I’m having 2 issues with trying to run arma 3 with a valve index and vorpx.
The first issue is that in full VR mode the whole screen moves with my head and I have to turn to cinema mode to make that stop, trackIR is on in the settings and headtracking is also on in vorpx but it isn’t working at all for full VR.
Second issue is that as soon as I launch a mission in arma with vorpx running it locks up the game and I can’t play. If I run arma 3 with vorpx not running I have 0 issues so I know it’s a vorpx thing.
I have tried searching the forums and used the suggestions to fix this but I’m pretty frustrated at this point.

Duh. That’s a lot of questions.

vorpX can change settings for about 200 games, and yes, it creates backups which you can restore. They are also restored all at once when you uninstall vorpX or do a factory reset.

The resolution a game runs with is one of the things covered by auto settings. You basically choose a preset and then vorpX figures out an according resolution and aspect ratio, which may vary based on various factors, e.g. whether you play a game in cinema or FullVr mode.

Why does that require a game restart sometimes? vorpX usually changes the config files of games, but games only apply these changes when they read these config files, which happens on launch. Since some of these config changes (typically FOV and resolution) depend on factors vorpX can only know 100% for sure while a game is running, it’s safer to apply them from ‘inside’ the game instead of taking potentially wrong guesses.

If no restart is required (e.g. when the FOV is adjusted in realtime by the DirectVR memory scanner instead of with an .ini change), then, yes, vorpX is intelligent enough to know that.

Head rotation is usually bound to body rotation. There are exceptions though (e.g. GTA V, RDR 2, Cyberpunk, Arma III). These exceptions are fairly rare though.

Weapons: There is a feature that allows you to do that, but it’s only available for a fairly small number of games currently.

Re-authorization is required when you make significant changes to your PC, that’s not an issue though.

If you can’t find a user profile on the cloud profiles page of the vorpX config app, you can try to make your own by copying another UE4 profile and then assigning the game’s .exe to the copied profile.

For more detailed instructions check the ‘User Profiles’ section in the vorpX help. It also lists a bunch of UE4 profiles that you can try as a base profile.

Hi Ralf, I have tried these UE4 profiles (Conarium, The Turing Test, Get Even, Vampyr) but in none of them I have achieved any 3D effect, neither with G3D nor with Z3D. Is it possible that with this game the 3D mode cannot be activated?

On the other hand I have been testing the VorpX profile for the Arma 3 and it is very successful.
I like that you can play with the head separated from the weapon, but it would be even better if you put the option to assign the movement of the touch controller (pitch / yaw) to the weapon and it would be perfect. I have tried it with the auto_oculus_touch program and it works perfect but this program does not work from SteamVR.
In addition, this configuration would be useful for those who play FPS games in Immersive Screen mode and it is not convenient for them to use the head or the gamepad to move the weapon, and do not want to use the mouse.

It would also be perfect if you left free decision of assigning buttons and axes to the touch controllers, since for example I need to assign the movement keys (wasd) to the thumb pads of both touch at the same time, but you only allow me to assign it or to the right or to the left. Wouldn’t it be easier to leave free assignment of axes and buttons to any remote control and to adapt it to any configuration?

By the way congratulations on the development on the VorpX, very good job.
    Thanks a lot.

ArmA also relies on moving a mouse and it’s the one of the most realistic tactical game of the history. Ready or Not it’s the sucessor of Swat 4, the best police tactical game. Probe it and tell me if is not realistic, are exact real police tactics.
In VR the games near of “Ready or Not” are Onward and Virtual WarFighter. Both are tactical and realistic FPS. Maybe Contractor VR but is in the level of Zero Caliber, very good FPS but not tactical and realistic.

Yes but ArmA was released when there was no Virtual Reality, my point is that every FPS today that doesn’t support VR is less realistic that if there was VR support.
Moving a mouse as today is NOT realistic compared to what you have today, where you can replicate a 1:1 model and aim the way it is actually designed.

And yes I can prove it easily, here are examples of new ways of trainings when different police departments understood that VR is closest way to simulate realism>

One thing is to enjoy 2D graphics on what we can both agree is fotometry and how real it looks, but is still a 2d image, and the real police is not shooting with a mouse.
So the real training is to simulate the entire situation in Virtual Alternate Reality that creates it on real scale and only at that point the police can practice and shooting not with a mouse of course.

But of course I would love to have the same quality level on VR, do not get me wrong, my point is that for realism reasons the approace is to allow the player to move inside that simulation the same way as in real life.
Maybe to study a situation without needing the same level of interaction it can be used a 2d Game as ArmA, but if you want to have a real simulation for real movements, then VR is the best choice today.

A game looking for realism but relies on moving a mouse, hmmm is not the best already.
There is already a thread in their forums asking for VR support.

Check Zero Caliber that is still being developed but it is already a very good one with Single Player campaign missions. They just released 2 very good and complex maps to play.
The AI is still being adjusted but the game is very good one and the weapons are incredible !!!
You have a full armory to unlock and get better.

Sorry for my wording last night first off I was frustrated at my inability to solve this.
    I will recheck resolutions.
I am for sure full screen.
It had been running seemlessly for some time… Few Months. Once in a great while if I took a break long enough for WMD to go to sleep I would comeback and have to reboot. But know I have to reboot on fresh starts 2-3 times to get it to work. There’s got to be a confict somewhere in my system that I cannot find.
Basically I’ve made no setting changes and this issue has evolved. Arma is a glitchy creature itself was just hoping someone else has experienced this.
Again apologies for my impatience and poor choice of words.

Cursor won’t reach lower menu commands in game. Also whenthis occurs mouse is not aligned with on screen display. A fresh reboot will solve. But have to open game on a fresh reboot everytime. So after a break etc. Need a fresh reboot. Did this some time ago but now has come back and I don’t recall a solution.

Decoupling walk and look is out of vorpX’s scope usually. That requires more in-depth per game hacking/modding than vorpX normally does as it needs to fundamentally change gameplay mechanics. Even DirectVR memory scanner headtracking can’t do that usually.

There are a few exceptions from the rule, either when games support decoupled aim themselves like Arma III or when I code game specific mods (GTA V, RDR 2), but for Halo none of these options apply.

I’d still be interested in checking whether what you did might be a useful addition to vorpX, even without decoupled aim. Would be great if you could send me both your vorpX settings for the game (you can drag them from the local profiles list in the config to the desktop) as well as your OpenVR Input emulator setup (no idea where that is stored though) to support at vorpx com. Didn’t fully get what exactly you did, being able to use your setup myself would help me understand it better.

You are very welcome, I recently done the mission where Arthur & Lenny get drunk at the saloon in Valentine, it is very cool & trippy in VR with the room going all bendy & warped as you get drunk, i walked in on Lenny getting it on with female Lenny, escaped the law & am now taking a slow walk back to Valentine where my horse Midknight is.

In the flat version of the game i would have just run there as fast as possible but in VR it is so immersive that sometimes i just can’t help but take a slow walk through the world.

The next part of this post contained inside the —‘s is my attempt to describe how even a simple slow walk to Valentine is in VR to try to help people get a sense of what it is like:

I’m walking down a dirt road surrounded by forest, birds crowing in my right ear, chirping in my left, the buzz of some flying insect buzzing around my head, crunching footsteps, a steam train chugging along somewhere in the distance & the low music track playing behind it all,

a couple of buffalo & deer running over the hills up ahead, horses coming down the road, guy being taken to jail in a caged wagon by two lawmen, “stay back from the wagon sir, we’re transporting a fugitive” one of them says as they ride on by, i let them be as i’m enjoying my walk,

i notice the bright coloured plants scattered here & there, reds, purples, yellows, whites, i hear a weird moaning sound to my right, i turn & see an American bison up the hill a bit, i get out the binoculars for a better view, lots of muscle on that (animals are much bigger in VR, sense of scale is great), guy rides right in front of my view & says something about me not being right in the head, i give him a polite greeting & compliment him on his nice looking horse, he goes on his way, i continue walking,

i scare a bird out of the long grass just to my left which makes me jump as it takes flight, no music now just the buzzing of insects, the chirping of birds & the crunching of footsteps, i see smoke to the right in the distance, not going there, spot a group of 5 deer having a munch not too far away, 1 of the deer looks me right in the binoculars as i am looking at them with eyes that seem to say ‘what you looking at?’, i continue on-wards,
two guys on horses, one pulls out a rifle & says something as they go by, i resist the urge to shoot him in the face & continue, i come to a crossroad with a wooden sign, i follow the arrow pointing to Valentine, i see a lonely dead looking tree a little past the crossroad, spooky looking,

i spot a berry bush, what could they be, red raspberry, yummy, pick a couple of nearby yarrow too then continue, train track just to the left of the road, rocky hills in the distance, open grassland with some rocky hills to the right, couple of deer watching me for any sign that i’m a threat, they turn & slowly amble away, snowy covered mountains coming into view, path splits with a wooden sign pointing toward Valentine, i obey the sign,

path crosses over the train tracks, man rides by moaning about something, wagon rides by, two guys out front & two guys inside, a beautiful white & a black horse doing the work of pulling them, more traffic now, getting closer to Valentine,

spot a crow on a rock, use binoculars for a good view, cool colour, mix of black & blue, flies off, path crosses back over the tracks, can clearly see Valentine now, hear an owl, check my platinum pocket watch, 16:05, guy on horse says”a whole lotta ugly business here” as he rides past some blood & human body parts,

the blood trail leads down a little slope past a tree to where there is part of a human corpse suspended from beneath the rail bridge, writing on the rocks near the corpse reads “Look on my works”, there is a human head stuck to a wooden pillar of the rail bridge by knife with something in its mouth, i take it out, the head falls to the ground, part of a map, i go back up the slope & continue toward Valentine,

i cross the tracks into Valentine, i can hear a telephone ringing coming from inside the train station, can almost smell the sheep, 2 guys having a smoke say hello as i walk by,
guy leaning against a post says “that queasy feeling you been having is cause there is so many O’Driscols about”, think i’m gonna punch this guy, “i’ve only gotta click my fingers & this town will string you up & call it justice” he says, he walks towards me saying “you want me to set you straight”, he pushes me, i say “look at you, a coward trying to play it tough,” “make yourself scarce” he says, i punch him in the face, knock him down, he gets up “damn it to hell” he whinges as he pushes me again, we trade several blows, i see his face getting bloodier up as i connect with punch after punch, i knock him down, he gets up, he knocks me down, i get up, we continue beating on each other, i land a left hook that knocks him out cold,

getting darker now, i check the time, 20:35, sound of a steam train whistle blowing, a couple of horses hitched & people standing, sitting, walking, chatting as i walk by houses that are lit up with flickering light from their various sources, Keane’s saloon door is open, tempting me to go in for a drink but no! i must be reunited with my Midknight (word of warning, you can become attached to your horse in VR, they are just so fn cool looking),
i turn onto the main street, the newspaper boy still trying to sell his paper at this time, the sheriff standing having a smoke in front of his office, i look further down the road & there she is, my Midknight, i sprint towards her as people come out of the saloon & others try to enter which ends up making one poor fella fall down the stairs & get covered in mud, “damn” he says as he gets up, a drunk guy gets on his horse as he says the place is full of cheats which his mate on another horse agrees with as they ride away, i watch the guy who fell down the stairs walk away & round the corner at the end of the street, walking as if he had defecated in his drawers,

i turn around, & look at my magnificent Midknight, about 2-3 heads higher than me, big beautiful beast, i pat her then go into the saloon for a drink to celebrate, lots of people in here, piano music playing a nice happy fast tune, barman talks about some lowlifes & about someone being pushed, maybe the guy that fell down the stairs, i order a beer & have a swig while looking at the pictures behind the bar,

i finish my beer then head outside & jump on Midknight & hitch her just over the road at the hotel as i need a bath & a room for some sleep, guy behind the desk remembers me from when i saved Karen, doesn’t want trouble, i pay for a bath, walking down the hall to the bath i hear some guy moaning, must be that guy who i walked in on sitting on the toilet when i was here before, poor guys pipes must be clogged,

got some help with my bath from a nice woman, told her i used to share baths with my dog copper, feeling nice & clean, i pay for a room, next door to the guy with the clogged pipes, & i get some sleep.

I’m not a great story teller by any stretch of the imagination but i hope i have managed to give a sense of just how immersive even something as simple as a slow walk back to Valentine can be in VR.

Info about what i’m using to play it: AMD Ryzen 3600 & RX 5700 XT using Oculus Rift S, my graphics settings i put to the highest resolution i can go to which is 1920 x 1080 & put the resolution scale as high as i could go without losing too much fps, TAA on high & TAA sharpness really high on the slide bar, for other settings i just put the main setting on ultra then lowered them one by one till i found my optimal performance + graphics.

well, we are not all sommeliers of virtual reality, I believe that 75% of the “fantastic” judgment refers to the game itself. Then you know, vorpx has its limits. When I use it I don’t look at trifles, such as the imperfect depth of the gun with respect to the floor. Of course it doesn’t perform as well as with Bioshock infinite, but it remains one of the experiences with Vorpx! IMO

What i noticed a couple days ago in r/OculusQuest in a post about VorpX was that there were much more upvotes and positivity than in the recent past. Either the public opinion is beginning to change for the better, or most of the whiners and haters have “left the building”.

While you could be right about reddit whiners and haters could have left the building, reddit-upvotes still mean shit, there are so many useless posts and submissions, getting upvoted with about hundreds to thousands of upvotes and i guess not even the upvoters know why the fu** they actually upvoted it, on the other hand there are really great posts and submissions and they just not attract the right people or have other bad luck not to get upvoted as much.

At the end reddit´s whole voting- and karma system is useless crap, as every voting system who is allowing negative downvotes, especially in times like this, where people vote down on you coz they have a bad day or for any other stupid reason they may have.

I’m not going to claim that my settings are perfectly correct, but these are what I settled on after one night of playing, that feel good to me:

    – first load into game, open vorpX delete menu, go to directVR page and turn off all game changing settings there. click okay and save. (forgive me please Ralf :) )
    – I set a 4:3 resolution 1920 x 1440 , set to normal in ArmA3 menu, no stretched. Apply it and exit the game.
    – Next, for FOV edit, open *USERNAME*.Arma3Profile found in C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Arma 3
    – edit these two values to look like this:

    fovTop=1.56;
    fovLeft=2.08;

(These were given to me from and ArmA3 fov calculator for 105 degrees at 4:3 resolution)
*note that if you change your resolution in game again after doing this, these fov values will be reset to default, so it’s important to have your desired resolution set before doing this.

    – Launch ArmA3 again and into a mission. open vorpX delete menu and adjust image zoom down to 0.96 , and 3D strength down near 0.59 .

All together this combination feels good to me using HP Reverb G1 at 105 degrees fov.

you could probably experiment with higher value resolutions of 4:3, but 1440p seemed a good balance for my 2080ti . don’t forget to increase the imaage sharpening to your liking in vorpX image settings page, as this can greatly increase the clarity of textures at lower resolutions.

    Hi

I’m trying to get good results as a new user to VorpX with Arma 3

    My specs : 10900k. &. 3080

I made a custom resolution which is same as my quest 2 ( 1832×1920 ) & used auto stretch option in arma2 as well as selecting the new custom res

Much better & aspect seems spot on,
just x2 last points below :

    1)
But still need to zoom out a tad -when I press minus key for small zoom out that seems about right but can not keep my finger in it

    2)
    Fish eye still slightly present

Other than that all else impressive
Just need to sort these last x2 points

If anyone has any pointers it would be much appreciated

    Hi all

    Specs: Quest2 , 3080 , 10900k

I’ve recently purchased VorpX to use Arma3
I’ve setup a few custom resolutions & found the more square ones seem better ( 2048×2160 )

    Few issues

    View seems slightly zoomed in
no matter what VorpX setting or Arma3 “zoom” , “5×4” etc in res setting option
I tried changing fov in the arma3 config file , I saved it but dont think it’s doing much

Very slight gosh eye type effect when moving head left & right

    Any ideas ?
