MarcoParticipantPoints of view.. my games work great.
I just tried deus ex human revolution. It’s working, but took more than one hour to optimize via vorps settings, in game. And synchronisation is bugging with xbox controler, I must play directly on my keyboard.
And must notice that the quality of the textures is lower than half life 2 (2004) in VR (that is not requiering vorpx). I feel like playing a game of 2000 and not 2011…
I don’t like playing Deus Ex on the Vive so much. Which means that in my opinion that’s not one of the best VR adaptation. To see what Vorpx can do you should try other games especially Dishonored, Outlast, Bioshock Infinte, Aliens Colonial Marines, The Darkness 2… These are the ones i have offering best perfomance and easy configurations. Visually, they look great. But you will need a powerful rig to play in VR while keeping high resolution (1920×1440) and in game detail. Then it’s all about teaking and the way each games performs in VR. Some games may not be perfect but still highly playable, i would say Max Payne 3 and Duke Nukem Forever for example. Basic configuration is similar in most games but then you will see there’s always one or other little thing that can be fixed or adjusted to achieve the best experience.
Dude i tried Human Revolution: Directors Cut and it’s seems to be working quite well. It was one of the first games i tried and i couldn’t configure it properly that time. For your control problems i suggest to partially override the controller: both sticks but not the button. Then fine tune the sensibility of each sticks until it works well and do the same with head tracking sensibility. About the visual performance, i am getting very good results with gtx970. I set the resolution to 1920×1440, Fov 110, asyncronous time warp deactivated, lowered in game details. Then do the usual things like adjust the 3d strenght and image zoom. I just played a bit, i need further testing but i would say that this way it was working very well, and the game looked and sounded better than ever in this new prospective. I hope the vr gameplay will keep up but everything seems good so far!

MarcoParticipantI just tried the resolution 1920×1440. It performs much better than any other combination tried so far, especially the suggested 1280 x 1024. My suggestion is to make clear the resolution matter here in the forum and directly in the software because i think that suggesting 1280 x 1024 can be misguiding. I see that with lower resolution games performs slightly better but looks too much worse to be a fair trade and someone may get a wrong impression about your fantastic software.
In 1920×1440 games such Dishonored, Aliens:Colonial Marines, Bioshock Infinite runs very well on my Gtx970 and Vive, looking almost as good as native VR titles! Well done!!!!!!!

MattParticipantI have the FOV set at 120 and the 1st person FOV set at 140. I’m using the enhanced camera mod as well. It looks better as you said but not quite right yet..Can you suggest a specific mod or mods that will fix the giant arms issue? I am so close to Skyrim VR! Bioshock Infinite, Alien Isolation, and Dishonored have been a blast. I can’t wait to get started with Skyrim. I see so many other mods I want to install I just need to fix these big arms!! Thanks in advance.

I can’t decide between Bioshock Infinite and Dishonored as my favorite game with Vorpx/OculusCV1 so far. I know that I much prefer the custom ARs and they aren’t a load of ****.

in forum Technical Support
SpynalTomParticipantFirst let me say thank you to Ralf for all you do. I am a long time lurker and long time owner. The experiences I have had due to VorpX allowing me to play some of my favorite games in VR is astonishing. My current favorites are Planetside 2, Fallout 4, ESO (it will work again I know it), Skyrim (of course), Dishonored, and the Metro series. Currently I am trying to get DayZ working and I thought I would try my luck and creating a new profile based on the ArmaII profile. When I attempt to link the .exe to the profile I get this message:
DayZ.exe is already assigned to the below profile(s):
DayZ Standalone
You can only assign programs that are not already assigned.
I have looked but I cannot find a DayZ Standalone profile.
I’m sure I’m doing something wrong and am hoping you can point me in the right direction. However if you are currently working on ESO DX11 please do not stop, I can wait. :)
Thanks again. I don’t feel you get enough positive feedback here or on Reddit so I just wanted you to know I appreciate all you do.Apr 11, 2016 at 2:47pm #100691
Mack1000ParticipantIt’s hard to describe, but when I look right or left I the screen peels away from my view and I see off the edge of the screen; almost like it’s in cinema mode.
Yeah same for me (odd and difficult to describe). Its like a screwed up backwards virtual cinema mode (or edge peek). Fallout 4 was fine in the previous release. Glad its not just me. Head tracking seems backwards and there is a screen in front (virtual cinema works fine btw).
Same thing happens for me in Bioshock infinite and Alien isolation.
This doesn’t happen for Skyrim or Dishonored (completely fine in those two).

bagnetParticipantbecause i dont want to be switching driver and i saw it in the games list. the same thing happens on tomb raider as well. something is wrong with head tracking with this version. its the same as people are reporting on gtaV. dishonored is ok so its not all games but somethings not right

Gladi8orParticipantI tried this with Fallout 4 by setting the 960×1080 in the ini. It worked and looked nice but the HUD and cursor is unusable. Is there another trick I can try?
The lock picking screen is missing with a custom resolution. I tried dishonored (g3d), outlast (g3d) and bioshock infinite (z3d). They worked perfectly with 1600*1800. The image quality was very nice.
Oct 30, 2015 at 4:32pm #90841In reply to: The zoomed-in problem
feathers632ParticipantYes and the vorpx optimiser has been taking effect. It worked for Dishonored for example so I know that’s not the issue. Because metro LL was still so zoomed I tried going more extreme with the FOV from user.cfg. That didn’t help. Using vorpx image zoom and increasing vorpx FOV helped a bit but still not enough for correct image.
I think the IPD was wrong for my eyes. Surely the IPD can’t be correct for everyone or else you wouldn’t have adjustment for it in game?
:)
Oct 30, 2015 at 4:13pm #90839In reply to: The zoomed-in problem
feathers632ParticipantBut I was using a combination of modded FOV to 120 and vorpx FOV and image zoom last night. I zoomed out to the point where I could see the bars at top/bottom. The only way metro looked correct in zoom was when Mouse M peek was used or in cinema mode.
So why do you have IPD calibration in vorpx in-game menu if it’s not a factor in setting up correct image?
I tried all the steps u listed and FOV still too zoomed for metro LL. Dishonored looked much better with the steps but not Metro.
I think the default IPD is fine for most eyes but I guess not mine.
Oct 30, 2015 at 3:45pm #90837In reply to: The zoomed-in problem
feathers632ParticipantBut…. maybe it’s a vision thing? If the FOV steps u detailed work for most people.. perhaps my IPD is out of normal range then? After I set my oculus calibration some weeks ago that shows 67 IPD. Default vorpx IPD is lower than this. Upping the FOV using vorpx in-game was dramatic. For the first time the zoomed-in look has gone and it looks pretty good now.
I reckon if I go back to Dishonored with the correct IPD for me then that too will look better.
I did a combination of the steps u listed last night and as I said… didn’t help.
The one step that did work was putting the games in cinema mode but that defeats the purpose. I think cinema mode is great for some games (especially 2d ones) but for any game with 3d support on vorpx I want non-theater mode.
Oct 30, 2015 at 2:55pm #90835In reply to: The zoomed-in problem
feathers632ParticipantOf course changing the FOV (field of view) makes a difference, it actually makes THE difference. The latest post on this thread before yours was from June, 7th. If this was an unsolvable issue, there would probably a lot more posts about this.
If you can’t see a difference, something went wrong. If a game normally uses an FOV of 75 for example, it looks very narrow and zoomed in, but if you set the FOV to 120 successfully, you have an FOV that is equal to what see in native Rift applications, nothing is zoomed in anymore afterwards.
That is possible in many games, but not all. vorpX also provides workarounds if it’s not possible in a game.
From best to worst here is what you can do (taken from the Essential Game Hints in the vorpX help):
- Set the game FOV directly in the game if it provides to dial in an FOV of 120°.
- Set the game FOV directly with the vorpX Game Settings Optimizer (vorpX config app) for games that support it.
- Set the game FOV to 120 manually through an ini tweak or external tool (avaliable for many games, google FOV + game name).
- Set the game resolution to a 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratio mode. 1280×960 for example. In many games this helps with FOV.
- Use the 3D FOV Enhancement in the vorpX ingame menu (availabe in Geometry 3D games).
- Use one of the letterbox aspect ratio modes in the vorpX ingame menu and/or ImageZoom.
- Play the game in Virtual Cinema Mode (can be enabled in the vorpX ingame menu).
- Use the 2D FOV-Enhancement in the vopX ingame menu (be aware that this distorts the image).
Well actually I did most of that last night. I applied the vorpx optimisations to each game. I was able to press F4 in Dishonored and that worked. Metro LL no way. No amount of FOV modding (including the .ini) made even the slightest difference. The games that are zoomed in look normal (good) in theater mode) or when using the peek feature (mouse M).
I had also used vorpx FOV controls and that helped slightly but Borderlands and Metro LL were still far too zoomed in.
As soon as I adjusted IPD in-game vorpx on Metro LL it looked normal for the first time. Increased stereo depth too.
By the way… I’d also changed the vorpx aspect ratios last night and none of them helped the extrem zoomed-in look.
So now the game is set to 90 via .ini and adjusted IPD and it looks good. As I said.. setting the FOV to 120 via .ini last night didn’t help at all.

feathers632ParticipantUpdate:
Got MPC-HC displaying in 3d with vorpx now. It wasn’t crashing – whenever I bring up the in-game menu (DEL) it pauses the video (I thought the pause was video crash). Videos look amazing in 3d on the virtual cinema.
I got the FOV to increase in Dishonored with F4.
Oct 24, 2015 at 9:58pm #90545In reply to: Vorpx Demo????
feathers632ParticipantGreat points! I bought Dying Light a few weeks ago. Dishonored I played quite far through but would like to complete with Oculus now I have it (have only had DK2 for about 2.5 weeks). Alien Isolation also have but only played about 6 hours so far non-VR. Bioshock infinite I agree would be great. GTA V I don’t own yet. It’s currently on sale for at half price at greenmangaming. I agree Oculus should have had something like Vorpx or contacted Ralph to work with him? Seems counter-productive their lack of interest. I think Palmer is so focused on getting a new generation of VR games with menus and text VR compatible from the ground up. I think Elite Dangerous is a good example there… the menus are 3d and float in front of you.
Thanks for your advice!
