In reply to: Autorun WMR
MinabeParticipantSeems you didn’t understand. If you uninstall the WMR Portal, you can’t use the WMR headset. In the same train, again, if you were to disable the autorun you wouldn’t be able to use the WMR headset bc it would be the same as not having the software installed, no two ways about it.
Best thing you can go for is minimizing resources the WMR Portal uses by bypassing it with SteamVR.
Edit: I also have that same headset, first days were kinda confusing bc of all the settings available. I recommend you to enable forced joystick, you’ll be able to move in any virtual setting, including movies; as well as disabling motion reprojection though this is more of a personal preference.

MinabeParticipantWMR headsets need the WMR software to run, no 2 ways about it. I advise you to load steamvr after the WMR window opens up and before it enters the virtual desktop, a sort of exploit to avoid it altogether (though it’ll still be open in the background).
Also, i’d advise you to only load Vorpx just before starting a game, both so it won’t conflict with anything else and so that it woun’t attach by accident to another program, at least i tend to forget i have it on and it attaches to most other things i open.
Feb 15, 2019 at 12:39am #179508Topic: Problem with Metro Last Light Redux
in forum Technical Support
raidouk3ParticipantHi, first of all, im very happy with Vorpx, its been great this months playing qith it.
But i have some problems, with Last Light Redux, if I change anything in Graphic settings, the game closes, so i cant change anything from the game menu.
Another thing is, if I change from Geometry to Z3d, everything floats, so if you look up or down, objects move with your view.
Another thing, is in geometry, where you can play, if I zoom with the weapons, when I shoot, the shoot is off, Its the only game that I have play that this happens, so i dont know if this can be fix.
And last, thanks Ralf, you deserve a lot more recognition because VorpX is amazing.

RalfKeymasterListen, I told you four times now that vorpX doesn’t do anything until it is running. Remapping the controller in vorpX has zero impact on your normal controller functionality outside of vorpX, that can’t be so hard to comprehend.
The controller mapping inside vorpX is a completely different thing than Steam’s controller mapping and works purely inside vorpX. It does not change your Steam controller configuration in any way.
Again, for the fifth time: vorpX plain and simple cannot do anything until it is running, just like Word or Powerpoint don’t do anything until they are running.
I can’t say anything else than that. Sorry again.

RalfKeymasterApparently I wasn’t clear enough before: vorpX does not to anything unless it is running. It does not change your Steam settings. It does not affect your controller. It plain simple doesn’t do anything until you start it.
While your issue may have occured around the time you purchased vorpX, it is not related in any way simply because vorpX can’t do anything while it is not running.
Sorry for not being of more help.

TumParticipantI have reinstalled everything, Steam, and still it does not work.
Your software does start something in services, which is running prior to anything been opened!Feb 14, 2019 at 7:32pm #179496In reply to: Z3D ghosting artefact
RalfKeymasterThe GPU should have no influence on hooking games.
Try the new alternative hooking method in the config app in case of issues. Caveat: only use this method in case of issues with a specific game. It is not per se better than regular hooking and not meant for general use since it may solve a hooking issue with one game but cause issues with others.
Apart from that check for anything that might also hook into games. E.g. virus scanner, GPU/CPU utilities, video recording/streaming apps, messengers. Hooking issues in almost all cases are caused by an interfering background grogram.
BTW: The original Bioshock (in DX9 mode) is better for vorpX than the remaster.

RalfKeymasterAs said above, apart from potentially changed game settings vorpX doesn’t do anything unless it is running. Just because your controller issue occured around the same time you bought vorpX doesn’t necessarily mean it caused your issue.
If you want to change VR controller bindings for vorpX, you do that in the vorpX menu on the VR controller page.
If you have issues with games that vorpX isn’t hooked into, these issues are unrelated to vorpX. To ensure that vorpX doesn’t hook into any game, you can exit from its tray icon right click menu.

TumParticipantI already have re installed SteamVR, and I can certainly assure you I haven’t done anything but install vorpx.
I use the controller bindings every day, and have not been able to since I purchased vorpx.Reinstalling SteamVr didn’t stop the problem !

RalfKeymastervorpX does not change any Steam related registry setting at all, nothing controller related and also nothing else.
It can change settings for some games, which you can revert in the config app (“Restore Game Settings”). If the according list is empty on your PC, no game was started yet where vorpX changed any settings.
Apart from potentially changed game settings vorpX doesn’t do anything unless it is running, so your issue is almost certainly an unrelated coincidence.
Might make sense to fully reset your Steam install if you don’t remember what you changed. To do that simply delete everything in your Steam folder except ‘Steam.exe’ and the ‘SteamApps’ folder. The latter contains all your downloaded games, so you definitely don’t want to delete that one. On next launch Steam will redownload all missing program files and create new configutation files.
Make a backup of all files you remove in case something goes wrong!

TumParticipantThanks you for your reply. Am sorry but that has not fixed the problem.
THe steam overlay was always working, what is not working is the controller bindings of the steam overlay, and that’s what I need to be able to change bindings of all my other steamvr games. When I press my MENU button on my vive controller, I get the steam overlay, Then I select SETTINGS, then I select CONTROLLER BINDINGS. This is what doesn’t work.
All the other things seem to work fine. This all happens with that box ticked or not ticked, and also if I don’t even load vorpx up it still happens.
Vorpx must of done something in the startup or registry that is affecting this!

v2VrParticipantThanks dellrifter22 for your helpful suggestions and reply. I’ll try to adjust some more things. I was able to get the game looking pretty good in z-adaptive or normal yesterday and played through a lot of the game that way and actually looked pretty good.

andrewtsubaroParticipantHere is a bit of history. Sorry for not remembering all the details, and not having time to dig them up. A few years back, I was enjoying Borderlands 2 with vorpx and SLI, everything worked fine. Then there was a vorpx update, and suddenly SLI started to flicker. Then, a new vorpx version was released, the one where the official profile for Dishonored 2 was first included. And, as I remember, at least a couple of new profiles from that release (Dishonored 2 and another one) worked fine with SLI. I did not have an opportunity to test, but I suspect that all new profiles from that release work with SLI. Dishonored 2 worked fine with SLI then, with a beautiful 3D. Of course, as said above, this all could be for reasons that are not related to vorpx, but it LOOKS LIKE it is an issue of older profiles with new versions of vorpx. I wish I had more time to explore this, maybe somebody can check if all new profiles since that release with Dishonored 2 (I think it was 17.3.0) work with SLI.

dellrifter22ParticipantRalf is generally quite responsive to posts where he can help. It’s been unlike him to not post anything these past few days. Hopefully he is well.
I use vorpX daily, but not with controllers so I can’t be much help. Your situation sounds a bit unusual though, hopefully there’s a workaround.
