Alright, so, it starts in “normal” — I’m guessing that means it doesn’t actually start in VorpX, but launches “normally” on the desktop monitor.
First, under General in the vorpX Config, make sure you have the right HMD selected. As a fallback, you could always try SteamVR if you can’t get your Oculus to work properly with VorpX. Before you may ask, it doesn’t matter that it’s a GoG game.
If that doesn’t work, and you may want to do this first, uninstall Comodo (you can always reinstall it after if this doesn’t work). You’d be surprised how often Antivirus protections are still “running” after being “shutdown”.
Another possibility is that you need to make sure that the HDMI on your HMD is plugged in to your primary graphics card.
Also, if you are running anything like FRAPS, or some overlay software (like Overwolf, Discord’s overlay, etc.), you will want to disable them.
VorpX is not the issue here, there is an environmental factor on your system. Many people have played on Oculus and have played Witcher 3 successfully. Just take a breath, and try some troubleshooting steps.
Hi there,
I must say, I’m pretty frustrated and disappointed. First of all, the hard facts: Win10, i5-6500, GTX 980, 16 GB RAM, Oculus Rift, Witcher 3 (GOG Version) installed (not on OS HD). vorpX does not attach to Witcher 3 after starting it. vorpX config is set, I created a desktop shortcut attached to witcher3.exe, I disabled (shut down) my Comodo Security Software completely, no other tasks concerning graphics is running (apart from Oculus App), but still: Witcher 3 starts in “normal” 2D mode, the Rift stays black when starting witcher3.exe, nothing happens when starting Witcher 3 via the desktop shortcut.
What am I doing wrong? Do I need to install anything else? Mods, Patches, Updates for Witcher3? Do I need to deactivate the Oculus App that starts automatically when putting on the Rift? I see vorpX control work in the background with 15% CPU load without starting any app or game, but I can’t really figure out what’s doing.
Please, I paid for this software and I don’t want to spend money for frustration… Thanks a lot in advance!
Just bought Vorpx, and trying to get it working. I am testing it out on Witcher since it is a supported game. I have it on steam. I tried the config to occulous first, but switched it to Steam VR mode after it didnt load. The audio switched right over to the VR set, and there is a flicker of the screen once in a while on the headset. When I launch vorpx it says “attaching to vorpx desktop” and steam VR launches.
The Vorpx icon shows a small black screen when I hover. When I launch the game, the audio switches to the headset but the video wont show, aside form the occasional flicker.
I turned off Bitdefender, and read the FAQ.
Windows 10 12G ram, intel quad core I5-2400 3.10 GHz.
Occulous Rift
Nvidia Gforce gtx 1060 3 gb
If you think scale is off for your taste in any G3D game (shouldn’t be too much usually), you can adjust it within an extremely wide margin using the “3D-Strength/Scale” option. Everything from NPCs looking like dwarfs to giants is possible. The default 1.0 means usually realistic scale/3d or is at least very close to that. So change this option carefully.
Third person games like the Witcher 3 are better suited for immersive screen mode for gameplay reasons. If you prefer to play the Witcher 3 in full VR mode, you can do that any time, but it only really makes sense with a first person mod and ideally also an FOV mod. Both probably are available on nexusmods.com.
In cutscenes simply change to EdgePeek mode (middle mouse button or right gamepad thumbstick click). EdgePeek zooms the screen out temporarily and let’s you look around freely. Perfect for cutscenes and menus.
If you haven’t done so already, you should check the ‘Quickstart Guide’ and the ‘Essential Hints Guide’ in the help. Both contain more useful hints like the one above and help you get a grasp of how vorpX works.
The stickied ‘Good Full VR Games for Beginners‘ list above is a collection of games that I would consider well suited for new users who want to hop right into the action. It contains first person games that all are configured automatically by vorpX’s DirectVR feature(s).
vorpX 18.3.2 has been released. This is a maintenance release mainly addressing frequent frame judder in SteamVR mode after the latest SteamVR update.
In addition to that some related changes originally intended for vorpX 19.1.0 have been backported to 18.3.2, most notably support for Motion Smoothing (SteamVR), respectively Asynchronous Space Warp (Oculus). vorpX 19.1.0 is still on track for a pre-Christmas release.
Changes/Fixes:
- SteamVR: Fix for frequent judder below 90fps with recent SteamVR versions.
- SteamVR/Oculus: Motion Smoothing/Asynchronous Space Warp support.
- SteamVR: Supersampling <1.0 is now taken into account (only important for Pimax 5k/8k).
- Oculus: Crystal Image setting takes user set super sampling into account.
- D3D11: several multithreading fixes and improvements
- The Witcher: better Geometry 3D profile, Z3D parameters tweaked
- The Witcher 2: G3D did not work anymore, Z3D parameters tweaked
- GTA V: scalable HUD added
mVR apps at a Supersampling factor of 1 (that means without real supersampling at the center of the display), the app will render in 1512 x 1680 for each eye!
I know its more then a year ago, but I have a question regarding your post. When I’m searching for the witcher 3 profiles, I only see one and thats not the one you talked about.
Hello all, I purchased vorpx yesterday and right now I test some games with it. Somehow I can’t make the witcher 3 work. I already tried to create a desktop shortcut and start it without the GOG Galaxy Launcher but its not working. Vorpx tells me, that its attaching the exe, but I’m still in the Steamvr home screen. Any ideas?
Great request and good timing for me. I have spent the last few days experimenting with some third person games with VorpX and have found the 3D strength to be very weak. This lock of 5.0 is too restrictive.
The reason for these recent experiments are because of my recent play through of Hellblade Senuas Sacrifice VR. My hats off to Ninja Theory for providing the VR version free to the owners of the original version. They built in an option under experimentation called “table top” and playing with this mode is nothing short of amazing and a compelling experience. I am a huge 3D Vision user and play games 95% of the time in a way which can be described as a “toyification” or “doll house” effect. 3D Vision allows for separate convergence and depth settings which are non restrictive and makes games amazing to play in this way. How we play games is subjective. Thankfully PC gaming allows for modifications and customizing. This provides for maximum enjoyment and personal experience.
Providing unlimited or much higher 3D strength in VorpX would be a massive improvement. There are only a handful of games that are good with VorpX and it’s not a fault of VorpX since most games were never designed for VR.
Having said that, I’ve tried a few games such as The Witcher, Neverwinter Nights, Gothic III, Dragon Age Origins and a few others in VorpX and the 3D strength is just lacking. I was wondering in the last few days if there was a way to get beyond the 3D strength of 5…….anyone with ideas to get beyond the limit of 5 for 3D strength?
Ive updated my personal profile list so someone can do a genre research an that, If i get enough feedback through the Engine List (i just dont know every game, please send a short message like “Witcher 2, 3rd Person, RPG ect. ) i will then create a genre research for the official profiles as well.
Nice! Even better. You could always go for Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3. All are great and on sale.
deal is a deal eh :)
already got ME trilogy and plan to revisit them with vorpx soon. I really like games with good level design like Witcher series or/and with a colorful palette like Remember Me and Sunset overdrive.
Yep, downloaded too, backlogging both for now, I’m still on Tomb Raider 2013, Rise of Tomb Raider, Witcher 2 and Remember Me. Feel free to recommend more of your favorite 3rd person games pls since many sites are on sale right now.
I got DAO Ultimate at GOG for 5 dollars.
<p class=”cye-lm-tag”>@ distant lol DA:O Ultimate edition is only 7.49 on steam. No pressure, but it is totally worth it: https://store.steampowered.com/app/47810/Dragon_Age_Origins__Ultimate_Edition/
Just checked Witcher 1, works fine here. Will look into Witcher 2, don’t have it installed currently, should definitely have G3D.
my bad, I tried W2 seeing it’s not engaged with 3D and assumed W1 would be the same.
Thanks Ralf, I was about to try this.
vorpX is currently the only way I enjoy my games now. Even Z-normal looks great for third person games. I’m currently still playing through Assasin’s Creed Odyssey and the new Tomb Raider as well. I agree, TR is excellent in 3D!
Already planning to revisit Witcher 3, and play Witcher 2 for the first time.
Two more I’ve been trying to hook lately but so far only crash: Metal Gear Solid 5 and Mafia 3. But I’ll keep trying :) .
Witcher 2 Geometry 3D was indeed broken. An updated profile that restores it is available from the cloud.
You can download cloud profiles in the config app.
