I played a bit of Fallout 4 with VorpX using Z3D. It does create a 3D effect, but it isn’t quite correct, most noticeably the ground around my feet doesn’t appear flat (parallel to the horizon), instead it slopes lower as it gets closer to me.

    1) Do other people see this distortion? Or do I have something configured wrong?
    2) If it’s expected, is it caused by a bug in the conversion of z-buffer depth to eye separation amount? Or is it an unavoidable limitation of only having a z-buffer to work with?

Trying VorpX for the first time with Skyrim and it’s really nauseating as the game freezes the camera whenever you interact with an NPC, your inventory, the map, etc. Ideally the game would never pause, but presuming that’s unavoidable with a lot of games, the solution seems to be edge peek mode so you still get some head tracking.

Could VorpX detect that the screen has stopped responding to head tracking and automatically switch into edge peek mode? As an option. Would make playing Skyrim a much smoother experience.

I’m having the same problem as ears here.
I’ve been avoiding the new runtime update as it was causing older demos to not work properly, this also included VorpX. VorpX was working fine with GTA before the update, but then the update killed it. So I even tried updating the Runtime, and now I have the same problem as Ears.
When I use the 6.01 Runtime, it’ll work, how ever, the screen goes black, and I can’t see anything until I alt + tab, which causes the game to go into window mode and it freezes the screen. If I alt + tab to the game, it goes back to be a black screen.
Is there no way for me to downgrade to a previous version of VorpX? Being forced to update is kind of frustrating when trying to troubleshoot with these kind of things.

Theoretically you are right, and this was actually tried already a long time ago to get decoupled look/aim, but in 99.9% of cases you would look into a black void when doing this. Games clip unwanted objects/geometry away long before vorpX comes into play.

You can observe the same effect when you overdo it with the “3D FOV Enhancement” in the vorpX menu, which causes objects in the peripheral part of the view to pop in and out in most games at high values.

Just a little heads up that vorpX also has to run as admin when you launch a game as admin, otherwisw it can’t hook.

In general this should be avoided though, please do it only if necessary.

@ v_lee02 : I remember a similar behaviour (loading forever) from before vorpX 0.81. This was actually one of the reasons for releasing a 0.81 version.

Never heard again of this since then, though. Do you by any chance use an unusual graphics card? Optimus laptop, something older than three years, Intel graphics? Something like that *may* be the cause of the issue.

Short addition to shadowself’s hint: If you run GTA (any game) as admin, you also have to run vorpX as admin. In general that shouldn’t be necessary thoogh and should in fact be avoided.

@ all : In case of mouse/keyboard issues make sure that the game has focus by clicking into the window once (assuming the game runs windowed). Although nothing is displayed, game windows still need focus to process mouse/keyboard events.

Tried it already, unfortunately there was an issue when switching to video playback. If there is enough time before the 0.9 release, I’ll try again with the new DX11 Kodi, which will be the default API for the next major Kodi release anyway if I understand things correctly. Can’t promise anything though, may or may not be possible.

Quality wise VLC will be probably the best option though since it allows to avoid the double scaling issue described earlier in this thread. At least on Windows 8+, on Win7 it seems to a bit prone to occasional frame skips.

The next vorpX version will have special mediaplayer profiles for VLC and MPC-HC which probably are two of the most popular players. This includes support for side by side and over/under 3D movies and pre made gamepad emulation profiles for basic playback control.

Capturing the desktop is not a good way to handle movie watching on the Rift. The main issue with that for movie playback is that it makes the movie blurrier than it has to be. First the video player scales the image up than it is captured and afterwards scaled again for display in the headset. Each scaling process makes the image blurrier. With the VLC player vorpX can grab the video at its original size and display it directly, which saves the first quality degrading scaling step. vorpX also does the unavoidable scaling step in a special way that preserves image clarity better.

Apart from that simply capturing the desktop also introduces an additional framerate conversion issue as the video is first converted from (for a normal movie) 24fps to the desktop refreshrate (usually 60fps), then captured at the desktop refresh rate and converted again to the 75fps (Rift DK2) of the headset. Similar to the scaling each of these steps degrades quality, in this case visible as micro stutter. Regardless of the player used vorpX always captures the video at its original framerate, saving the first framerate conversion.

vorpX will be a pretty good choice for watching movies in conjunction with MPC-HC and especially VLC. Image quality wise, which in the end is what counts the most, arguably the best.

In a nutshell: if you care about image quality when watching movies in the Rift, use a specialized VR movie player or vorpX 0.9 (available later this month) with VLC, but do not use something that just captures the desktop.

@ Ainaemaet: what you say is true for most, if not all, native apps, where the developers have control over the rendering pipeline from start to finish. But not necessarily for an injection driver where this introduces the need for an additional rendering step. For DX10/11 that may be avoidable, which is being investigated right now, for DX9 it’s not.

Due to the SDK timewarp post processing you won’t notice that in the end, but personally I would prefer the maximum raw rendering performance for vorpX without having to rely on now largely opaque SDK processing.

Apart from that there were enough people who had issues getting direct mode to work at all on their machines in the past that completely removing a working fallback seems at least bold to me. There was no real need to do that. I don’t want to speculate too much, but I could well imagine that making things tougher for smaller head mounted display vendors played as much a role in this decision as the wish to provide the best possible user experience.

Do you by any chance have Steam running with admin rights? If that is the case, you would also have to run vorpX with admin rights. Or Steam without admin rights, which is recommended anyway as running vorpX as admin should be avoided.

Regarding the Outlook crash: you can add programs to the exclude list in the vorpX config app.

I bought vorpX before but don’t have the web installer anymore.

Please request a new download link here.

My activation key cannot be verified.

Please double check whether the request code in the license dialog is the same as in the key e-mail. If not, send us your new request code. Also please make sure to enter the data in the name field correctly. It has to look exactly like in the key e-mail. Use copy and paste to avoid typos. The key e-mail has an example image attached that illustrates how it’s supposed to look.

I just bought vorpX but didn’t recieve my activation key.

To activate vorpX please follow the short instructions in the license dialog that is displayed when you start vorpX: send us an e-mail with the REQUEST CODE that is shown in the dialog. To avoid potential delays please do this from the same mail address that you used for purchasing vorpX.

I just bought vorpX but didn’t recieve a download link.

Normally the link is displayed on the last page of the order process if the purchase was successful. In addition to that you will receive a mail with the link from MyCommerce. Unfortunately this may take up to 30 minutes in some (rare) cases. If you already waited that long, please check your spam folder – just in case the mail went there accidentally.

The web installer shows a “Download Error” message.

This is most likely caused by a virus scanner, firewall or other security software that prevents the installer from accessing the internet. Please try to disable all such software and also check your router firewall. If that does not help, it may just be a temporary network issue. In that case wait some time and try again later.

Ok… I am starting this project because I am so annyed those games in Steam that informs that it have VR support and after buying the game and few hours of hassle ending up to find from forums that VR support is dropped because it is not possible to run with DK2 motion tracking :/ or some other problems that cannot be solved…

So I have wondered that I have got many games still Run on 1980×1080 in DK2 but there is no head tracking at all… :/ also looking up or down is unpossible even with controller because up and down is locked to avoid nausea in DK1..

So my question is that has WorpX team ever got this in their minds? or am I the only person in the world that thinks there is a way to make DK2 emulated to DK1 and all old demos and full games like Kairo, Dream and many other would be playable with native support again! :) (with little bit of nausea without motion tracking of cource) but that would still be worth it!

If VorpX team got something similar on their sleaves I will wait… if not, that is going to be loooong week with lots of red bull :D

The Witcher 3 crash is being looked into right now. While it’s not exactly a great game for VR (3rd person), it certainly would be nice in Virtual Cinema mode. The issue seems to be quite odd and hard to locate though unfortunately, no guarantees for a solution yet.

Please use the wishlist sticky for wishes to avoid unneccesary clutter. Thanks! I will close this post.

FOV maximum value allowed by the game (Metro 2033) is 90.
One point more, you could reset the value.

If that was not enough to 90, you can increase a little in geometry, using the option 3d fov enhancement+Adjust the zoom joined this avoiding looking edges.

    Example:
This could be possible with the optimizer vorpx games (external configuration)
But if it fails for some reason …
    C:\Users\”your user”\AppData\Local\4A Games\Metro 2033
    Open user.cfg modify Sick_fov:90
    r_api:0 (force dx9)save changes.

    Menu vorpx ingame:
    3d reconstruction:Geometry
3d fov enhancement:0.30 (not much more,”may” produce glitch in some games)
    Separation (3d strength):2.90
    Fix chromatic aberration:ON.
    Fix black smear:ON.
    Aspect ratio correction:Pixel 1:1
    Image zoom:0.79
    2d fov enhancement:0.00

This is for normal version, redux geometry does not work.
    regards.

Can take a few days from time to time, but it’s also not impossible that something slipped through, of course.

If you checked your spam folder without finding an answer, please resend your request using the contact form linked above. That would at least avoid possible spam filter issues on our end.
