Just a heads-up that vorpX 19.1.0 is now oficially pushed back to January so noone has to hammer F5 over Christmas. ;)
Due to heavy changes in the DX11 pipeline this release requires a lot of testing unfortunately to make sure nothing is broken that worked before.
If you think scale is off for your taste in any G3D game (shouldn’t be too much usually), you can adjust it within an extremely wide margin using the “3D-Strength/Scale” option. Everything from NPCs looking like dwarfs to giants is possible. The default 1.0 means usually realistic scale/3d or is at least very close to that. So change this option carefully.
Third person games like the Witcher 3 are better suited for immersive screen mode for gameplay reasons. If you prefer to play the Witcher 3 in full VR mode, you can do that any time, but it only really makes sense with a first person mod and ideally also an FOV mod. Both probably are available on nexusmods.com.
In cutscenes simply change to EdgePeek mode (middle mouse button or right gamepad thumbstick click). EdgePeek zooms the screen out temporarily and let’s you look around freely. Perfect for cutscenes and menus.
If you haven’t done so already, you should check the ‘Quickstart Guide’ and the ‘Essential Hints Guide’ in the help. Both contain more useful hints like the one above and help you get a grasp of how vorpX works.
The stickied ‘Good Full VR Games for Beginners‘ list above is a collection of games that I would consider well suited for new users who want to hop right into the action. It contains first person games that all are configured automatically by vorpX’s DirectVR feature(s).
Hi Ralf,
I’ve got the Steam version with all DLC. I think it was an issue with the mods I was installing and possibly not uninstalling properly. Using Nexus got very complicated with profiles etc and things being left behind. Uninstalled and reinstalled, left the sky mods and weather mods out (I think it may have been the Nevada Skies mod causing the troubles) and all looks OK now.
Thanks though for the help and support.
The next thing I’m tweaking is trying to get iron sights so I don’t go cross-eyed! I’ve read up elsewhere on the forums and I am going to experiment with the 3D settings today trying to reduce it close up – any additional tips would be respectfully appreciated.
@ matteo39, I’m using 2560×1440, Oculus ASW off, VorpX ASW on (BTW Ralf, works perfect) 1.5 SS via Oculus TrayTool, giving me 60-90 FPS even with all the HD textures etc. in cinema mode, ambient background, wrapped round and pulled in all the way. LOVE IT!
I mean the game is playable but it’s just annoying; for instance when you’re on Tatooine and the sand floor starts flickering allowing you to see through the graphics…I wonder what is causing this? It even does this without using VorpX…
Also, you can’t do the Swoop bike races using 3D or eventually everything goes black. For the races you have to turn the 3d slider all the way down…
Hi Ralf,
Thanks for the reply. Removed modded sky textures by reinstalling everything, went back to vanilla sky which looks fine to me. The stars still pop a little but not as noticeable. Honestly isn’t an issue now.
As I say they still pop a little buy as the vanilla night sky is generally brighter it is no where near as distracting!
Not sure why, but it seems like there is always a VorpX release right AFTER a big steam sale. :) I’m sure its coincidence/ bad luck timing of course, but I’m always left looking at games on sale wondering “oh sh!t, should I get this one? Is it going to be in the release coming in the next week?”
Ralf, could you give Gabe a call and make sure you guys sync up with these things please? That’d be greaaaat, thanks.
Being facetious of course, but on a less jokey side, it would be kind of cool to have some sort of “heads up” if you know what games are coming down the pipe so we can grab em while they’re on sale. Just a thought.
Cheers
I have noticed a couple of things on my profile.
1. There may be no 3D effect when activated. If you restart it several times you should see 3D effects.
2. Because there is a stick push in the game, you need to turn off the profile’s stick push.
If thats the game from 1997 youll be out of luck because its using Directx 5. VorpX can produce 3D only with DX7/8 games. Anything else DX1-6 and Glide Games can only be played in 2D. If the game supports opengl you may try the Descent 2 profile with opengl.
I can’t really suggest anything specific for an unsupported game, so just three general things:
- Your game needs to support mouse look (free look) for the standard head tracking to work. Check its options whether that can be enabled, e.g. via a hotkey.
- Alternatively vorpX can emulate a gamepad stick (input page of the vorpX menu). That’s rather laggy since gamepad input usually is heavily filtered by games, but better than nothing.
- If your game supports TrackIR (many, but not all flight sim do), you might be able to use OpenTrack instead of vorpX’s head tracking. OpenTrack can emulate TrackIR input using a VR headset.
Hi All,
I’ve had VorpX for a few years now, left VR (DK2) came back to it (CV1) and VorpX has come on a great deal. Like others here I find myself playing classic AAA games more than I do playing ‘Demo Like’ VR experiences. They are similar in some ways but very different in others. I do really like the in-between immersion of the two formats, especially as my PC is in the family living room and walking round with a visor on isn’t very practical until they have all gone to bed!
Anyway, been playing through my steam library, upgraded Graphics card for Christmas (don’t tell the wife its already in my PC, the box is still under the tree!) and decided my machine should have the muscle to push Fallout New Vegas… and I am pleased to say it does. I’ve spent the day modding, un-modding and getting everything to play nice.
I have to say the results are amazing but there is one thing wrong and its bugging the hell out of me! The stars in the sky are popping out at night and it is completely distracting. Nothing else has been a problem, and it sounds such a small thing but it totally ruins the experience at night! I’ve tried the Vanilla textures and 2 different sky texture packs, all the same. No issue with clouds, only stars.
It might be worth mentioning I ran Skyrim on my DK2 back in the day with some pretty sky mods and the same problem was not there. I’ve looked on the net and I cannot find anyone with the same problem. Surely it cannot just be me? Please if anyone can help it would be very much appreciated. for now I’ll have to only play at day time (in the game of course, night in the real world!)
Hello there,
I m very new with vorpx maybe I did something wrong etc. I m trying to get Jedi Knight 1 to work with vorpx…unfortunately there are no custom profiles for this gmae out there yet. So I tried to hook it up with vorpx via dgvoodoo but when I start the game I only am able to play via cinema-mode not real 3d vr. Can anybody help me out plz. Is it possible to play this great 90s gem inside vr??
Best regards
Try without the mod. IIRC it uses extremely large textures which probably cause hiccups that aren’t there without the mod.
That goes for every moddable game BTW. Before assuming something is wrong with vorpX, please first check whether an issue you encounter also occurs unmodded.
Bioshock Remastered is not supported. If there is a profile in the database currently, it’s there by accident as a leftover. Sorry for the confusion.
Please use the original version and add “-dx9” (without the quotes) to the launch options in Steam. Far superior due to full DirectVR support. The Remaster isn’t really better anyway except for slightly better textures.
Some effects at wrong depth can occur occasionally in some games, that’s the nature of the beast so to speak. Don’t recall that in the games you mention though, I’ll check whether something can be done.
Then there is something wrong. I do play it in 4:3, but in window mode. Can that be a problem?? Most games with vorpx runs in window mode.
I have just fixed some games that may meet your genre. May be you want to have a look here. Some games like the Cities and Cities XL series that sadly refuse to work can be viewed on this page.
Cities XL is a mess so nothing lost there. I wanted to try tropico 3 but it won’t run on windows 10 (a shame since I love Tropico and the new one is suppose to have some first person mode to tour your island when it comes out). But I’ll try to run through the list of other ones.
