I should add – the new Doom is working, so it’s not the game. Dishonored never goes past the loading screen.

Hi, bought vorpX today, cannot get Dishonored (2012) to launch. I get the “Dishonored.exe stopped working” message.

I exhausted all suggestions on this forum and googled all other possible suggestions. Made sure no anti-virus is running, no Skype / Discord.

I’ve gone through the “read this first” guide by Ralph and checked off all the points.

What else can this be? I only got vorpX to play the original Dishonored.
    Thanks.

I generally do downsampling through the Radeon driver with custom 4:3 resolutions (e.g. 1920×1440, 2560×1920) – they then need to be selected in-game as the game’s resolution. Works for example in Bioshock and Dishonored.

Here a few hints to get started:
    – AMD has VSR and NVidias DSR which are a driver-side downsampling technology (doesn’t work on my setup; likely because of ultrawide monitor)
    – GeDoSaTo works well for DirectX9 games only through injection (might conflict with vorpx; I haven’t tested this)
    – The solution that I use involves some registry hackery – the advantage over GeDoSaTo is that it works with any game including DirectX11:
    https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/downsampling-with-amd-crimson-demonstration.404125/
I think there are some analogue instructions for nvidia on guru3d…

As I said, this method works well so far with VorpX for me.

Why does everything always take so long for this developer? Is it possible to make our own profiles? Why not just steadily add support for more games, instead of working on other features?

I’ve noticed Ralph only works around the release of big titles when he knows he can make more sales. Otherwise, he just goes silent.

I imagine coding something all by yourself is pretty tedious if not challenging and I’m sure he has other things in life he enjoys doing as well. All we can do is be patient. There used to be some kind of setting for creating your own profile but you have to ask for a key of some sort? I’m guessing it’s something that’s complex to do but I don’t see that option anymore

There’s a dishonored 2 profile in cloud profiles by Rising-Evil but doesn’t work for me. I’m not sure how he went about creating one.

There appear to be different types of flickering issues. Let me describe mine with solutions that I found:

Initially, I had massive flickering all over the screen, with different sections flickering at a different rate, starting at the main menu screen (or rather the initial “DISHONORED” title screen before the main menu). Yes, before any DirectVR attempts. And DirectVR didn’t change anything when it worked, or when it failed.

I figured out soon that this occurs only with Geometry3D, but not Z-normal/Z-adaptive, but G3D is just so much better when it works, like in other games…

So I took a look at the settings files. First, I realized that my settings files are laid out differently than what other resources have described. There is no DishonoredGame\Config\DishonoredEngine.ini, but those settings appear to be in Engine\Config\BaseEngine.ini. It appears that the flickering that I had in Geometry 3D is related to some floating point operations because setting “FloatingPointRenderTargets” to False resolved the flickering in G3D completely. Unfortunately, the graphics quality suffers – increased banding, and poor lighting effects are a result – but Geometry 3D works, and it is so much better than the Z modes!

Not sure if anybody else can replicate this, or if anyone knows of a possible fix that preserves the graphics quality AND allows for working G3D on my configuration…

By the way, my setup is a Ryzen 5-1400, Radeon RX570, OSVR HDK2, 8GB RAM, VorpX version 17.2.3, Radeon Software Version 17.9.1, Windows 10…

Utter nonsense. I’m answering questions here almost every day, which you could easily have noticed yourself if you had spent 30 seconds for reading before posting.

For the unlikely case that you didn’t just want to troll, but are actually interested in Dishonored 2, please read my answer two posts above. Nothing has changed since then.

Try starting Oculus home first. Disable all your anti virus software and turn off windows defender. Also try Bioshock Infinite, Skyrim, New Vegas or Dishonored just to make sure it’s not the game. That is all I can think of for the moment.

Yes, use xpadder or something similar. I use a paid app called Pinnacle, which is more flexible and powerful than the free solutions. How I set it up is a case by case basis. For New Vegas I setup the whole mapping through Pinnacle, while I only mapped edge peek and reset view on top the native controller mapping in Dishonored and Bioshock even though those buttons already did something else it worked like a charm. I changed Vorpx hotkeys for the edge peak and reset to Home and End instead of Mouse 3 and alt+space and then mapped the controller to End and Home.

With Pinnacle you can do other cool stuff. Like having the whole button layout change, when you hold certain buttons, to make room for more hotkeys, or have the right stick only move the on X-axis, and much more.

    Hi.
Actually managed to configure Dishonored so it runs pretty well, but one thing bothers me. by default the crosshair is too big, and it feels weird. I’ve found some options to scale the HUD in the VORPX menu, and it works well, except, when you crouch, it applies tint over everything, and it scales with the HUD and looks like a dark transparent rectangle at the center of your image. The problem is, it’s a stealth game, and you crouch 99% of the time. Is there a workaround or is there something I missed?
    Thanks )

Search the “DishonoredEngine.ini” in “\Documents\My Games\Dishonored\DishonoredGame\Config” for “DynamicShadows” and delete TRUE and type in FALSE instead. Then hit save and exit the document. I don’t have the game installed at the moments, so that’s the best I can do. Here is the guide I used for reference: https://segmentnext.com/2012/10/10/dishonored-pc-tweaks-guide-graphics-and-performance/

I have disabled self shadows and some other shadows in the ini file.DynamicLights=False
    DynamicShadows=False
    bAllowLightShafts=False
But facial shadows still look bad and many shadows in the game don’t render in both eyes.
I know the water reflections are broke – but does anyone know how to fix or disable the shadows in dishonored?

    Hello,

I got a really annoying issue with Dishonored and my vorpx.
When I run the game with VorpX I get fluttering/flickering and the game is basicly unplayable. I already tested with the resolution, but this doesnt help. Anyone an idea? :/

Thanks for the response, Ralf! I see your point. It could be a coincidence that SLI stopped working with voprx right after that update, I cannot exclude this. There were some updates in steamvr, Windows, and NVIDIA drivers. I use the vive, by the way.

As you said, the setting that you mentioned was already the safest. I also checked more games, and see that the problem occurs with all of them, except dishonored 2, for which I use the cloud profile. There is no 3D with that profile for some reason, but SLI does not cause the flicker problem.

I would like to check an older version of vorpx, but I don’t know how to get it. Could you help? The last version before the DirectVR would be good to try. I think it was 16.2.1

Yeah forget that sequel I will just play the first one, I hope that Prey is in Geometry 3D!!! Also please play Sanctum 2 – it’s excellent!

I heard Shadow warrior 2 works with Vorpx and also seems a good game…
How about mass effect 3? It should be half polished by now with all the updates?!?
It’s a shame that I played all the best games prior to getting my Pimax (half life, deus ex, portal, etc.)

Anyway I hope Fallout 4 will keep me going after Dishonored!

Don’t you ever say Dishonored 2 to me again. I literally spent over 2 weeks – enduring up to five minutes load times per game start – to even get that thing show up correctly, only to realize that G3D does nothing although it should.

There will be a Z3D profile for the game in the next vorpX version, but I can’t promise more. I won’t rule anything out, I just can’t promise more. Loading times are often so prohibitive long that it’s almost impossible to actually work on the title. Maybe some issue with their implementation of the Denuvo copy protection in conjunction with vorpX, that’s just a guess though. Sometimes loading times feel almost normal, but most of the time starting the game takes forever.

Prey (the new one) is in my Steam library and looks like a good candidate, but I haven’t looked into it yet. So I can’t say anything profound.
