Are you using Virtual Dektop by any chance to stream the image to the headset? if so, please use Oculus Link instead like suggested above.

With everything working correctly (which it does at default settings) the image fills the entire view.

Also just in case: vorpX does not work with the (years old) mod version of Black Mesa, only the the version that you can buy on Steam is supported.

I‘m not really sure whether I understand the issue correctly, but Black Mesa should work just fine in FullVR mode.

    General Oculus Link setup:

    1. Connect your Quest with an USB cable to your PC.
    2. Select Oculus as the headset type in the vorpX config app.
    3. Enable Oculus Link in your Quest headset.

    Running the game:

    1. Reset the profile to default in the config app (local profile or trouble shooting page) to make sure everything is dialed in as it is supposed to.
    2. Check the hint shown in the top left corner of the game window: all you have to do is setting a 4:3 resolution (e.g. 1600×1200 or 1920×1440) and run the DirectVR scanner after entering a game level.

BTW: If you don‘t have these resolutions on your PC, check the custom resolutions section in the vorpX help. It has a step-by-step guide that explains how to add resolutions that your monitor cannot display normally.

using vorpx on quest2 when I start the game in the viewer I see a window with inside the game and it is not a real experience in vr, of course I set in the vorpx full vr menu, if I zoom in on the textures, what can I do to solve the problem?

That did it! Every resolution problem i had has been solved by this. Resident Evil 7, Half Life 2, Black Mesa, Portal, Dishonored, Bioshock, they all look better than i couldve imagined!

The problem was that i tried to be clever when setting the custom resolutions and used 90hz.
Now at 60hz every game lets me choose them and its incredibly beautiful! My Monitor is still at 1440p@165hz and i strangely have to use fullscreen in my headset everywhere to get the desired resolution but it works great!

    Thank you so much!

A couple weeks ago I was playing HL2 and everything was working as expected, but now when I attempt a direct vr scan it always fails. Other games, including Black Mesa, still scan just fine. Between then and now my computer installed some windows updates and SteamVR self-updated.

After I launch HL2 and it appears in the headset I change the resolution in the settings to 2880×2160 full screen and load a saved game.

    Windows 10 1909 18363.1316
    SteamVR 1.15.19
    Nvidia 457.30

Sorry to drag up an old thread.

I had a similar issue this afternoon with VorpX in that L4D2 hooked fine, whereas Black Mesa would not hook no matter what I tried (I bought VorpX specifically for Black Mesa, anything else will be a nice bonus).

I didn’t think completely removing my AV was a reasonable expectation for this software, and having now resolved it here is the steps to do so with ESET Internet Security:

    1. Open ESET GUI
    2. Go to ‘Setup’
    3. Browse to ‘Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS) and click the settings cog (the toggle will not work when enabled).
    4. Toggle off ‘Enable HIPS’ and click OK.
    5. Restart your PC.
    6. Temporarily disable Real-time file system protection (may not be required but doesn’t hurt for the period of time you’re playing a game).

In my case, any game I’ve since hooked incl. Black Mesa has worked perfectly. I understand Ralf that you could not realistically be expected to account for such a wide range of edge cases of software that interfere with the methods VorpX uses to inject into games, so hopefully someone finds this useful.

I just bought Vorpx a few days ago. I had heard about it, but been on the fence for a few years. Ive been playing alot of halo and saw a beardo benjo video that it could be played with Vorpx so I bought in.

Ralf what you have done with this software is fantastic. Halo CE was amazing, I just beat it last night. I was sad to learn the other halos dont work well yet, but still that one experience was so amazing. Ive moved onto Black Mesa now which is also extremely good.

Im getting more playtime out of my headset now, in just a few days, then I have in months. So thank you Ralf, and Beardo Benjo, and everyone else contributing to this.

    Hello,

I really like how Black Mesa runs on VorpX now. I just have one question. Objects at a distance (like down a hall) look fairly blurry. Is there a way to make it look less blurry? Preferably without increase the game resolution.

If you increase the game resolution then you get flickering issues. So I’d like to avoid that.

    Thank you,

I am aware that there are user profiles for both games, but they are not officially supported. Everything you see in the profile cloud that doesn’t end with [vorpX] is a user profile. Can’t say much to that unfortunately. However, I was made aware recently of some older OpenGL user profiles not working right anymore. Since both games use OpenGL they are affected probably. Will be looked into.

As far as Half-Life is concerned I’d highly suggest Black Mesa: Source on Steam instead, which works great with vorpX. Just in case you never heard of it before: Black Mesa: Source is a remake of the original Half-Life with more modern graphics. Caveat: It has to be the Steam version, there also is a fairly old free version, but that is not supported by vorpX.

Apart from that: take a peek at the Good Full VR Games for Beginners list. Those are known to work great with minimal fuzz.

BTW: You don’t need to download official profiles usually, vorpX already comes with all official profiles that are available.

Hi, I’ve just got Vorpx and testing with the Quest2 myself (using usb cable & “link”). Only had it for one day but I’ve tested briefly with Black Mesa (haven’t got to any combat yet) and Dead Space 3 (played about 40 minutes so far) and they seem to work well in full VR mode (ie. 360 stereoscopic with head tracking). Also tried about couple of minutes in Middle Earth: Shadow of War & Tomb Raider (2013) which worked well in Immersive Screen mode.

Other games like starcraft, diablo 2 and Total Annihilation are likely best played in “Immersive Screen” or “Cinema” mode.

As noted I’ve only just started with Vorpx but I believe you can set up your own profiles for new games and there’s a cloud profiles section. I checked the games you listed and found these (please note I haven’t tested them at all, just saw that there was a profile of some sort there already):
    Prototype 1 & 2
    Risk of Rain 2
    Satisfactory
    Warframe
    Deep Rock Galactic
    Trailmakers
    Middle Earth Shadow of War
    State of Decay
    Starcraft 2

    Hi,

Black Mesa looks amazing in Vorpx!

The default profile, and when using my xbox one controller, the right joystick doesnt move vertically. only the head tracking does this. Is there a way to change so that the right joy moves all directions? i feel like this is a head-tracking setting that i just have to turn off somewhere!

Please help! :) Thanks so much!

I had the same question about which one is the best profile. Right now when doing a game search for black mesa, it more than 2 dozen profiles, and 5 of them say “Black Mesa: Source”. (a good dozen of them say Half life 2 / portal / black mesa).

So out of the 5 ones that say Source, which one is recommended?
vorpX, ramms1989, nemphis, rudakoff, or AlabamaMan? I guess vorpX but just want to confirm.

try to create a custom.cfg file in \half-life 2\hl2\cfg\ i dont remember the exact location.

    look here for tweaks http://fr33man.altervista.org/HL2guida/HL2_7.htm

you can try to tweak fov_viewmodel if for some reason directVR dont fully work for you, when i played black mesa months ago, except for flickering weapons, i didnt have giants hands/weapons.

Am I doing something wrong or is this how it is supposed to be? Basically, in Black Mesa the background is ok but the foreground is covered by the character’s large hands and gun. As if it is zoomed in. In Half-life 2 this is fine because they seem to extend the arm distance out further. Is there a fix to this? Is there a thorough setup guide somewhere to Black mesa?

    Thank you,

    Hey there :)
I was wondering if anyone has a solution or knowledge if it’s a vorpX bug, when I launch games like HL02 or now Black Mesa, I get a little notification window through vorpX suggesting me to change the resolution to be 4:3 to avoid weapons flickering. Resolution is set to 4:3 but still have flickers. Not the whole screen, only models here and there… still very playable, just a bit annoying :(
