Thanks Ralf for the response, I wish it was that simple though. I’ve rebooted, reinstalled VorpX entirely even (sorry for sending another key request with out need) , reset all game profiles, re-installed the game, went forward and back on SteamVR to SteamVR beta. I’m going to describe the best I can, when I don’t move my head it’s most noticeable. The entire screen slightly has a constant shake every second or so like a pulse. It happens when setting the Head Tracking Multiplier up, and goes away completely only when it is at zero. It happened after I imported a custom FEAR profile (which I played through on VorpX just fine w/out this issue) to FEAR extraction point and now all games do it. I’m starting to think something happened to the Logitech mouse and it is doing something to the dpi or head tracking. I’ve lowered the sensitivity to no affect. When I get home I plan to continue trouble shooting by first trying FEAR again the original and also trying a different mouse, but same thing happens with the xbox gamepad. It’s really hard to tell if it’s the entire image that jitters like that or the head-movement. Thanks.

A few more games I’ve tried:

Bioshock 1 RE: Works great, but once you get inside Rapture you notice game hands flip a bit, not game breaking but a bit annoying, maybe it will work better with some weapons over others. It also crashed to desktop at one point, i’m really pushing it with 2700p and everything on though.

Hard Reset: Works great, no issues.

Quake 4: Works great, no issues, but wow is this game ugly, it really aged badly.

Return to Castle Wolfestain : Wow, this game really surprised me, perfect scale, really immersive, silk smooth performance, doesn’t look bad even so many years later. Still it gets some clipping at the edges of the screen, maybe it can be tweaked.

Tron 2.0: Scale was wrong, maybe it would look better by tweaking FOV, i just didn’t bother.

Stanley Parable: Works great, no issues, performance could be better though for such simple graphics.

Fallout 2.9 – The Fall: Last Days of Gaia (G3D)

I freaked out today when i saw this game with VorpX. If your’an early Fallout fan, you may try this one out. Its about like a Fallout 2.X, but in a 3D environment. Of coarse you cant compare graphics with Fallout 3, but..

    – Make a shortcut to thefall.exe and add -o , treat this shortcut as a seperate config app. When changing resolution above 1920×1080 you need to experiment until you find a proper resolution because some settings destroy menus. Though 1920×1080 will be sufficient for Cinema Mode at Medium Screen size
    – Start game with thefall.exe as usual
    – If background depth (same as HUD) is annoying you, reset Focal OFFset.
    – Tested with non DRM version from german “Hardwae” magazine 1/2009.
    – Profile availiable from the cloud

Taking screenshots wasnt very sussesful, because resolution wasnt very high for this test.

    Merry Christmas !

If you are new to vorpX, you probably want to hop right into the action instead of learning how to configure vorpX. The list below contains first person games that work with litlle to no configuration in ‘Full VR’ due to vorpX’s DirectVR functionality, which can configure important things like field of view, head tracking or resolution automatically.

For third person games that are usually played best in immersive screen or cinema mode not much configuration is required in general, so this list focuses on first person ‘Full VR’ games that can be a little harder to configure without DirectVR.

If you are stuck, make sure to check the ‘Essential Hints Guide’ and the ‘Quick Reference’ in the help. They help you understand a few basic concepts.

    hi,

i was like you at first, i just experienced things little by little and now i’m comfortable with vorpx, been using it since more than 2 years i think, but i needed much more less time than this to get how this works.

you should do just the same, you cant break things (i mean you wont break your hardware) and if vorpx is all messed up you can just do a full factory reset in vorpx trouble shooting section.

as for tutorial video, i think you can find some “tutorial” on youtube, not official tutorials tho, just some users made videos, just google it.

and if you have any questions, just ask here, we’ll be glad to help you ^^

Can someone tell what FPS has physically has to do with motion sickness ? I have started (ok, not the best game to start off) with HARD RESET. Motion sickness came up only when i started moving fast, especially sideways. When standing tall and stoped running i noticed my body shaking back and forward to compensate the sudden stop of the body. But there was nothing to compansate. That was weird. In my eyes the sickness simply is a matter of movements which the brain cant cope with. I havent noticed any flickering or so during that.

Since some people seem to have problems to run “The Witcher 3” properly, I want to give my optimal settings for a GTX 1080 (@ 2 GHz), i7-6700K (@ 4,4 GHz) system.

    Public profile
You can find the public profile under the nickname “Amylion”. It’s a virtual 3D cinema for 4:3 aspect ratio (e.g. 1920 x 1440) with black borders (no ambience). The stereoscopic effect is enhanced both in strength and distance weighting. That leads to a strong 3D effect with minimal distortion at the contours; the drawback is a diminished difference in depth effect on close objects. The black borders are important, because the fresnel lenses of current VR devices sadly amplify bright spots in the periphery overproportionally.

    Resolution
    The recommended resolution is 1920 x 1440.
Contrary to some rumours it doesn’t actually translate to supersampling. If you run native SteamVR apps at a Supersampling factor of 1 (that means without real supersampling at the center of the display), the app will render in 1512 x 1680 for each eye!
1920 x 1440 is comparable, because the virtual cinema doesn’t cover the whole field of view. But if you go lower than that, the pixels in the center of the image will get stretched and look bad!

    In-game settings

    Post-processing
    Motion Blur: Off
    Blur: On
    Anti-aliasing: On
    Bloom: On
    Sharpening: Low
    Ambient Occlusion: HBAO+
    Depth of Field: On
    Chromatic Aberration: Off
    Vignetting: On

    Graphics
    VSync: Off
    Maximum FPS: Unlimited
    Resolution: 1920 x 1440
    Display Mode: Fullscreen
    Preserve System Gamma: Off
    NVIDIA Hairworks: On
    NVIDIA Hairworks AA: 0
    NVIDIA Hairworks Preset: Low
    Number of Background Characters: High
    Shadow Quality: High
    Terrain Quality: Ultra
    Water Quality: Ultra
    Grass Density: Medium
    Texture Quality: Ultra
    Foliage Visibility Range: Medium
    Detail Level: Ultra
    Hardware Cursor: On

    Gamma setting
The biggest issue are the gamma settings. It seems to be bugged. Even the highest in-game gamma settings are way too dark. Most details get lost in almost every scene, especially in dark in-door rooms with some light sources like candles.

You have to manually edit the “user.settings” file in the “The Witcher 3” folder in your Windows documents folder.

Set the “GammaValue=1.0” to “GammaValue=2.0”. Start the game normally for a quick test. It should look very bright and washed out (sometimes it fails to load the configuration properly), but in the headset it will look normal (= great).

    Input
In the same folder you can edit “input.settings” file to change the inputs that for some mysterious reason are locked in the in-game UI. For example I put the inventory on my Mouse5 button.

These settings will work flawlessly on a system with a GTX 1080. You probably can even go higher in some areas (shadows or grass / foliage).

    Have fun!

    Hi all,

First time post but I’ve had VorpX for a while now.

Anyway, I’m this close to having a perfect Skyrim VR setup but to keep the frames up constantly I need it running in Z-Normal or Adaptive. However, only Geometry works.

It’s hard to explain but the entire bottom and the entire right side (about a third of the screen) is unviewable, it’s just a mess of lines. I can see colour move as I move but what’s there is just a constant blur. What I can see of the screen looks and runs great, but the bottom and right don’t. I can switch back to Geometry. reset and it has the full screen back but then also the performance hit that comes with it…

I’ve set it up the normal way, DirectVR works, hooking isn’t an issue, it’s just an blur on the bottom of the screen…

Any advice on what could be causing this? Any other info, I can provide it.

I tested True ENB with Skyrim because somebody complained elsewhere that it doesn’t work and it worked. With the brightness of the game set to the lowest possible value it actually looked quite nice in the HMD. The problem is – 15 fps hit. Outdoors it dropped from about 30 to 15 fps. How do you optimize the ENB preset to not hit the game so hard, especially working with 3D Geometry?

    Hello everyone,
I’ve done my share of googling and research about vorpx settings, but I haven’t had much luck with my particular problem so I’m making a thread on it. Essentially, my gpu load is around 35% and my cpu under half load with a framerate hovering around or above 80fps a little bit on my rift. I have a framerate counter displayed on my monitor along with gpu and cpu loads all from afterburner. This is pretty annoying, but better than the 45 fps with the vorpx fluid setting (I disabled that). It also has the occasional hiccup while running lightly like this so far as well with some noticeable stutter. I can see the stuttering from the 80 fps and really feel it when moving around.

    My rig:
Gtx 1080 TI with a small overclock
    I5 4690k overclocked to 4.5ghz
    16gb ddr3 ram
    Oculus rift cv1

I’m just trying to figure out what settings to look at to increase the load on my rig because I’m still in the vault with this framerate.

My settings: (not at my gaming rig atm, but I’ll update when I am)
Resolution – set to what vorpx suggested (1280×1024 IIRC)
Geometry 3D mode because the others flickered or caused other graphical glitches.
In-game graphics are set the highest because of how old this game is asides from anti-aliasing.
The only settings I played with were the 3D effect and camera things, so I don’t think that would affect the fps at all really.

If there are some other settings needed for a full diagnosis then just ask for them. Everything else I reset to default for the most part anyway.

Some other issues I’ve been struggling to solve:
FOV – I tried the suggested 110 FOV in the console in-game, but that didn’t seem to do much. Should I be looking at resolution or field of view changes in the game to adjust this best? I was playing with the settings a lot to tweak this. I’m seeing from my googling that I should use edge peak to use my pipboy. Should this also be applying to conversations? Because I am way in their personal space haha.
I’m assuming my 5:4 aspect ratio isn’t helping and creating a proper 8:9 ratio will reduce the zooming I see? I see a noticeable amount on the side in wrap mode that I normally don’t see.

Aiming – What’s the best way to get the shooting to line up with the cursor? I’m hoping that when I was playing with settings I just broke this and it’s an easy fix. Shooting the bb gun at the start was insanely hard and I had to get quite close and aim up to the left to make the hits I needed to progress.

After I have dealt with this framerate issue, what should I look at for the best leap in in-game graphics? Should I be increasing the resolution past the oculus rift’s resolution or look at supersampling? (not sure which is optimal for overall graphical improvement). Should I figure out how to create an 8:9 resolution and just increase the resolution to be a multiple of that to the point my graphics card is close to max utilization? I don’t see nvidia control panel anymore, so either I find a version of it or maybe the new GeForce experience allows for doing that. I’ll have to do research on this.

My game is still vanilla with no mods until I sort out these issues. I’m hoping a nice texture pack will help pretty the game up a bit, but the game look quite beautiful already considering its age.

The 3D effect works great in the game (except talking to people heheh) and this is going to be a blast once I figure out how to tweak the game.

Thank you to all kind souls willing to lend me a hand. I just got vorpx and this is my first game, so I’m a scrub at it haha. I’ll apply what I learn here to other games in the future.

I waited until the game went on a decent sale before I pounced. I’m glad I did because it gave Ralf time to do his magic. I bought RE7 this weekend and I am having a BLAST! What a great game and what a great VorpX profile. Worked right out of the gate and I have very little bad to say. The only pesky items are the filters when you get a lot of blood on your “face” or when in the “video” scenes as it looks like you are holding a pieces of glass a foot in front of your face and the “effects” are just on the glass. No biggie and certainly not a show stopper. I also wish I could lock the mouse-look like in Direct VR profiles so I couldn’t look up or down with the mouse but that just takes practice. I get so scared sometimes that I find my neck at weird angles after a fight or flight situation that it takes me a few seconds to reset my position back to normal. Thanks for all your hard work Ralf, and thanks for making it possible to play these great games in VR.

I never had it. When I tried it last week the geometry never did really kick in. Z3d was much better when i tried it. Maybe the same issue, hopefully. I would like to see geometry in GTA5 but so far i get nothing. Admittedly I didn’t mess around with resets and all as you did so maybe I just have to work a little harder to get it to work on my system.

I am buying a new i7 7700 and gtx 1080 ti system and would love to be able to use gta in geometry with that.

Do i have to activate Direct VR for RE7 or is it automatically enabled?
I’m playing it with my Vive in a side room of my pc room and using only the vive controller. It’s hard to startup and config without keyboard and mouse next to you.
It would be great to have an option an the controllers to reset the position.

    I can’t launch “configure vorpX”.
when I right click VorpX Control’s tray in a taskbar it shows 5 options as normal:
    -Configure vorpX
    -Show Help
    -Pause Watcher
    -Create Desktop Shortcut
    -Exit
Only Configure vorpX option doesn’t work, it brings up nothing when I click it (but if I click it and then press ALt;space on my keyboard it lets me move an invisible window). I use HTC vive and have latest updates.
I installed vorpX 2 days ago and first time I clicked configure vorpX, it launched… I closed it immediately then launched a game that brought some error: “vorpx could not initialize your oculus rift. It reported: LibOVRRT signature check failure. (-30xx)” … after that I couldn’t launch Configure vorpX option. I reinstalled the program but now it doesn’t let me to launch configure vorpX from start (didn’t help me, stayed same). Then I installed dual-boot windows 10(with my old win7). “configure vorpX” button worked and I changed from oculus to vive. I again launched my old game from harddrive. it mirrored the game to the vive display but then I clicked configure vorpX and it stoped working forever again, not even mirroring the game to vive display. I reinstaled vorpX on my new windows 10 and “configure vorpX” doesn’t work from start plus “vorpx could not initialize your oculus rift. It reported: LibOVRRT signature check failure. (-30xx)” error is back (I guess becuase it reset it from vive to oculus). I factor reset windows 10 and still same from start. I reinstalled windows 10 but now register@vorpx.com doesn’t sends me the key, so I’m stuck.
how can I troubleshoot the problem? and is there a data folder that I can delete for clean install? maybe theres some registries that can let me switch from oculus to vive.

The best way to launch games is launching them directly from your desktop, through Steam/Uplay/Origin etc., not through any app launcher that runs on the headset.

If everything looks “ultra close”, you did not change the field of view (FOV). How that can be done varies from to game. You find a list of options in this regard in the Essential Hints Guide in the vorpX help, which I would strongly suggest to read. This guide explains three very important things that you need to do for each game once.

For Skyrim SE enhancing the FOV is done by typing “fov 120 20” into the game’s console. Check the !Usage.txt inside the ZIP file with the profile for full instructions and make sure to follow them completely, otherwise the profile will not work as intended.

On a sidenote: The original Skyrim in most cases works better with vorpX, so it probably makes sense to use that instead of the Special Edition.

    TL:DR:
Still not working, too much of a headache, don’t have time for all this – how do I get my refund? Thank you.

    FULL POST:

If needed: My Specs (MSI laptop):
    MSI GT80S 6QF
    Intel Core i7-6920HQ
GTX 980 Desktop Class (Dual SLI) 8GB DDR5 (each)
    1TB 7200RPM + 512G SSD (Super Raid)
    32G Ram DDR4

    Still not working.

    ISSUE: (Wash, Rinse, Repeat)
    1) Launched game via steam client
    2) It comes up in my Vive headset,
    3) I then tinker with delete options to fix the extreme closeness
4)While in main screen, console command ~ and type in “FOV 120 120″ can’t read words that appeared after I hit enter, unlegible – so I ignore it
    5) I start up the game – it crashes.

Prior to buying this software, I checked around first (I’m new to VR and PC gaming as of September 2016) I watched some youtube videos and forums. I honestly did not have any expectations, I knew this is a small indie dev. Enough respect there. However, I then researched some more in reddit and found this guy saying:

[–]Fredthehound 1 point 2 months ago
Sky Remasttered will work on VorpX. Ralf (VorpX creator) mentioned it a while back. It might be a short time for the official support till he gets it sorted but IIRC he said the F4 setting will probably cover it till then
Avyually using it is fairly straight forward. You launch Steam/Steam VR, Launch VorpX, Launch VorpX config, Select Skyrim Preset, save, then launch Skyrim.
The standardpreset will get you there and then it’s all tweaking to prefrence. Once you het a handle on how it all works out of the box…Use as much supersampling inside VorpX as your computer can handle and in skyrim’s ini file, set the highest resolution your computer/vive can handle.
You will QUICKLY find that you don’t have as much power as you wish you had. I have a Titan XP and a clocked 4790K and I am saving for Titan #2 because of it.
You will not regret the effort, or the money you throw at this.

    and he also said:

Fredthehound 7 points 5 months ago*
    Open VorpX
    Select the Skyrim ‘preset’
    Launch SteamVR
    Launch VorpX
    Launch Skyrim
    Open VorpX menu
    Change Mouse accel to off
Set 3d sliders (both) to 30
    Set zoom to 68-71
    Learn to use ‘Edge Peek”
    Play Skyrim.
Thats how hard VorpX is to make work great with Skyrim.

    All in this thread:

Is anyone working on a Skyrim for Vive mod?
    byu/TheYang inVive

Thus, my intentions were pure “hey let me support this indie dev and buy the software if it’s really that easy or some “minor” tinkering. (No one really explains how frustrating or headache inducing this can be) I am not a deep techie, surface techie only.

Now that I have VorpX, I must honestly say, this is horrible – for me. Two days now and not working (I bought it just for Skyrim SE) I don’t own OG Skyrim and don’t intend on purchasing it.

I really don’t have time to sit here and go through the hurdles this thing is throwing at me. My time is limited as is to put that much effort into this. I’ll just wait for Fallout 4 VR next year, even if it turns out to be horrible.

I say all that to say this, I appreciate what this software can do for those that have the time to sit there all day and tinker. Kudos. For those like me, time is precious so off time we use it to enjoy, Stay Away. Respectfully, how do I go about getting a refund for this?
