In reply to: vorpX Are you dead?

Hi Ralph, i wonder if the next version will address the headtracking issue with some games.

    – Skyrim: aware of the mouse OR controller issue, i was trying to use the built in controller configuration feature to emulate keyboard with no success. I was wondering if the VORPX custom controller configuration will further improve or if you could build a specific controller profile for Skyrim as this is one of the most requested games.

    – Deus Ex Human Revolution: headtracking issue that lets you look around OR move, never at the same time.

    – Alien Isolation: headtracking deactivates after moving with the controller, reactivates after using Vorpx menu again

I have having the same problem, but with Deus Ex Human Revolution: Directors’ Cut. It will start just fine if VorpX is disabled. When VorpX is running, it tries to start and fails with the “Failed to start game (unknown error)” Steam error. Other games (e.g Skyrim, Bordlands 2) work just fine. Metro 2033 Redux and Serious Sam also worked fine (after I did the VorpX Desktop trick once). DEHR:DC, however, still fails when VorpX is running, even using VorpX Desktop.

Ok i’ve tried again bioshock infinite, it looks there’s no way to avoid the crystal ball because you can’t set the fov high enough even tweaking the cfg file manually (or using vorpx game optimizer that does the same). don’t know if setting other resolutions may solve the problem, maybe i should search for an aspect ratio tweak and do more tests, but i need to have fov configured properly when i’m at 16:9 resolution (so i can use DSR, see below)

i’ve changed game, time for deus ex human revolution, this time i’ve been able to see a proper vr, fov 120 (89 converted to vertical), also i’ve solved the pixel/aliasing mess, vive supersampling does not work, because it’s supersampled AFTER the game render (as it’s an injection), so only way is using nvidia DSR, i’m running it at 4k and it’s very good looking, thanks to the latest steamvr beta feature asyncronous reprojection i’m able to play it quite smoothly and it looks great.

Only drawback is the weapon/hands that are 2d.

it runs between 45 and 55 fps but direct mode is over 150fps, i don’t know if there’s a way to set the game fps higher. what is that direct mode fps exactly? Strange thing is that i have 45/55fps too without 4k resolution.

Tried turning off direct async in vorpx but my cpu usage goes crazy and i get no fps gain, turned off fluid as i get double images when i move the head, btw is a big step forward, hope to find other games where vorpx is fully functional like this one.

last note, i get sick after a few minutes with deusex, probably is too fast, there is a little delay with headtracking, but it’s not the problem, the problem is the player movement, will try again tomorrow morning when i’m fresh, i think is just a matter of getting used, i hope at least :)

Aside from the weird flat UI and lack of positional tracking, this game ran like a dream for me back before CV1 launched. Trying to run it now, though, I’m getting like 5 FPS. I’ve got i7-5930K and 980Ti, 32GB Ram etc etc, and I cranked down all the game’s graphics settings anyway, and it doesn’t help. Any idea what could be causing these performance issues?

    I should clarify, I’m still using DK2.

So after a few failures, I was able to get DE:MD to load using the DE:HR profile even though they are on entirely different game engines. However, it will only load properly in virtual cinema mode. When you switch to full blown 3d mode half the screen is blacked out and blocky with parts missing. It’s set to geometry in the profile, and switching to either Z setting for 3D results in nothing but blackness.

Any suggestions on how I can improve the profile to get a better 3D effect and cleaner rendering? (maybe a different profile?)

    Thanks!

I also had this problem with Deus Ex.
It’s an odd solution but I solved it by starting the game and whenever
I noticed lag I would exit and then restart it.

    Any recommended fixes? Tweaks, anything?

I am running Deus Ex Human Revolution DC. I can only get Vorpx AND ReShade to work with dx9.

With dx9 I run reshade as I normally would, configured for dx9. I start Vorpx. It displays an error message – but here is where it gets interesting…

With DX9 Both Vorpx and Reshade hook, and I’m able to play the game in G3D with Reshade.

Yet when I bump reshade up to DX11 in DXHRDC, the same error message happens, but the ReShade effect is NOT present. I have tried x64 dll injectors, including ENB Injector. Nothing works.

    Anyone have any ideas?

That is REALLY odd. Deus Ex: HR is one of the test games here that are checked quite regularly, last time yesterday incidentally (GTX 1080, which finally arrived here yesterday, is great for vorpX BTW).

Please try to reset game settings to default, set resolution to either 1280×1024 or 1600×1200 and do not force AA in your graphics driver (just in case).

Usual test case here is Sarif HQ, which is a good test area since it shows a wide range performance wise. With minimum VR spec hardware (GTX970) and Geometry 3D in DX11 at 1600×1200 that should be OK performance wise mostly with a quite heavy performance drop (~20fps) in parts of the main lobby.

Anything below the result described above definitely is not right.

Apart from that: what helps quite a bit performance wise is using the max. ingame FOV and compensate for the rest with the vorpX inmage zoom instead of using the FOV set by the vorpX game optimizer. That is basically true for any game, but especially for Deus Ex. Enhances both performance and image quality at the price of visible bars with low zoom settings.

I’m having the same problem with Deus Ex, I have a 980ti and only get 11fps in DX11.
Has anyone found a solution for this?

Something is very wrong on my end with Deus Ex Human Revolution + vorpx, especially, when using DX11. I’ve tried both versions. With DX11 enabled, framerates are abysmal, similar to yours with G3D, Z3D, even 3D off. I was messing with it last night. Setting it to DX9 yielded better framerates, but it didn’t seem like ATW was working. Lots of stutter when looking around when framerates drop below 90fps. Other titles, for example, still have buttery smooth headtracking even at 30fps, so it leads me to believe something is wrong with timewarp – either the oculus SDK or vorpx’s version. Also, for one of the games, the Z3D modes defaulted to 0.00 3D strength. When raising this setting, it seemed to alter IPD instead of 3D separation. Also, CPU usage was @ 100%. Weird stuff going on that I think is game specific.

Dishonored, on the other hand runs very well on my system. In most cases, framerates are high enough not to notice issues. I see drops when there are a lot of AI wandering about the larger outdoor areas. In those cases, I switch to Z3D for a spell. The Hound Pits pub is notorious for lower fps, though.

I’m not sure about 3rd person, but you can edit the registry to change the fov to 120. I found this text online a while back:

“Just go to: regedit>current user>software>eidos>Deus Ex: HRDC parent directory. The FOV isn’t in the subfolders for the other settings, you gotta stay at the top one. The values are in hex, so you just edit whatever your current setting is to 78 for 120fov. And don’t navigate to the game settings menu in game; that breaks the spell.”

That’s for the director’s cut. For the regular version, there is a similarly named folder.

has anYone managed to change the 3rd person FOV with the zoom in that mode to be higher, the standard fov setting onlY changes the main FOV.

best i have done is set it to 100 then use geometrY 3D fov enchancement set to 0.40, this means the 3rd person isn’t soo bad, if You set fov to standard 70 then vorpx to 1.5 fov enchaement everYthing is perfect FOV wise but there is too much culling.

ideallY i would like to run the game in 2D with fov 120 on 1st and 3rd person, this game doenst work in 3d due do weapon issues.

So ive tried reversing the OC on my cpu and completely reinstalling my OS.

    Still same issue

Certain games like half life 2 run absolutely flawlessly, however some, such as deus ex, run at maybe 5FPS on the main menu, even with 3d reconstruction disabled.

    Whats going on?
