In reply to: Arma 3 – Help needed

There is a bug currently that prevents Arma 3 from working correctly. Will be fixed soon. For a temporary workaround please check this post: https://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/how-to-setup-arma3-and-the-dk2/#post-17814

Heya, I’ll try it later and let you know~
But whether 2D/3D and with FOV change wasn’t really my concern with VorpX – the main problems are that:
1st. VorpX fucks up the main menu big time
2nd. VorpX fucks up the mouse cursor (meaning you have to use TAB and arrow keys to navigate the Arma3 menu)
3rd. VorpX zooms in quite a bit (quite a huge bit – in every game)

But like I said, I’ll try it with your exact settings later and report back :)

BentoFox can u try this out and tell me if it’s the same result:
    – change detectedAdapterId=0 to detectedAdapterId=1; in the congif game folder
    – change the Fov in the Profil Config to
    fovTop=3.1500001;
    fovLeft=5.5999999;

(with this settings u got the max fov of 180)
    – start vorpX (version 0.7.1.0)
    – start opentrack for dk 2 (btw got someone the link for the newest versions)
    – in Opentrack menu set the Main Tracker to RIFT and the Game Protocol to FREETRACK 2.0
    – then start it with the button below
    – set the rift as ur primary monitor
    – start arma3 via steam (for me its different starting it up via steam or desktop shortcut) btw its really hard to find all the buttons when u got the cosseye effect but its possible
    – now arma3 launches with vorpX and opentrack for independent headtracking
    – change the resolution to 1920×1080 (u can change it permanently in the profil config)
    – do some other changes in the vorpX ingame menu

this is the way how i play arma3 with vorpX and opentrack… it’s 2D…
i dont know why, but the hands and the gun don’t look that big today so i’m asking if anyone can try this out…
    hope this helped :)

I found out how to use Arma3 with the DK2 temporarily … :)

    – DISABLE VorpX (pause watcher or close the software)
    – Run OpenTrack
    – Set Arma3 to 948×1080 Pixels
    – Make Rift Primary Monitor
    – Restart Arma3

… and you’re able to play Arma 3
    – without EXTREME ZOOM from VorpX
    – with a working mouse cursor (VorpX seems to fuck up mouse controls in 2/5 games I’ve tried)
    – without messed up HUD/GUI
    :D
obviously you won’t have the 3D effect in the game then, it’ll be 2D … but with VorpX that doesn’t currently work either anyway, so we might just as well play the game without the bugs VorpX currently causes in Arma3

    Hope it helps anyone :)

So Opentrack and VorpX don’t like each other ^^
For your arma experience: – 3d still doesn’t work with arma
    – get opentrack working on arma
    – go to ur arma setups and set the fov to 180
    – get ur ingame menus closer to the middle that u
are able to see all of them
    – ignore it that ur hands look like the ones from
    HULK

Playing with independent headtracking in arma is fun…. still in 2D
for now this is the only way to play arma via Oculus Rift

if u find another one…. pls let me know :)

so i got the dk2 working with arma3
it’s only 2D but it is ok :)
i set the fov to 100 and it worked fine
but than i installed opentrack for dk2 (independent head tracking works also good)
    but than the fov changed….
its way to close… even when i set the fov to 180 its still too close….
any of u got an idea how to fix that?

Holy shit Ralf, renaming the .exe to ArmA2.exe totally works!

I have only spent a couple of minutes in the game (crashing into the ground, mainly) and there is clearly a lot of tweaking to be done – but Opentrack is reading head movement and vorpX is giving not only stereoscopic view, but geometry mode.

Please note: for Opentrack to work, you have to set:

Options -> Game Options -> Freelook Interaction: Default On

Things I need to sort out first:

Headtracking sideways is way too oversensitive – look 90 degrees left or right and the view shifts almost 180 degrees to look behind. Up and down appears to be restricted so not really a problem at first sight.

Haven’t toyed with the vorpX settings yet, I’m sure the view can be better.

Also need to map the controls of my T Flight HOTAS X, but that’s obviously unrelated, just including it for completeness. And of course if someone else wants to help…

That’s it for now – will spend more time playing with the settings but wanted to post ASAP as this is in the Steam sale. Others might want to invest less than £4 and help the community get yet another vorpX (and Opentrack) enabled experience.

    Thank you once again Ralf!

Arma engine based games need a profile to hook, for Take On Helicopters there is none currently.

AFAIK the game is Arma II based, you could try to rename the .exe to arma2.exe or arma2oa.exe to trick vorpX into believing it is a known game. There are no guarantees that this will work, but it’s worth a try.

Just be aware that most game specific fixes will not be available even if this trick basically works.

    tnx for the quick reply.

mouse middle-click was the saver and I could access the menu and join a dayz epoch game. I moved a little in my base, didn t even try to get outside, epoch world is a dangerous place:P
well, the road is long ahead. yes, it works. as for the first impressions…
quite a delay in head movements but not stutter. I ve tried different quality settings on 1980×1080, aswell as vorpx HT sensibility without big improvements.
the stereoscopic effect is more visible as a cutboard effect, not a real 3D. here, arma2 graphics are the cause I think. But what was immediately noticeable, was a disturbing white edge to the objects, where stereo separation was stronger.
Head movements/tracking should definitely work as a free look override toggle and get separated from the mouse tracking
as said, these are only couple of first impressions of a fresk dk2 owner, have to try many other games to get a more serious impression.
    many thanks.

If the tilt axis is inverted for head tracking you are probably playing with inverted mouse. You can counteract this my inverting the headtracking Y-axis on the input page of the the vorpX ingame menu (press [DEL] to access it).

To see the menu in ARMA 2 (and other games), you can use vorpX’s EdgePeek feature (click or press and hold the middle mouse button).

BTW: In case you haven’t done so already, please make sure to check the vorpX quick reference and the “How to get the most out of vorpX” guide in the documentation. They explain EdgePeek and quite a few more useful things.

    well, tnx for your reply.

I just bought the vorpx and it doesn t work as it should. I tried all possible monitor setups, all settings, same result: arma2oa starts, I m getting image in the DK2 but the rotate head tracking doesn t work at all, can t see the menu and the tilt axis is inverted.

maybe I m doing something wrong but for $49.59 well…

    win7 64bit, i5-2500k, 16GB ram, sapphire 7950 boost.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    I almost got it working… Windows 7
I didn’t change my monitor setting at all. (in Arma3.cfg)
I did change my FOV but that shouldn’t matter to get it going.

With Rift in extended monitor mode windows settting say it is monitor (2)

If you put Arma3 in windows mode (windowed)
    C:\User\[user name]\Documents\Arma 3\Arma3.cfg <-file

    Change detectedAdapterId=0;
    to detectedAdapterId=1; <- monitor (2)

this will put the Arma 3 in Oculus mode but change the detectedAdapterId back to 0
and runs in the monitor 1 window in Oculus mode
(if you move it to the Oculus in window mode it works, kinda, not very good)
to get around the menu CLICK and HOLD DOWN THE MIDDLE MOUSE BUTTON / WHEEL BUTTON HOLD and click the left like normal.

I want it FULL SCREEN… Help

If you want to get a sharper super sampled image and smoother lines you can create a custom resolution for the rift display of 2650×1440 @75hz. In the nvidia control panel it’s under change resolution > customize > create custom resolution (not sure how for other cards) then edit the config file of the game to render at 2650×1440 or select it if available in game and launch it with the rift as primary display. Tested it for Skyrim, MW3 and Arma 2 with vorpx and it also works for those few games with native DK2 support like Elite Dangerous & live for speed. It also has the added benefit of bringing the menus more in view for some games.
