RalfKeymasterYes and yes, I have the Steam version of Bioshock Infifinite, and tests are also done on Radeons (no Crossfire though). The 30secs. crash unfortunately seems to be totally unrelated to the graphics cards vendor, so far there is absolutely no pattern visible that might reveal who is and who is not affected. This really is a tough issue to reproduce.
RalfKeymasterHi Foxhound,
The safest settings display wise are “Use system settings” in vorpX and clone mode in the Windows display properties, combined with the Rifts default screen resolution of 1280×800 in game. Other settings might or might not work correctly, depending on graphics card, driver settings etc. So it’s best to use the ‘safe settings’ first, and experiment from there.
If the images still do not line up with these settings, you should try to lower the IPD a few millimeters, which might also be the cause of the issue.
Hope that helps.
RalfKeymasterThe first update (due in a week or so) will have quite a few changes regarding the startup process. This should help with many (hopefully most) Steam/VAC related crashes on game start.
RalfKeymasterHi,
That sounds strange. Did you try the simple things that come to mind first when such things happen? Re-booting Windows and such? A new vorpX version can’t be the cause, since there was no update so far. You could try to uninstall and then reinstall vorpX to make sure the installation is intact.
Both games are currently not supported currently, btw. But good to hear that they seem to work in unsupported mode.
RalfKeymaster@ t3f: Just to be sure: Did you try to disable Crossfire? If not, that might be worth a try.
@ youngneil : Unlikely. Display configuration might have an influence though, but I already tried all possible combinations. Still unable to reproduce the issue on any machine. Maybe someone of you should send me his PC… ;)
RalfKeymasterHi guys,
Could someone with the 30secs. crash monitor the CPU/GPU memory consumption before the crash happens? Especially GPU memory would be of interest.
For the CPU the taskmanger is enough. For graphics cards a tool is needed. nVidia users can use the “Nvidia Inspector” which has a nice graphical monitoring with memory monitoring. For ATI/AMD GPU-Z might be worth a try.
RalfKeymasterUpdates are issued automatically. You don’t have to look for them.
Documentation clearly is an issue right now, no doubt about that. That will improve over time.
RalfKeymasterMore games will be added over time, of course. Most updates will contain fixes, enhancements and new game profiles. Updates are delivered automatically btw., so you will always have the most current game profiles.
RalfKeymasterHi kampfratte,
Sounds like an issue while reading in the Oculus Profile. Try to delete the c:\Users\myuser\AppData\Local\Oculus folder. The config app isn’t the important one btw. Almost all settings can be altered in-game.
Regarding you original issue: See the Aspect Ratio section in the How to To Get the Most out of vorpX – Sticky. It has the solution.
Hope that helps.
RalfKeymasterWhen using GPU Scaling make sure to set it to “Fullscreen” (that’s what it called for nVidia cards). If you still have problems after that disable GPU scaling (which is the default after installing a graphics driver) and stick to the standard 1280×800 in-game resolution for the Rift.
When you can’t bring the images together even with this setup, you might have chosen an incorrect IPD. You can calibrate your IPD either ingame with the vorpX calibration fuction (display page of the menu) or with the Oculus Config Utility.
Also make sure to choose the default display mode “Rift” in the in-game menu, not “Rift SBS”. The latter is meant for watching 3D-movies not for games.
RalfKeymasterTry to look around while you press the button. You should be able to look around the screen this way. Releasing the button switches back to a centered view.

RalfKeymasterYou could try to calibrate the Rifts headtracker from within the Oculus Config Utilty (can be started from the vorpX Config). This should reduce drift.
RalfKeymasterIt allows you to look around the screen. This is useful for seeing maps, health bars etc. in corners, which are often hidden in the Rift.
RalfKeymasterYou could try to create a desktop shortcut (right click the vorpX tray icon, select ‘Create Desktop Shortcut’, browse to the game’s main .exe) and see whether that helps.
A few games need special treatment to work with vorpX though, those only work when a profile is available. So you might be out of look here, at least until the game is supported.
RalfKeymasterSo far we didn’t receive any reports of vorpX being detected as cheat, neither during the closed beta, nor after the public beta release. I can’t fully guarantee this though, so basically you do this on your risk at the moment.
Now that vorpX is out we will contact Punkbuster, Steam etc. again to get vorpX officially whitelisted, which wasn’t possible until now. Until that happens, the above answer unfortunately is the best I can give you.
Generally I’d say that there are so many image enhancement and other DX-hooks out there that aren’t actually cheats that Punkbuster and others would have a hard time if they classified all of these as cheating. But as said above, no guarantees.
Using a Rift in BF3 multiplayer is more a handicap than a cheat btw.. That at least is my experience based on a short test. ;)
