Topic: Quest 2 controllers not working in gamepad mode
in forum Technical Support
EikeParticipantHi all,
While trying to play Final Fantasy VII Remake with VorpX, I failed to get my Quest 2 controllers to work in gamepad mode. They’re completely unresponsive. Which is weird cause the game supports gamepads natively.
How does VorpX gamepad emulator work? Should it make my Quest 2 controllers work as an Xbox Series controller for example? They work when I set them in KB/M mode but you lose analogic joysticks and the controls feel really bad.
I would like to use my Quest 2 as a way to remote play from another room. Either in flatscreen mode or 3D. I tried connecting my Xbox Series X controller to my Quest via bluetooth. Connection is ok but gamepad is unresponsive while using VorpX.
To conclude, is there any way to reliably use VorpX as a way to remote play on my headset away from my computer, with no keyboard or mouse or gamepad, only Quest 2 controllers?
Thank you for your help.

rogertyParticipantFinally ! I succeeded; The instructions, if anybody is interested are as follows:
– Download dgVoodoo2_81_3 from here: http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/ReadmeGeneral/ (*)
* Note: make sure you use http:// at the url, because in many browsers I have to change it from https to http, because it changes automatically for some unknown reason. Also, it’s not related to VR but those instructions are also necessary to run this program on Windows 10:
Before you run the game, create a preparebillar.cmd file with the following lines and run it as administrator:
cd c:
cd “C:\Program Files (x86)\CANAL+\CANAL+ CLASSIC BILLAR”
cd Divers
del FS_Device
del FS_Driver
del FS_Mode
pauseContinuing with the VR stuff, now copy the following files (without including its folders) from the folder you had decompressed dgVodoo, to the folder where the main executable for the game is installed, for example in “C:\Program Files (x86)\CANAL+\CANAL+ CLASSIC BILLAR\CCBillard.exe”:
dgVoodooCpl.exe
All files inside the “MS\x86” folder: D3D8.dll, D3D9.dll, D3DImm.dll, DDraw.dll
All files inside the “3Dfx\x86” folder: Glide.dll, Glide2x.dll, Glide3x.dllNext, open the configure Vorpx dialog and download the cloud profile named “Aliens vs. Predator 2 (DGVoodoo2) – Z3D” and change its executable to point to CCBillard.exe and rename its local profile to “Canal + Classic Billar” and apply the changes.
Run the preparebillar.cmd as administrator. Finally, open your VR Headset e.g. Quest 2, connect to link, show the desktop and run the program CCBillard.exe as administrator from its folder (the desktop shortcut method does not seem to be working): A message will appear with a warning that a third party DLL (from dgVoodooCpl) has been detected; minimize all temporarily, find again that message and click on accept; Then return to the game.
When you accept from inside the game the initial proposed resolution, it should then attach to vorpx and launch it in VR.
Tips: you can also use RivaTunerStatisticsServer that comes with MSI Afterburner to show the api level used by the game, that should display Directx 11 if dgVoodooCpl.exe is working properly.

mr_spongeworthyParticipant@Ralf. Thanks for your feedback. I work in K-8 EDU and admit that often leads to “thinking things through” out loud (here) instead of privately. I will try to avoid doing this so much in the future.
To be clear, even if I don’t go through my entire testing process I DO rigorously test with controlled benchmarks (in-game when possible). I *always* start at the basics when encountering a problem; Has something changed in my BIOS, have I installed anything new (even just a driver update), is my cooling still working properly? I use benchmark software (historically Cinebench and Furmark, but currently I usually just run 3D Mark to do the “extreme” GPU + CPU stress test) to double-check that performance has not degraded for some unknown reason or an instability crept in. I don’t believe anything I see just once.
I, do, however, keep coming back to Cyberpunk after long lapses in playing it, and I forget about all the Cyberpunk-specific foibles. Or maybe I’m just overly-optimistic that somehow they have finally been fixed. (hahahahaha, right…)
I have tested this particular behavior (GPU usage with the vorpX virtual monitor enabled) and although I noticed that in Cyberpunk I belatedly realized it’s a terrible title in which to do any testing. In Cyberpunk my performance will alter dramatically simply by switching from real screen to virtual, or back, or back and forth. Using the built-in benchmark I repeatably see my max fps drop by 10-20fps. Sometimes my minimum and average also simultaneously go up. I have to Quit and re-run the game and all is good again. It’s just a completely and utterly unreliable title to try and use to figure out anything (other than figuring out “this is a Cyberpunk problem”). Like many (everyone?) even in 100% vanilla Cyberpunk I see repeatable, slowly decreasing performance just from entering and exiting menus, or even when visiting certain locations which will then cause performance to drop everywhere until you reload or quit and reload. It’s just the worst.
BUT, I do also see performance differences in the only other title I currently have installed that has a built-in benchmark: Far Cry Primal. That title consistently and repeatably benchmarks FASTER on the vorpX virtual display than it does when on my physical monitor. Every time. Identical settings. Absolutely repeatable. As you’ve said, this does not seem to be vorpX related in any way. vorpX was just the first thing that came to mind because it’s been so long since I’ve run multiple screens on any game rig. I *think* what I’m seeing is typical of 3D acceleration on Windows machines with 2 or more monitors, especially if those aren’t running the same refresh. It’s been probably 12 years since I used multiple displays on a gaming rig, but it definitely used to cause a bit of unanticipated behavior.
(BTW; if you ever do implement a longer edit window I’m one of those forum users who will go back and edit my original posts with more concise info. For example, I would have edited the post where I initially noticed the differing performance with something like “EDIT: For anyone else seeing differing performance on the virtual monitor I have now tested further and this does not appear to be vorpX related but rather a game-specific issue with Cyberpunk, which was the title in use when I first noticed this behavior.”
Looking forward to the next Beta!
Feb 24, 2023 at 3:19pm #215289In reply to: vorpX 23.1.0 BETA
mr_spongeworthyParticipantI have finally resolved the AFR issue I was having with Cyberpunk (at least, now I can play for over an hour without needing to restart the game or simple load a save.) The Steam client (not the Steam VR client) was crashing in the background ONLY while playing Cyberpunk. This was greatly exacerbating the long-standing ‘slow degradation of performance’ which has plagued Cyberpunk, causing it to kick-in the moment the Steam client crashed, instead of taking an hour+. This then caused significant spikes in CPU usage, which was causing the AFR sync to drop out momentarily. As Steam was only crashing during Cyberpunk, I had not put 2-and-2 together. Reinstalling Steam did not fix the problem. Neither did a clean install of Cyberpunk. Turning on the Steam beta fixed the issue immediately.
So, here are my actual findings with the Beta 23.1.0 now that I have that not-vorpX related issue fixed:
1) Performance in Cyberpunk is better with the 23.1.0 beta than it is with the stand-alone mod. It is very easy to hit 60fps at insane quality settings on my 3D display. It remains tantalizingly out of reach to hit 45/90 at sufficient quality in this particular title on my HMD however, so I’m stuck at 37.5/75 when playing in on my HMD. Ultimately I think DLSS3 Frame Generation is the going to be the killer feature to get such demanding titles to play well. Using Z3D to my HMD, not AFR. Note that normal things like turning off RT do not resolve this issue; it seems very-specifically related to the rendering resolution. Even when I turn quality lower Cyberpunk will cause the HMD-refresh to drop below 90, causing the in-game rendering to also drop and stutter to begin. I have to reduce quality by truly *massive* amounts to maintain 45/90 in that particular title.
2) AFR works on my 3D Display in Cyberpunk, but Z3D solutions are broken in all titles.
3) Performance in other titles seems very good. For example I am able to play Hogwarts at 4K, RT High, DLSS Off with nearly all quality settings maxed (lower quality on Fog and post-proccessing at this time) at 45/90.
4) The following vorpX sync setting work FAR far (far, you get the idea) better than any other combination on my Pimax 8k-x. You might consider making this setting combo the default for Pimax HMDs: Sync method: Slow, HMD Multithreading: ON (this provides not only the highest in-game rendering rates compared with the other methods, it also creates the lowest-judder experience.)Dec 29, 2021 at 12:59pm #208588In reply to: Future Best FPS: “Ready or Not” (Unreal Engine 4)
artimageParticipantI completely agree with what you say.
What I was referring to realistically, I was referring to the police tactics used.
As for movement in full agreement, without total free movement in VR there can be no authenticity.
I know the videos of the police and military tactical VR simulators that you show me, since I have also been working on one of my own for a long time https://virtual3dgun.com/index_en.html with VBS, but I wanted to be able to try the Ready or Not in a psedo3D experience because it sure gives me good ideas, since so far the VR FPS that I have been testing do not end up being tactically realistic neither in weapons, nor in AI, et.I have finally been able to configure the “Ready or Not” with the Conarium profile, although I have not been able to activate Direct VR. As this game cannot at the moment use the independent head of the weapon, and using the head tracking for the weapon is not operational and only makes you dizzy. I have preferred to play it in “Immersive Screen” format, I have raised the FOV of the game to the maximum , I have enlarged and folded the screen to the maximum in height and width, building a semi-dome until achieving a useful FOV with the Quest of about 160 degrees that allows me to turn the view to the side, and I have assigned the mouse to rotational movement (Pitch, Yaw) of the right Touch Controller with “auto_oculus_touch”, the left one I have assigned to the thumb pad the “wasd” movement of the character, the controls are attached to a rifle mount, and finally I connect with the Quest through AirLink wireless, I launch VorpX with “Oculus” mode and voila …. everything working and it’s a fascinating experience.
What I’m wondering is why it doesn’t allow you from VorpX to assign, for example, the mouse axes to the rotational axes (Pitch, Yaw) of the Touch Controllers without using third-party programs. If it is already being done for the head axes, it does not cost anything to put a check to assign the controls to the Touch and it would be very useful in the “Immersive Screen” mode. I say this because the “auto_oculus_touch” program only works from “Oculus” but is not activated from “SteamVR”.
In fact I am going to test the ArmA 3 profile to see how it has been resolved in VorpX when you can turn the head independently of the weapon, because the ideal is, since you are with a VR helmet, is to stop using the mouse and use the Touch controllers as mouse that are also very accurate in mouse emulation mode. Thanks a lot.

senoctarParticipantUpscaling/sharpening is done at the final stage before the images are sent to the headset, which is the best point in time to do this.
This is a bit counter-intuitive to me. I assumed applying sharpening after the depth effect would worsen the inherent artifacts (for example making edges more visible on the “halo effect” for third person games).
If applying FSR right at the end is better it would mean vorpX should yield better results compared to enabling it in-game. At least for quality since the game would process one image instead of two.Apr 25, 2021 at 10:39am #202174Topic: F1 2020 super pixelated and blurry
in forum Game Hints and Settings
ConanapParticipantHello! Got vorpx for F1 2020; took me a while to get going but finally working now.
I’m running an HP Reverb G2 with OpenXR and everything looks very jaggy and pixelated, the distance boards (eg 100, 50) are completely unreadable. I did a little bit of googling and couldn’t find any answer or the settings they mention – for example, someone suggested something about pixel 1:1 -> 1.5x, but I found no such settings anywhere; I don’t think I’m looking in the right place.
I just want to be able to read the boards so I know my braking points; would absolutely appreciate any help and guidance, as well as exactly where these settings are.
Thanks everyone!

RalfKeymasterThe trick in case of lower framerates feeling choppy is to enable FluidSync. FluidSync caps the game framerate at exactly half the headset refresh rate. In your case that would be 36. Provided you can keep up these 36fps fully stable, sometimes that can feel smoother than a higher framerate fluctuating between for example 40 and 60.
Also, just in case: use vorpX’s built in fps counter (ALT-F). I will show you two framerates. With FluidSync enabled it should ideally always show 36/72 in your case, 36 being the fps the game runs with and 72 the fps vorpX uses for sending the final image to the headset.
Feb 20, 2021 at 9:54pm #200614In reply to: Describe difference between Z3D and G3D
zhdunParticipantGeometry 3D adds a second camera (one for each eye) to give stereo vision. This is why it looks most real and cost double performance.
It sounds obvious, but…
I was using Nvidia 3d Vision before it was dumped by vendor. It was in fact doing real Geometry 3d, not Z3D for sure. And the performance was dropping only by like 10-15%. Rendering a second cam should not cost double performace, as most of the rendering of the scene can be shared between both cams, and only at final rendering stage it needs to be separated.
Also games that are made specially for VR, are actually real 3d and they run on my same machine on max graphics and high resolutions at maximum frame rates. Even though, they also need to render two eyes.
I was expecting performance drop with vorpx when using G3D, but not that much. In example Farming Simulator 19 on same machine, was running for me with Nvidia 3d Vision at 60fps at maxed out graphics stable. While with vorpx G3D it breaks down to something like 10fps. Even with lowest graphics settings and lowest resultion its not going higher then 30 but of course looks like mess. With Z3D runs smoothly at 60 fps with max settings and high res. G3D kills the performance for FS19 completely it’s not just halving the performance, it kills it completelly. So actually even though G3D is available for FS19 it is in fact unusable.
I assume therefore that the method how vorpx realises G3D certainly has some issues with the performance, and it cannot be justified by just saying, well it has to render everything twice. No it doesn’t. If it does it, then its not an optimal solution.
I am suspecting, that G3D breaks the performance in vorpx because it actually renders everything 3 times from scratch and is not sharing ressources. Don’t forget the monitor. I have a reason to believe that monitor is rendered compeletely separately. 1. It runs a different resolution. 2. When changing camera hight in vorpx G3D settings, it does not affect the monitor, you see it only in VR.

RJK_ParticipantJust delete the D3D9.dll we are using the d3d8.dll for this. Besides if you create for example a 2880×2160 custom resoultion in your graphics driver panel and switch to that resolution (of corse your monitor need to support that), then force res. to that setting in the DGVoodoo2 panel, you can play that res. in your HMD. – Glad i finally was able to help.
Jan 14, 2021 at 9:07pm #199675In reply to: Curious Technical question
Eola667ParticipantThe only three things I’ve seen change how the image looks with the same settings are either physical headset adjustments (being closer/further from the actual headset screen via mechanical means which can change perception along with FOV), resolution which changes VorpX screen aspect ratio though you’ve already pointed it out (not sure if Nvidia scaling for example can affect the VorpX screen dimensions, but I’ve got it switched off just in case). And then finally your own eyes when it comes to things like 3D strength, how comfortable people are with different 3D strengths can vary from person to person from what I could gather, sometimes for me the correct 3D strength even varies between playthroughs, although very, very slightly. Edit: keep in mind though, the variance in perceived correct 3D strength per playthrough/person isn’t caused by VorpX, but by how the eyes/brain percieve all this in the first place.

GojakParticipantOne final question (I hope). When I get in game the mouse cursor seems “bound” somewhat. For example, when I open the pip boy, the cursor seems to hit some kind of invisible “wall” and I can’t move it higher in order to select the stats, inventory, data, radio sections of the pip boy. When playing the game on monitor, the cursor will go anywhere on screen. But when using VorpX it goes almost everywhere, but like I said it seems to hit these invisible “walls”, and I can’t move it beyond them even though I should be able to.

in forum Technical Support
mr_spongeworthyParticipantAfter switching from Lounge to Full VR mode in Fallout 3 (looks and runs fantastic with FO3 @ 4K, thanks!) I have been plagued with one problem; numerous functions of my XBox controller no longer function after the Direct VR scan. I finally remembered that Fallout 3 has a bug where if you disconnect / reconnect a controller many functions stop working. I can no longer drop items or place custom map markers, for example. But this disconnect/reconnect process appears to happen each time I run the DirectVR scan?
Is there any way for me to fix this?

Hi all,
While trying to play Final Fantasy VII Remake with VorpX, I failed to get my Quest 2 controllers to work in gamepad mode.
Hello!
Topic: Fallout 3 Controller Bug
After switching from Lounge to Full VR mode in Fallout 3 (looks and runs fantastic with FO3 @ 4K, thanks!) I have been plagued with one problem; numerous functions of my XBox controller no longer function after the Direct VR scan.
