leap Motion is a very interesting VR accessory for sure and certainly will be looked into if/when there starts to be broader demand.

I guess I just buy a copy and see what is possible.

Game streaming doesn’t exactly sound appealing to me either. However, even if Google’s new attempt proves to be more successful than all others before, I don’t really see it as a threat for some time to come. In the long run streaming might take over eventually, but certainly not for the next 10 years or so.

@ moarveer: Thanks for setting that straight. BTW: for Bioshock 2 the remaster might be the better choice despite the lower framerate. Tried to hunt down the crashes in the original for a week not too long ago without success. Quite odd considering how well the original Bioshock 1 works with DX9.

Official Pimax support has been added with yesterday’s vorpX update 19.1.1. Please make sure to check the vorpX help for recommeded PiTool/SteamVR settings and game resolution recommendations. Use these instead. The same recommendations as in the help can be found here. Just in case.

21:9 monitors are no problem. My main dev monitor happens also to be 21:9.

    vorpX 19.1.1 has been released.

This is a maintenance release that mainly adds support for Pimax 5K/8K headsets. Also some semi-critical bugs have been addressed and various profiles for popular games have been updated to support the most recent game versions.

    New/Changed:

    • Support for Pimax 5K/8K which require special treatment in various regards. Make sure to check the vorpX help for recommended PiTool/SteamVR settings.

    Bugfixes:

    • Gamepad emulation button ‘press & hold’ did not work for trigger axes.
    • DirectVR scanner FOV wasn’t changed correctly when switching play styles.
    • Launching games with vorpX shortcuts only worked for lowercase .exe names.
    • Control and config app could crash after updates on Windows 7.

    Game Profile Changes/Fixes:

    • Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor: profile wasn’t visible in config app
    • Watch Dogs: profile wasn’t visible in config app
    • World of WarCraft: graphics API was not set to correct value for WoW 8.1.5
    • Skyrim SE: pre-cached DirectVR FOV updated for latest game version
    • Fallout 4: pre-cached DirectVR FOV updated for latest game version
    • GTA V: HUD/map shader fixes, VSync wasn’t set correctly with latest game version

Does FC New Dawn also use Easy Anti Cheat?

I’d really love to add official support, but for FC5 EAC makes that a no-go currently unfortunately. Damn the ongoing microtransactions trend, even in single player games. Without microtransactions no single player game would ever need something like EAC.

That should be possible for most games, BUT.

The big ‘but’ is that some games don’t allow kb/mouse and gamepad to be used together natively or have problems like delayed input when switching between both.

For such cases vorpX has a built in gamepad emulation that allows you to map gamepad input to kb/mouse actions. You can find the acording setting (‘Overide X-Box Gamepad’) on the input page of the ingame menu. This gamepad emulation should work with most games that aren’t older than 10 years or so.

For official profiles ‘Overide X-Box Gamepad’ should already be set to the best state for the game (button mapping might not be perfect though), for user profiles you will have to check whether you need it or not.
