Have been having a hell of a time getting this to run at 1920×1440 or higher.
– If I allow Vorpx to change game settings (default), it runs at 1600×1200 no matter what and changing the resolution in the Vorpx menu (1440p, 1680p) doesn’t seem to make a difference.
– If I disallow Vorpx to change game settings and set the resolution through Black Mesa, I can get it to run in any res up to 1856×1392, but any res 1920×1440 or higher causes BM to revert to 16:9 1920×1080 (native). I have even tried forcing res in launch options which again works for anything under 1440.
– Changing resolution in-game causes a crash every time, so res has to be set before launching the game.
– All resolutions are defined as custom resolutions in the Nvidia control panel and work in other games.
Hey guys,
I wanted to play Black Mesa with vorpx but even before the main menu loads the game is crashing to desktop.
Can someone help me please?
Best regards,
Phili
Ok lol my bad, I was very surprised too, thanks.
Indeed I’ve just started Half life Black Mesa and will continue with HL2 waiting for the futur VR Gem HL Alyx! 8)
by the way, i tried half life 2 with cinematic mod and it worked great, so it’s really tempting to make a full run of Black Mesa/HL2 CM before Half Life Elyx arrives.
Has to be something on your end, I’m afraid. I checked the game literally minutes before the last vorpX update was released with the Black Mesa version that was released on Christmas Eve. It was also reported working well by another user in the 20.1.0 release thread.
Please reset the profile to default or try a full factory reset (config app/trouble shooting). You don’t need any cloud profile, the default profile works out of the box.
I was able to get this working very well for a long time about half a year ago. Been waiting for the Xen release before trying to play the entire game in VR but now the game crashes/shuts off before I get on the title screen. I tried different cloud profiles and still no luck. Is anyone else able to get this working very well? Or is this something on my end that I am either messing up or need to change? Any advice would be amazing
I’m using an Occulus Rift.
Well I tested black mesa by launching oculus dash, then vorpx, then steamvr and then the desktop icon. Vorpx hooked on perfectly and it loaded up fine, obviously because I was starting steamvr from the Oculus dash it wouldn’t then allow another app; no problems running both concurrently though. Can’t recall if the headset is set as a steamvr or oculus in the config though.
Although it’s all loaded up, the controllers are not responding. I’ve set them as Vive wands in the in-game config but I don’t know if the bindings will translate as they’re emulated controllers. What would be the typical control scheme for motion controllers in an fps? I’ve never used any beforehand so not sure what I should be aiming for. As there are no independent hand movements then VR motion controllers are not required?
Perhaps I should ignore using them as VR motion controllers and just use the original Razer drivers and set up a profile for them specific to hl2/black mesa?
I can confirm that Black Mesa looks fantastic now with 8k where before it was a shadow mess, at least the train part.
On the other hand, Bioshock Infinite tracking works just perfect now on 8k, i know it’s not mentioned anywhere but for whatever reason it worked poorly before, now it’s just perfect.
Really, I have a brand new Viveport sub taking dust since I can’t stop playing Vorpx, thanks Ralf for your hard work.
Amazing christmas present Ralf, fantastic update, I’ll try Black Mesa and see how well it works now.
Mmm, last time I checked X3 it was clearly 3D. In a large scale space sim you will have to fly fairly close to a station though to notice much of a 3D effect. Just like in reality things hundreds of meters away don’t really have any parallax. If it was any different, everything would look like a miniature world.
From the games on your list personally I would recommend Dead Space, Jedi Knight II, Prey 2017 (must play if you like Deus Ex & Co., you may want to stick to Z3D though), Crysis, Black Mesa, Fallout New Vegas, Left4Dead 2. Most of the others aren’t even officially supported, so I can’t comment on them.
Black Mesa, Fallout New Vegas, Left4Dead 2 have the best possible DirectVR support imaginable, even allowing a little bit of roomscale. Jedi Knight II has DirectVR rotaional tracking and FOV, Crysis and Prey 2017 have DirectVR FOV. All seven should be playable pretty much without tweaking except for adjusting resolution and image quality to your liking.
Hi all.
Trying to use VORPX in HL:BM (which supposedly should run great in d3d), but I have a shadow/lighting issue on Rift S.
For instance, it could be seen on the first monorail ride – sometimes the shadows exist in one eye and not the other. Same goes with monorail headlights – in one eye they are beaming and in the other eye – ditto.
VorpX is in D3D mode. Haven’t done a thing to it. Factory reset vorpx settings – done.
Have no clue what to do as I’m yet to find a game where I can actually play immediately :(
Using i5 (8th gen) and gtx 1080.
Appreciate the advises.
The flashlight is working fine here with the savegames you sent, so there is no problem with the 3D-profile.
Resolution is handled by DirectVR, you can change it on the DirectVR page of the vorpX menu after successfully adding the 4:3 custom resolutions to you PC or setting the game’s display mode to windowed.
I can’t really do anything else than recommending what I recommended in the Reddit thread a few days ago already, sorry again.
In a nutshell: reset everything to default, DO NOT tweak anything afterwards, setup 4:3 custom resolutions for your PC and let vorpX do its job. The Black Mesa profile automates everything, it works out of the box.
If by any chance you had used some other 3D-software before with the game or maybe some image enhancement shaders or similar things, it might also be worth a shot to empty the Windows DirectX shader cache.
I’m really out of ideas now.
First please make sure to use the latest paid Black Mesa on Steam. The right graphics API would be DX9, but I don’t think that can be changed anyway. Older free versions are unlikely to work correctly.
If you already use the latest paid Black Mesa, it would be great if you could send a savegame to support |at| vorpx com. The flashlight works fine here at the beginning of the game after getting the suit, but who knows.
Hey there
I’ve tried to solve this weird bug for several hours now. tested all gfx settings, dx9, opengl etc etc. Not able to solve this…
The issue is that shadows, reflections and flashlights only shows themselves on 1/4 of the screen. It’s super weird!! Here’s a pic: https://imgur.com/a/lZxyJRu
Works fine on pankace.. Any ideas?
Not a known issue. Half-Life 2 and Black Mesa were both checked with the latest version before release.
If vorpX does not hook into the games, please first try to enable (or disable if you currently have it enabled) alternative hooking in the config app. Please note that the alternative method should only be used in case of problems with a specific game. It‘s not better, just different.
If that doesn‘t help, please check for anything that may prevent vorpX from hooking into games. The pinned trouble shooting guide above lists potential candidates.
