bjr84ParticipantSo, naturally, I post this issue late in troubleshooting and I end up getting it to work hours after posting… The fix was the same fix as that for Half-Life 2 that others are experiencing now (Fall 2019); run the game without SteamVR running.
So open Steam & Vorpx (didn’t play with this order but I’m sure either way is fine), have the xbox one controller turned on and connected to PC (for me, via bluetooth) and simply run the game from Steam. Allow SteamVR to open itself (vorpx will hook to the exe as well at that time); select options on the splash-screen, and enjoy (FINALLY!!).
(I was having trouble with Half-Life 2 and reviewing the forum gave me the idea to try running without SteamVR running and it solved my Half-Life 2 problems as well. Hopefully this lasts long enough for me to play these games :)

RalfKeymasterPlease check with the latest version and ideally not with Windows 7 (although it should still work). As mentioned above the game has been tested with 19.2.4. Quite rigorously actually since 19.2.4 contains a performance related change for Half-Life 2.
BTW: Neither Oculus supports Windows 7 officially anymore nor does Valve for the Index headset. Anyone still on Windows 7 should slowly start to consider the possibility of both runtime vendors finally phasing out Windows 7 support completely. The only remaining question in this regard is when it will happen. My guess would be sometime next year after the official Windows 7 end of life.

RalfKeymasterWith all due respect, that is not a good advice. Half-Life 2 works terrific. Full 90fps practically guaranteed + perfect 100% memory scanner DirectVR with FOV and full tracking support. One of the games that even have basic roomscale support.
To avoid flicker you just have to follow the on-screen instructions shown in the top left corner of the desktop window and use a 4:3 resolution, eg. 1600×1200 or 1920×1440. With other aspect ratios (like your 16:9), the FOV will flicker.
For better readable menus (like always with small font menus) simply switch to EdgePeek mode while using the menu. No problem at all. Alternatively you could scale up the HUD, of course, but switching to EdgePeek for using menus is the better solution.

RalfKeymasterNot a known issue. Half-Life 2 and Black Mesa were both checked with the latest version before release.
If vorpX does not hook into the games, please first try to enable (or disable if you currently have it enabled) alternative hooking in the config app. Please note that the alternative method should only be used in case of problems with a specific game. It‘s not better, just different.
If that doesn‘t help, please check for anything that may prevent vorpX from hooking into games. The pinned trouble shooting guide above lists potential candidates.

vorpX 19.2.4 has been released.This is a maintenance release with the below changes and fixes.
New/Changed:
- New D3D9 font renderer: fixes severe FPS degradation (up to 70%) during the first minutes (while the start hint is shown) with Half-Life 2, Portal, The Darkness II and possibly other D3D9 games.
- Improved D3D11 G3D heuristics (~30% G3D performance gain in Blair Witch).
- Improved binary settings file support for the DirectVR settings optimizer.
Bugfixes:
- G3D camera height modifier should now always work again without positional tracking. Please note that the setting may behave different with/without positional tracking enabled in some cases.
- Settings for official profiles could not be uploaded anymore in the config app.
- Final headset render target size re-evaluated when the game resolution changes. Fixes low render target size in games that open a small window on start before switching to full res.
New Game Profiles:
- Blair Witch: G3D/Z3D, FullVR, scalable 3D HUD, DirectVR: FOV, resolution, tracking.

JAYSHARPXParticipantI’ve been enjoying vorpx for non native vr games but have run into some frustration, so this question is just for my curiosity.
Let’s say I have 2 games (for example fear and half-life 2), both look similar, both use horizontal plus or vertical minus fov, and both have similar world scale in 2d. Why would they look different with identical resolution and fov settings in vorpx?
I know nothing about 3d transform, and I know direct vr largely midigates these issues. But is there something else that explains these differences?

neodraigParticipantSorry I’m late to the party but using a nVidia card might be better with vorpX.
If your card is powerful enough and you want to use higher resolutions with vorpX, with a AMD card you will be limited to the native resolution of your monitor and won’t be able to go higher. If you’re using a 4K monitor it’s not a problem, but if it is a 1080p display then it will be.
You can partially address this problem by using VSR, but if you’re aiming for for the highest resolution, then games like Half-Life 2 or Portal will keep flickering as vorpX prefers square resolutions.
With nVidia cards you don’t have that problem as you can create any virtual resolutions you want (not limited by the resolution of your monitor).I used to have an AMD card (I’m rather an
ATIAMD guy), but now that I have a nVidia card, it’s easier tu use vorpX.On the other hand I now have Samsung Qled TV set that has VRR but nVidia cards don’t support VRR over HDMI, AMD cards do.

RalfKeymasterThat’s not quite as important anymore for modern games as it used to be. Most games these days use low latency mouse input with almost as little latency as memory scanner head tracking. The memory scanner is still quite a bit better for other reasons, but the advantage isn’t as huge with most newer games.

RalfKeymasterPlease check my earlier replies in this thread. There isn’t really anything more I can suggest to try. Half-Life 2 is tested on a regular basis and works fine in general, unfortunately I cannot replicate the issue.
If that isn’t the case, please also make sure to use the Steam version of the game. Outdated CD versions are not supported and I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t work.

EpicDimensionParticipantok, I changed the cable for an hdmi one, and i got no more problems with fullscreen games, mainly because there is no screen-clones now. But i cannot play yet with the default profile to any Hl2 mods. First: Hl2.exe does not hook until i download the profile [vorpx] from the cloud. Then: Playing with that profile gives me a black screen in the vive. I also downloaded the profile for Portal2 and tried to play with it, and It Works !
I tried to play hl2 with that profile, but i have to rename the game (to hl4.exe) then I applied the Portal2 profile (a copy) and was able to play, but there is not DirectVR. I thought it was maybe due to another process hooking to hl2.exe but not hl4.exe but i tried to play with a copy of the Hl2 profile, and i got the same result as before: Black Screen.
So, for anyone that can fix this: Portal 2 profile and Half-Life 2 ones, have some difference that is causing this. I can’t go any deeper because there is no shader tool or expert settings i can see, when applying the Hl2 profile.

jjenssonParticipantI agree that VorpX is what saves VR for me, for the time being. Almost none of the current native VR games is interesting to me. I’m not interested in demos, wave shooters and short experiences. I want long story driven games, expansive RPGs with exploration, things like Mass Effect, The Witcher, Skyrim, Half-Life (2), Unreal etc etc. We’ll have to wait for those for sure, but at least 2019 shows that VR is gaining speed now.

RalfKeymasterYour logfile only contains an entry for Day of Defeat, not Half-Life 2. While the game also uses a hl2.exe, there is no guarantee that it works with the Half-Life 2 profile. The Day of Defeat hl2.exe is probably very different from the .exe of the actual Half-Life 2 since it was forked a long time ago.
Please check whether the issue also occurs with Half-Life 2. The actual Half-Life 2 should still work fine.
Apart from that try to run the game windowed if you didn’t try that already. That can help sometimes with display issues.
In regard to potentially interfering background programs the best thing you can do is closing everything and check whether your issue still occurs. If not, re-enable your background programs one by one to see what caused the issue.

This might not meet your fullVR qualifier, but Blackwake is one I grabbed for $6 that looks great in 3D. I posted about it here. I do recommend the fore mentioned War of Rights, if you have a strong PC that is. Both good ones you can play online with others.
Also, for anyone looking for some way to celebrate Independence day in vorpX this week, check out Battle Grounds III. The Revolutionary War FPS mod from Half-Life 2 returns new and improved to steam this week, and is standalone free to play. The game show’s it’s age a bit, but is good for a couple hours of fun with people returning from years ago.
Anyway, I’m sure there’s more good ones to find with a week to go. Keep them coming.

I’ve been enjoying vorpx for non native vr games but have run into some frustration, so this question is just for my curiosity.
