SirChancelotxParticipantJust for perspective, regarding Sickness and Skyrim. I have logged over 100 hours on Skyrim in Vorpx on my DK2 with no motion sickness. Yes it really depends on the individual but I also think it is something you can acclimate to.
Now GTA is another story. That one can catch me at random times even though I do not think the frame rate is that much different. Probably the fast motion vs plodding in Skyrim. Oh and Vanishing of Ethan Carter also doesn’t go too well even with my iron stomach.
Anyway I am looking forward as well to enjoying Skyrim with both the CV1 for its supposed improved visuals as well as trying out the Viv. It would be neat if someone created a teleport mod for Skyrim so you could walk around. As it is you can stand up and DK2 tracks you somewhat. Your head can move anywhere your wire can reach while walking. It just that your body doesn’t follow..lol Now someone should be able to fix that? right?
Nice. I am happy to hear that about Skyrim, maybe it won’t be an issue for me also. As for a teleport mod they actually have one, you point and cast as a spell and you teleport like you do in the photogrammetry thing.
Thanks for the heads up on Skyrim! :)

SirChancelotxParticipantI saw Sirchancealot made an account just to post so I figured I would too. Just like him ever since Vive release I’ve been lurking for news. I’m so excited to play legacy games on Vive with the VR twist.
I know they’re not roomscale and don’t have motion controls, I would actually prefer they didn’t. I don’t think a majority of people who want Vorpx for Vive want that stuff. Two members of my family and my close friend all have Vive’s pre-ordered and they’re all excited to play Fallout and Skyrim in VR. So am I.
I won’t ask for a release date or anything, I’m sure you’re working on it and it will be ready when it’s ready but a hint of a timeline would be a nice treat.
I didn’t make an account just to post ;) I am a proud owner of Vorpx :) just waiting for my Vive update :D

SirChancelotxParticipantThanks for the warning and the tips, but I will risk throwing up all over my computer if that is what it has to take to play Skyrim on the Vive!
Hehehe fair enough :) then tip number 2:
Disable all mods, specifically ENB. They can make VorpX either not work or they cause issues in the game
Apr 24, 2016 at 1:15pm #101353In reply to: Skyrim performance (gtx 970) tips?
lipplogParticipantThe issue may not be VorpX, but Skyrim itself. It’s code is infamously a mess, which is why it’s one of the most modded gams out there. So the good news is that you can mod most of your performance issues away. The bad news is there is a learning curve to modding. Here’s a good place to start…

SirChancelotxParticipantPSA for everyone waiting for Vorpx Vive support:
If you have not tried a FPS in VR before as a seated experience ( Vorpx will not and will never make Skyrim roomscale for those who did not know ), motion sickness is a very real possibility, even if you have an iron stomach. I never used a DK2 or had any other experience before my Vive came and have absolutely no problem with Motion sickness when it comes to native Vive games (no history of any prior motion sickness IRL either). In preparation for Skyrim VR, I tried The vanishing of Ethan Carter VR sold on Steam and from the beginning of the game something just felt “wrong”. I wanted to experience a similar situation that I would find myself in with Fallout and Skyrim. I , more or less, was fine for the first 15 min. I thought I was good to go until I stepped inside a house and then I had to take the HMD off. Everything in my gut, neck and back of my head just felt “sour”.
Long story short if you don’t have any experience with VR motion sickness, read up on it. Buy some ginger Ale and Ginger chews. I bought some Dramamine just in case because I don’t want anything to ruin the fun. Just trying to keep anyone from having a bad first experience if they aren’t prepared. :)

RalfKeymasterShort update since this thread receives quite a few hits:
We’re one step closer, but not yet 100% there. vorpX’s custom async timewarp is now working good enough to handle short dips below 45fps almost glitch free. Not perfect, but a lot better than without.
What does that mean for you?
It’s now possible to play rather performance hungry games like Skyrim or Fallout 4 in Geometry 3D on a GTX970 with a Vive by sacrificing some image quality. If you can live with image quality similar to a Rift DK1, Geometry 3D with positional tracking (seated!) is now viable in most performance hungry games. Switching to Z3D allows full quality on such a machine, so there now really is a choice if a game supports both modes – even for games that need a lot of CPU/GPU.
Games that don’t put so much stress on your PC work at full quality with Geometry 3D if available without problems, of course. Just in case anyone wondered.
What remains to be done are mainly a few longer play tests and some docs and ingame hints regarding performance optimization to leave noone in the dark about what can be done to play games that are a bit difficult to handle.
Stay tuned. Fingers crossed that nothing big shows up during play testing.

dellrifter22ParticipantMake sure you have Steam in game overlay disabled, Uplay overlay disabled for Ubisoft games, and close anything like fraps or radeonpro. (to see framerate in vorpx push Alt+f). Also make sure your not using any sweetfx or enb directly.
For me on my DK2, the oculus load screen would tell me “problems loading Skyrim.exe”, but if i waited a few seconds I could hear the game start up in the background. Screen would fade to black, and then if I waited 10 or so seconds the game menu would finally appear. Maybe try just waiting a minute to see if your black screen eventually comes on.

RalfKeymasterThat’s not really feasible for a number of reasons unfortunately.
The most important one is that most games would be totally unplayable this way since your graphical position would be different from the position that the game uses for player position related calculations. Hope that makes sense.
Another issue is that typical game environments are simply too large. Even if you have a relatively large VR space, let’s say 4x4m, that wouldn’t help much to move freely in a landmass the size of Skyrim or even your typical Call of Duty level.
There may be ways and workarounds for some of these issues in some games, and that will be explored later for a few important titles, but I won’t promise anything in this regard.
If you want to roam large levels and open worlds in a way that works straight forward and for most games, a locomotion platform is the way to go, not room scale VR.

RalfKeymasterPete, I think it’s enough now. I’m a patient man, but consider this a serious troll warning. You made your point and you made it more than often and more than clear enough.
Noone ever promised anything like room scale VR for hundreds of games that weren’t even made for VR. The recommendation for all games will be playing seated. And there will also be ingame hints about this. Technical considerations aside, common sense will probably tell most people that Skyrim won’t fit into their living rooms.
It’s also probably obvious to almost everyone that rendering a game twice for stereoscopic 3D is a lot more demanding than rendering once on the monitor. This has been the case since there are stereo injectors, which means for about 15 years. It’s not unique to vorpX in any way.
It’s also not unique to vorpX to provide an optional Z-Buffer based solution to address exactly this issue. All major 3D-drivers for monitor gaming do exactly that.
You are not forced to use it. And if you are lucky enough to have a machine that can even play performance hogs like Fallout 4 in Geometry 3D at fluent frame rates, everybody envies you. Others will likely be happy to have an *OPTIONAL* solution that does not require them to buy a $3.000 PC to play it fluently in VR.

SirChancelotxParticipantI have a hard time to see something that actually enables you to do things you couldn’t do otherwise as a disadvantage in any way. If you don’t like it, just don’t use it. For you that’s the same as if it wouldn’t exist at all, which apparently you would prefer. Noone has a problem with that. Meanwhile others can still use it to make games playable in a decent way on their machines, which could not really be played otherwise.
Yeah, well let’s just see what people with the vive think about Z3D when they try to do room scale and walk around. A lot of people won’t be happy!! The amount of hate that is coming your way if you don’t explain it to people is something I don’t want to see
Why would we try to get up and walk around in skyrim? At least give us the benefit of the doubt that we have researched what Vorpx is and how it works. We are just excited to experience our favorite games in a new more immersive way. Give us some credit that we know all of our Vorpx experiences will be seated ( unless we get the omni virtuix )

FultonXParticipantNothing has changed on my system with the exception of VorpX and now I am getting this error when I try to play Skyrim. Oculus Demo scene works fine and as I said, nothing else has changed and I have been playing since February. Do you have any more suggestions? I am not running in any kind of compatibility mode and as I said I have ran with the exact same process for months, with the exception that this time when I clicked on VorpX to run it, it auto updated, failed, I reinstalled, and now it won’t work. Please help. Thank you.
