RalfKeymasterIf you’re interested in a first inpression, head over to reddit:
Bottom line: It’s worth every penny.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. :)
RalfKeymasterI didn’t take it personally, no worries. :)
RalfKeymasterHi Valez,
Im sorry to see that happen. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do from here, since the purchase process is completely out of my control. Did you send a mail to mycommerces’s support? Maybe they can be of more help than I can.
If by chance you are from Germany or at least somewhere in Europe, we should be able to work something out. In this case just send me a mail to support |at| vorpx com and we discuss this further.
RalfKeymaster@ Azuretruth : You can ignore that, it’s a false alarm caused by the copy protection. Unlike most other AV-companies, Avira unfortunately requires us to re-submit every single version for whitelisting again, which takes some time. The alternative here was to either miss our release date or live with these false positives for a few days.
You can safely ignore any virus warning. if in doubt, just upload vorpX.dll to virustotal.com, which will show you that the vast majority of AV-scanners are able to detect vorpX correctly as totally legit software.
@golem : glad you could sort that out. :)
RalfKeymaster@ golem: Please make sure that vorpX is not blocked from the internet by your firewall and/or virus scanner/security software. That might be the problem.
If you are sure, that everything is fine in this regard, please send a mail to support |at| vorpx com
@ nedo: You’ll receive your registration as soon as possible. :)
RalfKeymasterA decent e-mail notification system is something that is still missing here, sorry. Good idea though to use this thread. I will answer to it again when vorpX is out, so you’ll at least be notified this way.
RalfKeymaster@ yautja_cetanu : Let me just reiterate what I always said: If you are waiting for the 110% perfect solution, wait for native titles. Only those will be specifically designed for VR. Simple as that. Although I’m not quite sure whether I understand why you ordered a devkit then. ;)
If on the other hand you want to *have fun* with a multitude of games not specifically made for VR, and you want to have this fun right now, without rather academic comparisons to a theoretically perfect game that isn’t even announced yet, vorpX offers plenty of fun for you. That’s the promise of vorpX, nothing more, nothing less.
RalfKeymaster@ grix: payment is handled by an international digital distribution service. And just to clarify this: if there would be one price for all, it would have to be the higher one, so nothing to gain here. Sorry. :)
RalfKeymasterHeadtracking is supported for almost everything, including BF3 of course. Geometry 3D for DX11 titles isn’t 100% there yet, but that will change, *maybe* even before the public beta release, but most likely some time later.
Unless you have a high end rig, BF3 is one the titles where the main advantage of the Z-Buffer mode (SPEED!) outweighs its disadvantages by far anyway.
On a sidenote: I know that people have different opinions about this, and there’s nothing wrong with that, of course. Always beware of people who try to sell their opinions as truth. But as far as I’m concerned, constant 60fps are *much* more important than the kind of stereoscopy. I even play some titles with perfectly working Geometry 3D in Z-Buffer mode because of this.
Stereoscopy adds to the immersion, but it’s not the most important thing. Don’t believe me? Just close one eye and see whether you are still immersed in the real world or not. ;) The great thing about VR is being able to move and act inside the virtual world as naturally as possible. That is what really sets the Rift apart from playing games on a monitor, and that is what makes the experience so special. The kind of stereoscopy is just a (small) part of the equation.
RalfKeymaster>> cool so it includes a controller mapper too?
Yep, very nice for playing titles without gamepad support. No need for extra software, and configurable directly in the game. Btw: you can also use the Rift tracker for simulating gamepad axis movement, which can give you headtracking in games without mouselook (usually driving games and such). Not 100% perfect in some cases, depending on the way a game handles gamepad input, but clearly better than nothing.
>> but I think you said you have an option to make the “circles” bigger or
>> smaller too which will be nice. That is the case. You can scale the circles all the way up until they touch the screen edges. The best setting though is the smallest size that does not let you see the circles in the Rift. So just don’t crank it up, thinking bigger is always better. ;) The optimal size is very dependent on individual eyesight.
These are just two of the many smaller and bigger things that make vorpX more than just a 3d-driver. It really is specifically geared towards VR in many things.
RalfKeymasterQuite simple: the reason for this are the considerably lower sales taxes in many parts of the US. This makes it possible to sell slightly cheaper over there. If you live elsewhere, your local tax rate applies, regardless of the currency you pay something in. So unfortunately that wouldn’t change anything.
RalfKeymasterA profile for X3 (demo version) was just added :) . Provided that there aren’t huge differences between the demo and the final game, it should work just fine.
RalfKeymasterIn general, yes. There might be (and are) cases though where someone would want to adjust more than that, so that is possible too. But not mandatory, of course. Usually it’s just plug and play.
RalfKeymasterYes. You can customize everything that is needed to make vorpX’s output a perfect fit for your individual eyesight (and in your case lensmod). Standard settings do work great for most people, but if needed, there are enough advanced tweaking options to spend half a day experimenting with them. ;)
RalfKeymasterYes, using a X-Box 360 gamepad is possible. Even for games that don’t have gamepad support. A good chunk of time went into this, since I think playing with a gamepad helps to improve immersion.
How many vorpX features you want to map to the gamepad is your choice, so I would say it’s usually possible to find a good mapping for every game.
