RalfKeymasterI’m not Satya and not at a PC ATM, but there should be an option to override ingame AA settings. When that is enabled, you can choose between 2x, 4x, 8x. There also is a Transparency AA setting which helps a lot with aliased trees, shrubs etc. in DX9 Skyrim.
Be aware though that forcing AA can cause issues in some games with vorpX (e.g. Bioshock running at 5fps), so it’s better to do that per game in the nVidia control panel instead of globally.
Another thing to consider is that MSAA costs a certain amount of performance. But since it would allow you to reduce resolution for comparable image quality, that would still almost certainly be a net win performance wise.
RalfKeymasterThat comes as a pleasant surprise, great find. The game crashed shortly after start through all alpha 2 versions with no apparent reason.
I’ll check whether it makes sense to add an official profile that can fully utilize the new vorpX features like auto-resolution etc.
RalfKeymasterIndeed, for Skyrim vorpX chooses a custom aspect ratio to enhance performance. Interesting hint though, thanks for heads-up. Probably a SkyUI issue, didn’t notice any issues with a custom aspect and the default UI.
RalfKeymastervorpX can set the best possible resolution automatically for many games. To take full advantage of this new feature add all resolutions listed in the “Custom Resolutions” section of the vorpX help (or the according sticky thread here in the “General” forum) to your graphics driver and after doing so select a preferred graphics quality on the “Direct VR” page of the vorpX ingame menu.
For games that do not support this new feature 1600×1200 or 1920×1440 are good resolutions when using vorpX. In such a case you can set the resolution either before you run the game with vorpX or while you do so.
If you want to set the desktop to a 4:3 res, you can do that in the Windows options.
RalfKeymaster1920×1440 is handled by the auto-resolution feature. No need to disable the feature if you want to run games with auto resolution support in that res.
RalfKeymasterI really don’t want to sound edgy, like said above several times, that is either handled by the new Direct VR settings optimizer when you start a game OR you can tweak games manually in case the results the optimizer provides are not what you have in mind. Optimizing manually means that you can adjust the FOV in ini-files, the registry or whereever a game stores its settings.
However, the best thing for you to do is probably letting vorpX handle that by using the auto FOV feature, selecting the “Immersive Screen Mode” and than cranking up the FOV as much as possible on the Direct VR page (+20) if the default value chosen by vorpX is not what you prefer. Hope that clarifies this.
RalfKeymasterAs in many newer games, shadows cannot be handled fully correct in G3D mode in Witcher 3, although vorpX does a better job in this particular case than the nVidia stereo driver, I might add.
The best way to deal with that is either not overdoing it with the 3D-Strength, the default 1.0 should look OK in most situations, or alternatively disabling shadows in the vorpX menu (“Image” page). Not sure if all shadow shaders where catched when doing the profile, the game is huge, but most should be handled.
RalfKeymasterYou can run games at any resolution with vorpX, the higher the resolution the better the image quality.
Since the latest version that is particularly easy as for many supported games vorpX can now set an optimized resolution based on a preferred quality you choose.
Keep an eye on performance though when you raise the resolution (ALT+F), games ideally should not dip below 45fps for good VR gaming.
RalfKeymasterMenus:
In quite a few games vorpX can scale the HUD/menus, but if that isn’t case, you can always use the EdgePeek function. Its purpose is to zoom out the image tempoarily to be able to navigate otherwise hard to use menus. Also useful for watching cutscenes.
EdgePeek can be activated via: mouse wheel click, right gamepad thumbstick click or the right grip button on Oculus Touch/Steam VR controllers.
You can find other useful keyboard shortcuts on the “Key Bindings” page of the config app.
Resolutions:
Also depends on the game: since the latest update vorpX can automatically set an optimized resolution in many supported games. To take full advantage of this new feature check the “Custom Resolutions” section in the vorpX help and after adding the resolutions listed there to your graphics driver select a preferred quality in the vorpX menu (“Direct VR” page). Always keep an eye on your framerate though (ALT+F). Games should not dip below 45fps often.
For games that do not support this auto resolution feature 1600×1200 or 1920×1440 are good choices for vorpX.
RalfKeymasterAs said above, such a feature will not be introduced. Thanks for your understanding. I’ll get back to you when I’m back at work in this specific case.
If you use heavily modded games, the best course of action in case of issues is to remove any mods and check whether the issue still occurs without mods. I understand that particularly for Skyrim that doesn’t sound great from a user’s perspective, but it’s simply impossible to consider all the mods out there.
Only issues that occur after removing all mods or issues that can be clearly assigned to a specific, heavily used mod, can be considered actual issues. You probably can’t imagine how much time went into this game alone, there has to be some limit regarding what can be done for a single title, even in case of Skyrim.
RalfKeymasterI’m out of town currently. I get back to you via mail as soon as I’m at work again. Normally there is no way to go back to earlier versions and this will not be introduced. Thanks for your patience.
The chance that your issue is related to the latest update is extremely slim though. Not a single report that sounds even remotely like yours. That is next to impossible for Skyrim if there was a general vorpX issue causing a problem like yours.
RalfKeymasterAll local profiles are stored in a database:
C:\ProgramData\Animation Labs\vorpX\Profiles.vpdIt is not overwritten normally when you reinstall, just updated, but a backup still can’t hurt, of course.
Your actual issue sounds a lot like a virus scanner problem. Try to exclude the vorpX program folder from scanning: C:\Program Files (x86)\Animation Labs\vorpX.

RalfKeymasterI’ll take a look at that, but TBH don’t have any explanation why your custom commandline.txt resolution would disable vertical head tracking. The new system in vorpX goes up to 1680p, maybe that would be OK too? It’s not too far away from the resolution you are using now.
If this is actually caused by vorpX (which would be a quite mysterious glitch), it will be addressed. Otherwise I hope it’s understandable that unfortunately there is no way to consider and test every potential custom tweak for a game.

RalfKeymasterNo need to use commandline.txt for resolution tweaking anymore. vorpX now can apply an optimized resolution for the game based on a quality preset that you can choose on the Direct VR page of the ingame menu.
To make this work with games that support this new feature as good as possible make sure to add all custom resolutions listed in the according help section (or the custom resolution sticky thread here in the forum).
RalfKeymasterFor some reason your post was classified as spam by the forum software after editing it. Not sure why, looks perfectly normal to me. Happens from time to time, it’s visible again now.
