I was wondering what the experience of others was in how well different anti-virus programs work with vorpX. I’ve already run into two that, unpreventably, block part of the vorpX action, even when all their features were turned off, Bitdefender, and ZoneAlarm. I tried Comodo, but it seemed to be causing problems, not definitely sure about that one.
I’ve just installed Norton Premier, and it seems to be no trouble (so far, crossing my fingers.)
Anyone else have tips on which to avoid, and which work well, in your experience?

Could you please forward this matter to Pimax, they might be able to address it by changing how they handle a specific SteamVR function in their driver. If you don’t 100% understand the following paragraph, just forward it to Pimax, their engineers will.

To avoid potential screen burn-in, vorpX uses SteamVR’s IVRSystem::GetTrackedDeviceActivityLevel function to determine whether the headset is used or not and makes the screen black if this function returns anything else than k_EDeviceActivityLevel_UserInteraction.

The Vive handles this via a proximity sensor that detects whether the headset is used or not, but maybe the Pimax doesn’t have one and uses the tracker activity instead. My (educated) guess: not unlikely that their implementation of this function in their Steam VR driver is not sensitive enough and thus returns no interaction here although there obviously is some minor head movement, since you never can hold your head really still.

    Couple questions …

    1) Do you verify afterward that the registry entry for FOV is what you set it at and didn’t get replaced with another value? that would show 7DTD is overwriting it for some reason, like when the display menu is opened

    2) Do you use Edge Peek? The UI should not be an issue, as with all Vorpx games, Edge Peek needs to become second nature for accessing inventory, maps, etc. I don’t even think about it anymore, especially with the Vive grips as a mapping

I can tell you this … when you get the FOV to work, it will DEFINITELY make a difference every time you change it 5 or more

Make sure Vorpx actually says “Running in 1600 x 1200 resolution” when it starts up. Many times, games will force a different resolution, and Vorpx will tell you this

1920 x 1080 is a widescreen resolution and should be avoided. Always use a 4:3 res, as it is hardly scaled at all to fit the lens resolution. Widescreen gets “squished” and things look ugly

Also, I get full head tracking and play standing up using the controllers to get near-room scale effect.

Keep at it. Glad to help, as I love the game and Vorpx too. Once the FOV, resolution, and tracking line up, then you just have to reteach yourself the Vive controller and you’ll be amazed at how fun it is

Just wanted to say thank you for the update! V17 is an improvement. I currently run just one game (rFactor2), and after update I no longer need to run game in windowed mode. Also, 8:9 ratio resolution zooms in correctly now (previously had to run 10:9 to avoid seeing borders).
Just curious: did input handling change in this version? Antimicro no longer works with vorpx, and I had to switch to JoyToKey, which I am not fan of.

A few things to note around Skyrim.

Does it run with higher FPS whilst not on VR? if not see below.

You have Windows 10 – maximum Vram Skyrim can use is 4Gb. That’s your video ram plus a proportion of system ram. Skyrim SE does not have this limitation btw but the game still seems to have low fps in alot of places.
If you run modded – try to avoid large hi res texture packs. stick to 2048 max in my opinion for VR. .

Make sure your Skyrim is stable and running well before you try to put VR on. VR really requires 60FPS or more but Skyrim doesn’t like running above 60FPS if you run script heavy mods usually you need to cap Framerate at 60. You will need to minimise your settings to make Skyrim work well on VR. Also look at the resolution as lowering this helps.

Look at your Skyrim Prefs and skyrim.ini to make sure you have tweaked it a bit. I would suggest turning off some effects like (shadows on grass, decrease water reflection resolution etc) this should give you more fps. However its a suck it and see thing where you can tweak until you feel its good for you.

    Somethings that can help
    – ENBoost
    – Lightweight ENB – Use injector version. and if you run Mod Organiser etc run the injector from that (add an executable) I get 20+ FPS from vanilla using a lightweight ENB
    – Crash Fixes (google it) if you run alot of scripts or strings it can help with CTD’s and freezes as well
    – Safety Load (some say this doesn’t work but i find it does help)

A good ini editor is :: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/69787/? (sorry if i am not meant to add links on the forums).

    Hope some of this helps.

Ralf, you definitely have something special here. With more game support and continued improvement, this could be huge. It really fills a void right now.

You may have to release other buttons first before the shift mapping is actually active. Implementing two different mappings on a device is a surprisingly complex matter if you want to avoid unwanted key presses during the shift change, but at the same some dual key presses actually are wanted.

If you want to use a real gamepad, switching the Touch controllers to Keyboard/Mouse in the vorpX menu will do the trick.

A word of advice if I may: invest an hour to get used to the keyboard/mouse Touch mode. More time than you would believe went into figuring that out, trying all sorts of things until it was finalized. It works fairly well after getting used to it. All things considered better than Touch as gamepad for my taste and definitely a lot more fun than having your hands fixed in front of you by using a gamepad.

Cool, so the question is how do I switch off the automatic recentering that vorpX does by itself when it detects that I have moved more than it thinks I should? When it says it has recentered and I should avoid moving too much.

Added: What I mean is – if you are in the game standing up – then duck and vorpX will suddenly move the camera when you are at about a meter from where you started. This kind of “immersion room-scale” will work really well with the controller mapping. :-)

I can’t really say anything before games were actually checked, sorry. Someone always will read “XYZ will be looked into” as “XYZ will be supported”. So to avoid any possible confusion, I can’t say what’s on the list. I hope that’s understandable somehow.

Sorry about the confusion, the first line of the instruction should read:

“This can be run in stereoscopic mode in Vorpx Desktop Viewer.”

The purpose of the instruction is to be able to play Rise of the Tombraider in Vorpx Desktop viewer in stereoscopic 3d.

It doesn’t run for me in Steam Desktop Theater. So that’s why you can disable that in the Steam settings, and also disable Steam overlay to avoid conflict with the Vorpx Desktop Viewer hot keys.

You need to exclude ROTTR.exe in Configure Vorpx to stop it from trying to do 3d reconstruction on the game. If it does that it won’t show the option for side-by-side viewing in the Vorpx Desktop Viewer.

If you use the same mail address for requesting the key that you used for the purchase, it doesn’t take more than a few minutes normally.

Unfortunately the request code you sent appears to be invalid, so the system could not create a key from it. Probably a typo somewhere.

You can use copy and paste from the licnse dialog to avoid typos.

The solutions above and in the dedicated GTA thread are the solutions for GTA V Full VR since 1.5 years. As much as I’d like to offer another special one just for you, these four options are the ones that are available.

The mod I linked may not be the one you are talking about. The one linked in the post above to my knowledge requires vorpX.

Mind that the game uses Z-Buffer 3D. Compared to Geometry 3D that means “less 3D” for foreground objects (not so in the distance though), on the other hand it’s twice as fast. If you don’t see any 3D-effect at all, try ALT-TAB out of the game and back. With a (very) old GTA V version there was an issue where sometimes the Z-Buffer could not be found before doing that. That doesn’t happen since over a year, but maybe for whatever reason it still does with your individual setup.

Below is a screenshot with the settings for Flawless Widescreen, which I just confirmed to be working with the latest GTA V version, just in case.

    Flawless Widescreen vorpX GTA V

This is for Vive, GTA V resolution 1600×1200. All vorpX settings at their default values. FOV for Rift would a bit lower. The important ones are first person and vehicle FOV. The other ones can be set to your liking.

If FW doesn’t work for you, check whether you maybe have some security software installed that may prevent it from applying the FOV fix. Also make sure that your GTA is updated to the latest version (and that you are not using an “unofficial” version of the game). Memory fixes like the one Flawless Widescreen applies may be version dependent.

    Ralf,

Thanks for the fully detailed explanation, really appreciate it.

I’ve tried tabbing out of the game but it didn’t close the game. Is there any other keyboard combinations to do this, so i can try if it works?

I’ve downloaded the MOD which u said I needed to download. GTA finally opens up as in full VR. Unfortunately everything looks extremely zoomed in.

Other than that, is there maybe a chance you misunderstood me? – When I try to load up GTA 5 by using fov mod it’s not that I have the image wrapped around my head, not all. It’s the same as the image on cinema mode, but bigger. There’s also void around it so it looks like a larger version of the cinema mode.

So I think the 3D mode is not activated somehow, as I clearly have no 3D image

    In awaiting of ur reaction,

Please make sure that BOTH the name and the key look EXACTLY like shown in the key e-mail. The name field has to contain the name folowed by the mail address in parantheses EXACTLY like shown in the key e-mail.

The EXAMPLE IMAGE that is attached to the key e-mail shows how it should look.

Use COPY AND PASTE to avoid typos. Do not type anything manually.
