But I was using a combination of modded FOV to 120 and vorpx FOV and image zoom last night. I zoomed out to the point where I could see the bars at top/bottom. The only way metro looked correct in zoom was when Mouse M peek was used or in cinema mode.

So why do you have IPD calibration in vorpx in-game menu if it’s not a factor in setting up correct image?

I tried all the steps u listed and FOV still too zoomed for metro LL. Dishonored looked much better with the steps but not Metro.

I think the default IPD is fine for most eyes but I guess not mine.

But…. maybe it’s a vision thing? If the FOV steps u detailed work for most people.. perhaps my IPD is out of normal range then? After I set my oculus calibration some weeks ago that shows 67 IPD. Default vorpx IPD is lower than this. Upping the FOV using vorpx in-game was dramatic. For the first time the zoomed-in look has gone and it looks pretty good now.

I reckon if I go back to Dishonored with the correct IPD for me then that too will look better.

I did a combination of the steps u listed last night and as I said… didn’t help.

The one step that did work was putting the games in cinema mode but that defeats the purpose. I think cinema mode is great for some games (especially 2d ones) but for any game with 3d support on vorpx I want non-theater mode.

Of course changing the FOV (field of view) makes a difference, it actually makes THE difference. The latest post on this thread before yours was from June, 7th. If this was an unsolvable issue, there would probably a lot more posts about this.

If you can’t see a difference, something went wrong. If a game normally uses an FOV of 75 for example, it looks very narrow and zoomed in, but if you set the FOV to 120 successfully, you have an FOV that is equal to what see in native Rift applications, nothing is zoomed in anymore afterwards.

That is possible in many games, but not all. vorpX also provides workarounds if it’s not possible in a game.

From best to worst here is what you can do (taken from the Essential Game Hints in the vorpX help):

    1. Set the game FOV directly in the game if it provides to dial in an FOV of 120°.
    2. Set the game FOV directly with the vorpX Game Settings Optimizer (vorpX config app) for games that support it.
    3. Set the game FOV to 120 manually through an ini tweak or external tool (avaliable for many games, google FOV + game name).
    4. Set the game resolution to a 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratio mode. 1280×960 for example. In many games this helps with FOV.
    5. Use the 3D FOV Enhancement in the vorpX ingame menu (availabe in Geometry 3D games).
    6. Use one of the letterbox aspect ratio modes in the vorpX ingame menu and/or ImageZoom.
    7. Play the game in Virtual Cinema Mode (can be enabled in the vorpX ingame menu).
    8. Use the 2D FOV-Enhancement in the vopX ingame menu (be aware that this distorts the image).

Well actually I did most of that last night. I applied the vorpx optimisations to each game. I was able to press F4 in Dishonored and that worked. Metro LL no way. No amount of FOV modding (including the .ini) made even the slightest difference. The games that are zoomed in look normal (good) in theater mode) or when using the peek feature (mouse M).

I had also used vorpx FOV controls and that helped slightly but Borderlands and Metro LL were still far too zoomed in.

As soon as I adjusted IPD in-game vorpx on Metro LL it looked normal for the first time. Increased stereo depth too.

By the way… I’d also changed the vorpx aspect ratios last night and none of them helped the extrem zoomed-in look.

So now the game is set to 90 via .ini and adjusted IPD and it looks good. As I said.. setting the FOV to 120 via .ini last night didn’t help at all.

Great points! I bought Dying Light a few weeks ago. Dishonored I played quite far through but would like to complete with Oculus now I have it (have only had DK2 for about 2.5 weeks). Alien Isolation also have but only played about 6 hours so far non-VR. Bioshock infinite I agree would be great. GTA V I don’t own yet. It’s currently on sale for at half price at greenmangaming. I agree Oculus should have had something like Vorpx or contacted Ralph to work with him? Seems counter-productive their lack of interest. I think Palmer is so focused on getting a new generation of VR games with menus and text VR compatible from the ground up. I think Elite Dangerous is a good example there… the menus are 3d and float in front of you.

    Thanks for your advice!

Another “thank you” for continued support for 2D edge peek. While I prefer 3D for cut scenes, games like Dishonored, Deus Ex, & Thief have a ton of written materials & it’s much easier to read notes & emails & such with 2D edge peek.

Can’t speak to your first question or to ENB, but you might be able to use Raedon Pro to inject Sweetfx, even with an Nvidia card. This works with vorpx activated. I’ve tested with Dishonored, Thief (2014), & Bioshock Infinite. Unfortunately, I’m unable to provide instructions. Someone on the oculus forums posted a youtube tutorial. You may want to search there. In addition, you may have luck with google searching for Radeon Pro/Sweetfx/Nvidia (in the event you have an nvidia card).

A tip that could help you out is go to Fallout 3 nexus and just go over the list of UI mods. It mite take a bit but there are all sorts of not so popular mods that work great in a VR environment.

Bethesda is having their very own(and first) E3 thingy this year so fingers crossed! I want Fallout 4 and Dishonored 2.

I just tried out Dishonored again after the newest vorpX update. I played through it before the update and it was cool but now that it has positional tracking its awesome! I know it would probably take some type of mod for the actual game, but is there any way to integrate the games lean mechanic into the positional tracking of vorpX? I know its not a priority by any means but it would be the icing on the cake for that game.

If you haven’t tried Dishonored yet with vorpX or played it at all then go out and do it! It’s great on the Rift. I crank up the positional tracking strength to 2.70 (to make it more responsive), Remove the cross hairs (less eye strain having a floating cross hair always in your face), and I set the FOV to 140 Instead of 120 (just seems to be more to “scale” and realistic for me). There are also some other vorpX tweaks you can make to suit your preferences.

But having the lean mechanic integrated somehow would be really cool.

Ok, so I’ve been fighting to get games at playable speeds for quite some time with Vorpx. Games played worse than expected in my computer: i5 750, 8gb ram, 7970, windows 7, some of them at unplayable levels, so I went for an upgrade and got a i5 4690k, gtx 970, 8gb ram 2400hz, 120gb SSD, and windows 8.

So the games I tried worked great, but since my 120gb SSD run out of space fast, I installed Dishonored in my old HDD that I use as secondary, and I was surprised that I was getting low fps even with that computer. However once I installed it on the SSD, it worked like butter, so the cheapest part of the upgrade meant a lot more than I expected.

So to sum it up, if you want to use Vorpx, you should upgrade to a SSD now if you haven’t already!

    Hello,
I’m new to Rift DK2 and how to drive it

so far I did not encounter any Vorpx problem with these games:

    Mirror’s Edge
    Call Of Prypiat
    Dishonored
    Arma series
    Metro Redux
    Outlast
    Thief2014

while (settings to default and monitor to Dk2):

    – Mass Effect 3 won’t activate the DK2
    – Portal 2 crashes to desktop as soon as it reaches the main interface, – although activating the DK2
    – Skyrim won’t activate the Dk2 and crashes to desktop

I’ve tried to follow the troubleshooting section suggestions, with no results

    any hints?

    thanks

I too am having horrible framerate when using geometry 3D in games, it’s tanking well below 50%, i’d say maybe its dropping by about 80%.

with dishonored I was getting high frame rate at maximum graphics settings + AA. in 2D

In 3D with all lowest settings no AA I get unplayable framerate with many stutters.

Usually the performance hit of Geometry 3D in vorpX should be in the range 50-60%, which is true for any 3D driver BTW. For smooth gameplay at 60/75fps in Geometry 3D your PC has to be able to run a game with 120/150fps in 2D.

For games like Bioshock 1 or Jericho, probably even Dishonored, this should be possible with a gfx card in the range of GTX770/780.

If your card has something like that, you should enable Adaptive VSync to avoid falling back straight to 30fps if 60fps are not possible. Also consider reducing Antialising settings, 60fps are more important.

And of course there is always Z-Buffer 3D in vorpX, which works almost as fast as 2D rendering. In VR high framerates can be more important than the better Stereo 3D effect with Geometry 3D.
