Since some people seem to have problems to run “The Witcher 3” properly, I want to give my optimal settings for a GTX 1080 (@ 2 GHz), i7-6700K (@ 4,4 GHz) system.

    Public profile
You can find the public profile under the nickname “Amylion”. It’s a virtual 3D cinema for 4:3 aspect ratio (e.g. 1920 x 1440) with black borders (no ambience). The stereoscopic effect is enhanced both in strength and distance weighting. That leads to a strong 3D effect with minimal distortion at the contours; the drawback is a diminished difference in depth effect on close objects. The black borders are important, because the fresnel lenses of current VR devices sadly amplify bright spots in the periphery overproportionally.

    Resolution
    The recommended resolution is 1920 x 1440.
Contrary to some rumours it doesn’t actually translate to supersampling. If you run native SteamVR apps at a Supersampling factor of 1 (that means without real supersampling at the center of the display), the app will render in 1512 x 1680 for each eye!
1920 x 1440 is comparable, because the virtual cinema doesn’t cover the whole field of view. But if you go lower than that, the pixels in the center of the image will get stretched and look bad!

    In-game settings

    Post-processing
    Motion Blur: Off
    Blur: On
    Anti-aliasing: On
    Bloom: On
    Sharpening: Low
    Ambient Occlusion: HBAO+
    Depth of Field: On
    Chromatic Aberration: Off
    Vignetting: On

    Graphics
    VSync: Off
    Maximum FPS: Unlimited
    Resolution: 1920 x 1440
    Display Mode: Fullscreen
    Preserve System Gamma: Off
    NVIDIA Hairworks: On
    NVIDIA Hairworks AA: 0
    NVIDIA Hairworks Preset: Low
    Number of Background Characters: High
    Shadow Quality: High
    Terrain Quality: Ultra
    Water Quality: Ultra
    Grass Density: Medium
    Texture Quality: Ultra
    Foliage Visibility Range: Medium
    Detail Level: Ultra
    Hardware Cursor: On

    Gamma setting
The biggest issue are the gamma settings. It seems to be bugged. Even the highest in-game gamma settings are way too dark. Most details get lost in almost every scene, especially in dark in-door rooms with some light sources like candles.

You have to manually edit the “user.settings” file in the “The Witcher 3” folder in your Windows documents folder.

Set the “GammaValue=1.0” to “GammaValue=2.0”. Start the game normally for a quick test. It should look very bright and washed out (sometimes it fails to load the configuration properly), but in the headset it will look normal (= great).

    Input
In the same folder you can edit “input.settings” file to change the inputs that for some mysterious reason are locked in the in-game UI. For example I put the inventory on my Mouse5 button.

These settings will work flawlessly on a system with a GTX 1080. You probably can even go higher in some areas (shadows or grass / foliage).

    Have fun!

Ok, looking for information on my old hard drives,I found this information about “patching” big hands on Skyrim, which I mentioned earlier, with Ralf’s response included.

    Ralf comments:
In regard to the big hands:
    1. Open [Documents]\My Games\Skyrim\Skyrim.ini with a text editor
    2. Set the fDefault1stPersonFov value to 120. If it doesn’t exist, add it under [Display]
    3. Save and run Skyrim. You may need to swap between third and first person or even open the quad (star) menu and from there the map to apply the new value for some reason. After doing this once it will stick.

    —————————————————————————-
    Additionally Grumdark comments:
I am sure that applying step 2 and 3 was completely necessary in my case to fix the problem.
In addition to these steps, I increase a little value by default, for the (3dscale) option in vorpx menu,to get a slightly better result yet.
Final results were much better, after applying these changes.

Take a look though, to make sure that any possible value in the enhanced camera mod file could interfere with, overwrite or prevent result.

Just to be clear I am running the GTX 1080 8GB ROG STRIX on a PC with 32GB of RAM using the Oculus Rift. I can still provide my setting if you want but the only things I changed form the VoprX SE default were that I took separation up to 110 and took brightness down to 60-65. I like my dungeons dark. :)

Only running a few MODS on SE for now:
    Hide UI
    Unread Books Glow
    Realistic Lighting Overhaul
    Enhanced Blood Textures
    A Quality World Map

The new color palate is definitely a matter of taste. I’ve spent a good amount of time ingame now and have seen a few weather and lighting variations. Some of them are jawdropping. Some are way overblown. There was a red sunset I saw by Darkwater Crossing that looked like Mars or a postapocalyptic scene from Fallout. So it’s YMMV. It looked cool as hell, but was something I’d never seen in Sky with ENB or any traditional lighting/weather mods.

Generally I am just taking them as ‘something new to experience’ and eventually mods will have most of the old variations we were used to and a bunch more anyway.

Trying to get two steam games that are on the supported list to work and they are failing to start. I have both vive and oculus rift cv1 head sets to test with and both give the similar results. The games in question start ok without vorpx running. Read through the troubleshooting options in vorpx and the post on the forums, disabling antivirus, aero and other windows services, no other overlay apps running, no steam overlay, tried changing many settings in game outside of vorpx to see if that helps, swapping out of cinema mode and cycling between the 3d modes – geometry/z/z adapt doesn’t help. Recently upgrade from a GTX780 to 1080 but same results on both video cards.

Risen – this starts ok in cinema mode but shows all black screen. Never renders game. Switching out of cinema mode and cycling between the 3d modes – geometry/z/z adapt doesn’t help, display stays black.

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic – this crashes to desktop on start consistently after showing the main game menu scene with the character rendered, seems to want to work but then just crashes.

    System info:
    Windows 7
    ASUS nVidia GTX1080 Founders Edition
    Intel i5 2500k
    24GB RAM
Windows defender / Microsoft security essentials

Games that I have tested to work for me currently:
    Fallout4
    Skyrim
    Oblivion
    Dirt 3
    Torchlight 2
    Bastion

Part 5: Sacrifices must be made!

You’ve added higher rez textures. You beefed up the flora. You improved Skyrim’s outdated memory and core/thread management. The game looks fantastic and you are ready for MOAR!!! Now it’s time to add Framekiller #3. The lighting and weather mods.

There’s just one problem. You find that when you add a lighting/weather mod like Enhanced Lighting and FX, http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/27043/? your framerate heads into the toilet and you start crashing like a Boss. WHAT VILE SORCERY IS THIS!?!?!?! THIS MOD SUCKS!!!

No, it doesn’t and Unfortunately it’s the sorcery of simple math. You have hit the limits of the mighty Titan, at least as far as Skyrim’s ability to use it is concerned. With three of the most intensive GPU hogs (By their powers combined!) we can use, added to Skyrim’s kludged 32 bit code and the processing overhead VorpX places on the system, You done sailed into the perfect modding storm. Talos frowns on your Shennanigans and Clavicus Vile revels in your suffering.

Now what? Once you’ve seen the glory, there’s no going back. You’ll always know how good it looked and be miserable playing at lesser visuals knowing what could be. Actually, you’ve only seen ‘part’ of the glory.

(Puts on Matrix hat) Neo, what if I told you that I currently have 106 mods loaded up, Skyrim looks better than I have ever seen it, there’s no crashing involved and I’m still pulling 43-45FPS in all but the traditional trouble areas? This is the art of compromise and balance. Give some here to gain some there. Pay attention to the things that matter, etc.

Here’s what I discovered. Skyrim’s code, more than anything else is your real limiter. Not the GPU. Not the CPU. Although they certainly play a part. Yet when I was back to a slow, stuttering mess, the absolute worst I saw in Afterburner’s monitors was the Titan spiking once into the 80% use range and the CPU into the 70s. The Titan COULD handle a lot more mods. VorpX could process them just fine. But 32 bit DX9 Skyrim CANNOT.

First is the memory cap. With the HD textures, SFO and ELFX, I hit the 4 gig memory cap during heavy weather events and crashed. and even without the weather events going on, Skyrim simply was not processing the data it need to at the rate it needed to through/with VorpX.

Now is this a VorpX issue? No, because flipping over to Fallout 4 in Geometry mode with ALL the sliders maxed out and weather/lighting/flora mods and textures running, the Titan cruises at that 45FPS without a problem. The major difference is 32 bit DX9 vs 64 bit DX11 and far older and more inefficient coding.

Yea so what do we do now?

You mod smarter so that terrible and Mighty Talos, he who is both man and DIVINE! (hat tip to Heimsker) will haZ a happy.

Remember back to what I refered to earlier. What matters to you most? Do you need 2048 rez textures? or even 1024? Do you need a massive increase in the variety of flora to fill the spaces as you look across Tamriel or just better versions of whats already there? Are you satisfied with the stock weather or do you want more storm in your life? And what combo of the above will get Talos to his happy place?

You might notice that I left out lighting. Because IMO, that one isn’t negotiable. Skyrim’s stock lighting works, but it washes everything out. Nothing is ever truly dark in Skyrim, day or night, north or south, mountaintop or deepest dungeon. It’s at worst, eternal twilight. For me, that’s a ‘must fix’ at the cost of anything else because properly lit, even lower rez textures look a lot better.

I used to own the dk2 in the past and had this issue https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/34oeqr/problems_with_dk2_and_image_posterizing_in_elite/
It was fixable via the method described.

    I repurchased the dk2 recently.
Now with the latest oculus home runtime, the rift doesn’t show up in the Nvidia control panel as a second display.

So I can’t really fix this issue if I can’t access the settings. It sort of presents as though quite a few shades are missing from dark areas, rather than a smooth gradient from dark to light. It completely eliminates any shadow detail.

Fallout MODS (Using Nexus Mod Manager)

    • Ultimate Engine by Extark
    • Interiors Enhanced – Darker Ambient Light and Fog by fadingsignal
    • Bullet Time – Slow Time by registrator2000
    • Lower Weapons (for more screen space)
    • FO4 Hotkeys by registrator2000 (override VATS with BulletTime, also override “Xenon_Select” to not change FOV and press Insert for edge peek from controller)
    • Fallout 4 – Texture Optimization Project by torcher (for speed)

I also use JoyToKey to make the “select” button on the joypad trigger “EdgePeek”. This is quite a bit of setup, but the effects are pretty fantastic.

Are there any other settings out there that others have tried?

This is working nicely. Requires you set a custom resolution in Nvidia first (1350×1500 @60 Hz). The resolution does not need to be active. The game just needs to see that it exists.
You need to edit Darkmod.cfg to set the resolution and screen ratio or just copy this one:

Not sure if anyone is interested in this, so ignore if you already read enough CV1 first looks.

I’ll keep it brief. After playing around (better: working) with the CV1 for a few days now I think Oculus made the right decisions overall.

Most important thing in my book: yes, FOV is a bit smaller than DK2’s FOV, but you wouldn’t notice without having both side by side. My guess is they tried to find a compromise between maxed out FOV and minimized screen door effect. I think they pretty much hit the sweet spot. Obviously that’s a matter of personal preference, so your mileage may vary. For vorpX a slightly lower FOV is a good thing BTW.

Lenses: not much I can add to the lens disussion. Clearer image overall, but the fresnel lens flare is quite obvious, especially in dark scenes. So far I’m undecided whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages for me. It’s probably something one can get accustomed to. On the other hand I had no real complaints regarding the DK2 lenses. Ask me in four weeks for a final opinion on this one.

Head phones: didn’t use them much so far, but unless you are a hardcore audiophile you probably will be satisfied. Also they are easily removable, so whether you want to use them or not, no reason to complain here. As far as I’m concerned not having to deal with another cable outweighs any potential quality concern (which I don’t have anyway).

Tracking: didn’t encounter any issues so far. Tracking volume seems to be a bit larger than before, which is obviously a good thing. Doesn’t matter too much in regard to vorpX though.

Comfort: Huge step compared to DK2, provided you use the headset mainly yourself. Once adjusted it just fits perfectly.

Overall: Not a revolution, but a very substantial evolutionary step compared to DK2. Certainly large enough that DK2 owners do have a reason to upgrade if the headset itself is all to consider.

I have made several attempts, but no luck.
    I renamed udk.exe UDK.exe dehr.exe DEHRDC.exe but no luck.

games that do not work with 3D geometry vorpx are:
Metro last light(2d only)or metro LL redux (no inject)
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (2D only)
    deadfall adventures (no INJECT)

would be good profile in the next update
