Are you only interested in isometric RPGs, or do you enjoy other RPGs?

I enjoy many of the classic-style isometric RPGs, but also enjoy many of the newer ones. Probably the best “blend” of traditional and new was Dragon Age Origins, which I would whole-heartedly recommend even to people who “only like real isometric-style RPGs. Other than that one things go non-traditional pretty quickly, but if you can adjust don’t hesitate to try the rest of the Dragon Age series, the Mass Effect series, Fallout 3, NV, and 4, or even Skyrim (not a very good RPG, but a nice open world wandering-around kind of thing), and don’t forget Witcher 2 and 3. All good, or even great, RPGs that you might enjoy.

Oh, and I don’t know if it will work with VorpX, I’m not quite there yet, but NWN2 is still a fairly good RPG even by today’s standards, and it did work with TriDef so there is at least some chance you can get it to work with VorpX.

I agree that VorpX is what saves VR for me, for the time being. Almost none of the current native VR games is interesting to me. I’m not interested in demos, wave shooters and short experiences. I want long story driven games, expansive RPGs with exploration, things like Mass Effect, The Witcher, Skyrim, Half-Life (2), Unreal etc etc. We’ll have to wait for those for sure, but at least 2019 shows that VR is gaining speed now.

    Hey guys,

So i saw the thread about the first person mass effect Andromeda mod and decided it would be fun to try – but the vorpx profile is breaking the sound not just in the game, but my entire computer. Ive launched the game multiple times without Vorpx – no sound problems… I hook vorpx in and the audio is crackling and even after i CLOSE vorpx and ME Andromeda my audio is still crackling.

Ive already done a full uninstall/reinstall of all my audio drivers to try to fix this so theyre as fresh as they can be… but yeah, its weird – it starts when i launch vorpx + Andromeda… but even after closing both, the crackling audio keeps going in apps like spotify or on youtube.

does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this? Thanks for any help

and just fyi – the modder put up his new FPS mod on nexus earlier, so its back up and ready to play

Edit: I actually just tried closing vorpx from the tab bar and then the audio problems went away.. so killing vorpx entirely after launching ME:A fixes the audio for the overall pc. i was mistaken.. but i still need a way to make it work in game.

Whoa didn’t know that, thanks a lot for the info, I never finished the game either so I’ll give it a go.

Also mass effect 2 recently got a first person mod too and it’s actually very good with Vorpx, and if I understood moadepht there’s a working first person mod for me3 that works on Vorpx? I really have to get a Mass Effect vr replay at some point, a pity that apparently me1 has no first person mod afaik to make the whole run.

    vorpX 19.2.1 has been released.

This is a maintenance release, mostly focusing on fixing a few issues that have been identified since 19.2.0. Also some minor improvements have been added, most notably automatic audio switching for Rift S.

    New/Changed:

    • Rift S audio switching support.
    • D3D9 improvements, may help in unsupported DX9 games that use state blocks.
    • D3D11 compatibility improvements
    • The actual value is shown for settings that are set to ‘Device Default’
    • vorpX shortcuts launch programs without hooking if the watcher is disabled.
    • To deal with Pimax’s new ‘Compatible With Vive Only Games’ setting a warning is shown if the headset is detected as Vive while Pimax software is running.
    • No more ~5 seconds hooking delay after a clean game exit. Now only delayed if a game hangs.

    Bugfixes:

    • D3D9 Z3D pipeline init was incomplete (vorpX 18.1.5 regression).
    • D3D9 Z3D HUD scaling was not working anymore in some games despite the feature being available.
    • Z3D did not work anymore in various games when loading pre 19.1.0 profiles.
    • Fixed a rare crash condition that could occur occasionally with multithreaded games during init.
    • Game settings changed by DirectVR weren’t always saved for Metro: Exodus

    Game Profile Changes/Fixes:

    • The Long Dark: Geometry 3D was broken after game update, 3D HUD added
    • Tomb Raider Anniversary: fixed sea water glitch
    • Mass Effect 1-3: default to immersive screen mode now instead of cinema
    • Z3D base paramaters adjusted for various profiles

In reply to: Nvidia driver crashes

I have been using VorpX without any issues for at least 1 year. GPU boost was never a problem before

GPU boost will automatically boost to an overclock – are you saying to downclock the card?

I have tested with Furmark and Kombuster. Kombuster in particular alternates between hitting max boost due to voltage limit and no load conditions and does not find any artifacts and the driver does not crash – Load is at 100% with the same boost clock as Vorpx achieves.

However driver crash with Vorpx at around 90% load with Mass Effect Andromeda.

I will downclock to play.. but I used to play Mass Effect Andromeda in Vorpx using G3D before the Vorpx update and there was no problem..

PS the driver crash (which freezes the computer) happens reliably when switching from G3d to Z3d in game. Sometimes, it just crashes after a certain amount of time (unpredicatable)

Windows 10 1809 Nvidia driver 430.86 (latest) also happened with previous driver 425.31

Anyone else noticed an increase in driver crashes? Never used to happen until, the latest VorpX update for me.

Getting them with mass effect andromeda g3d especially.

Happened with the last and current Nvidia drivers.

    I have a water cooled 1080ti

    Hello, loving VorpX.

I guess I am a little confused about the global SteamVR Super-sampling setting when pertaining to VorpX. Does the SS setting apply to all games hooked by VorpX? I seem to not have any effect and even smashed the SS setting down to .20 to see and the 3 games I tried looked identical. Interestingly the VorpX menu resolution was effected but not the game in Mass Effect. I’m curious if there is a way to hook games from Origins for example as well, since there is no SteamVR?

I figured it out and thought I’d share my experience, in case it helps someone.

After install, opened config program and chose a game profile and applied, opened vorpx, started the game… and nothing happened. No feedback of any kind, working or no. Confusing.

per the instructions, I removed virus protection, killed nvidia experience, killed creative cloud, killed epic launcher, and anything that was not necessary. Disabled the integrated graphics also. ready for the second attempt!

did the config program and started vorpx again. started the game… and this time a little window comes up saying ‘vorpx attaching to masseffectandromeda.exe’ Yay, something is happening! on the computer screen, there was a vorpx logo in the game window, more evidence that vorpx is doing something. Unfortunately in the odyssey+ HMD it was all black. I could hear the game in the HMD’s speakers, but couldn’t see.

I reactivated the integrated graphics and tried again, and it worked!

Hope this helps someone, because once it works, it’s awesome!

I also opened the configuration program and chose ‘mass effect andromeda’. When I hit apply, there was no visible feedback that it was applied, so i assumed it worked.

Hi, hope someone can help. Just bought odyssey+ so I could use vorpx. Can’t get it to work.

Here are the steps i took:
-installed steam vr, windows mixed reality for steam vr, and got superhot to work on steam vr. (yay)
-installed vorpx – chose wmr headset, chose mass effect andromeda profile and clicked “apply and close”
-started vorpx – message popped up saying it was already running
-started mass effect andromeda. it loads as normal.
-put odyssey+ on and the windows cliff house shows up on screen?!

    What am I missing?

    Thanks in advance.

Hey, I’m trying to set up an ME1 profile. When I loaded up the given profile, it has a LOT of problems. It’s using geometry rendering and cinema view. The cinema view fits well with the 3rd person perspective, but I’ve noticed a lot of trouble with the rendering:
    1) Dialog cut scenes are terrors. The near plane is so close that I can’t resolve characters – they’re stuck as two images while my eyes want to kill me. Even the farthest characters in dialogs are impossible to look at.
    2) I get frequent black artifacts in distant areas. As an example, the first time you see a reaper ship, right at the start of the game, I couldn’t really see it because half the sky was always covered by an opaque black sheet. Very frustrating!

As there’s no specific near-plane setting in the in-game config for geometry rendering, the most I can do is lower the 3D multiplier, move the virtual screen further away, and change the FOV. I can get the cut-scenes to look good, but then during gameplay, I’m practically playing a 2D game and the virtual screen is much farther away than I’d like.

I tried the normal and adaptive Z rendering, but no matter what I do to the settings, even after game reboots, I can’t see any 3D-ness. I’m just watching a 2D game in a virtual space.

After 1.5hrs of testing and tweaking, I just can’t find settings that lets me comfortably play ME1. Any suggestions?
