Hi, I’ve just got Vorpx and testing with the Quest2 myself (using usb cable & “link”). Only had it for one day but I’ve tested briefly with Black Mesa (haven’t got to any combat yet) and Dead Space 3 (played about 40 minutes so far) and they seem to work well in full VR mode (ie. 360 stereoscopic with head tracking). Also tried about couple of minutes in Middle Earth: Shadow of War & Tomb Raider (2013) which worked well in Immersive Screen mode.

Other games like starcraft, diablo 2 and Total Annihilation are likely best played in “Immersive Screen” or “Cinema” mode.

As noted I’ve only just started with Vorpx but I believe you can set up your own profiles for new games and there’s a cloud profiles section. I checked the games you listed and found these (please note I haven’t tested them at all, just saw that there was a profile of some sort there already):

I mostly just want to use it with my existing library of PC games.

Will I be able to turn my head and look around using vorpx in non-native VR games? Even if I can’t I’m still very much interested in it just to have games that I move around and look at with my mouse and keyboard be stereoscopic 3D.

My other question is what about games that don’t seem to have a profile yet? Will they potentially work anyway? Or do they have to have a premade profile by the people at vorpx?

Is there a place where we can submit a list that we like worked on? I’ve seen the page that has a couple hundred titles and checked the ones that cover what I want, but I’m also hoping to play the following :

Autonauts, prototype one and two, Saints Row four , risk of rain two, sanctum two, satisfactory , tribes ascend , Warframe , Diablo 2, total annihilation, Hellgate 2038 ( the original Hellgate London seems to be on the list, but I don’t know if this new Hellgate revival would work) deep rock galactic , Trailmakers , middle Earth Shadow Of War, state of decay 2. StarCraft 1 and 2.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for looking into this.

According to HWInfo, no individual thread exceeded ~50% during the course of running Diablo 3 (I used HWInfo’s “Maximum” value to make this determination). I wondered if it might be a single maxed thread that was causing this, but this does not appear to be the case. I also kept an eye on thermals, to rule out thermal throttling, but that was also fine (see below).

Here is some more info, in case it may help:

Windows 10 1909 (Build 18363.720), freshly installed about two weeks ago.
Nvidia Driver 442.5.
AMD Chipset Driver 2.01.15.2138.
Oculus version 14.1.
Oculus Tray Tool 0.85.4.0 (only used to start and stop Oculus services).
Max CPU Temp: 51 C (liquid cooled).
Max VRM Temp: 49 C (actively cooled).
Max GPU Temp: 48 C.

It doesn’t look as if the system is thermal throttling. I don’t run supersampling in Oculus Tray Tool, as that is known to have a heavy performance penalty.

That sounds way to extreme. I’ll have to look into into that to check whether something is wrong, can’t really say anything more specific. I’ll check the game.

On a general note it’s worth noting though that the overall CPU usage doesn’t really say anything. Your CPU has 6 cores (12 threads via virtual duplication). If just one of these threads utilizes a core fully, you are CPU limited even if several other cores don’t do anything.

For simplicity imagine an older game that only runs one thread and your PC has no other tasks running at all. In such a case your task manager would only show 8.33% (100/12) CPU utilization at max. speed since the game can’t utilize all cores/threads of your CPU.

Diablo III probably uses some multithreading, although probably not overly much, so your 17% don’t sound entirely unrealistic on a 12 thread CPU until being CPU limited.

Hello vorpX folks.

My system:

• CPU: AMD R5 1600
• GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti
• RAM: 16 GB
• SSD: 512GB Intel 760p NVMe (for games only)
• VR: Oculus Rift CV1

When running Diablo 3 through vorpX, the frame rate is between 30-50 FPS, far lower than when running it pancaked.

Here’s the part I do not understand: CPU and GPU utilsation are very low when the game runs in vorpX. The CPU is at about 17% utilisation, and the GPU is at about 30% utilisation.

For context, Diablo 3 runs >300 FPS (with VSYNC off) without vorpX, and fully utilises the GPU.

As this suggests it’s not a hardware bottleneck, any ideas why the performance is so low? Are there any settings I can check / optimise to alleviate the issue?

Today is a good day for VR. After putting a buch of games aside that were crashing with starforce protection (tages ect. will be tested later) i found out that manually delaying VorpX can solve the problem. Read more here.

DAWN OF MAGIC (G3D)

– Diablo / Sacred like Hack n Slay
– If your game version has Starforce Protection you MUST delay VorpX#s hook manually (see above)

It appears Dark Souls 2 DX9 is broken on VorpX. I just bought the DX11 version SOTFS and it loads fine and G3D works great.

Playing through the souls games in G3D, zoomed out Diablo style, makes VorpX well worth the price.

-dont go over about 1920×1080 because HUD becomes very small

Dark Souls 3 plays incredibly well, in both 1st person (with a mod from Nexus) or I found it works best for me in a zoomed out, almost to a Diablo 3 level. However, all forms of head tracking work great so I just lean in to zoom tight, and push off to zoom way out. I’ve been bouncing back and forth between the touch controllers and mouse keyboard. Both work well and offer very different game experiences.

There can be some graphical glitches if you push it, but I’m about 2/3rd’s of the way through and couldn’t imagine how I played it the first time without. It feels like an entirely different game. Good Luck, let me know if anyone wants my Vorpx profile.

i have searched forums, videos and tried to get as much info as i could about running vorpx + pimax 4k but i am still confused.

i use vorpx 17.2.3 and pimax – pisetup /piplay (whatever its called) v. 1.2.93.
pimax is working well with steam/steam vr, piplay sees the headset – all is good.

what i have a prob with is vorpx.
1. i run steam – steam vr
2. i run vorpx config. settings for pimax in general tab “steam vr htc vive”
or should i go with oculus instead? i tried to set “generic vr headset” where i set the resolution to 2560×1440 and in “desktop monitors” i used “system settings” option. nothing worked.

3. in “game settings optimizer” i used diablo 3 file – i hit optimize button.
4. i startedn diablo 3 game, got “split screen” as in vr but on my 4k monitor only!
all what i saw on pimax was just some gray generic grid. have no idea how to get it into pimax. btw i dont see pimax as a second monitor. dont even know if i should see it as a second monitor.

any idea what am i doing wrong here?

i tried to run world of warcraft on private server on pimax using vorpx.
i duplicated the profile in “local profiles” tab, linked exe file but when i hit “apply” button, no shortcut on my desktop was created. how to make one? what am i doing wrong?

the only game so far i was able to play was minecraft.

Third person games like Diablo 3 or WoW usually start in cinema mode. You can switch to full VR mode in the vorpX menu (DEL key), but that doesn’t necessarily make much sense for every game. Diablo 3 for example has an isometric camera perspective looking down on the playfield, so it’s best best played in cinema mode. vorpX cannot change the actual game mechanics of a game.

However, for first person games, especially those with Direct VR (like Portal 2), the experience comes quite close to native VR games. Portal 2 does not run on a virtual cinema screen with vorpX, it takes you into the game exactly like a native VR game, even including basic roomscale capabilities in that particular case.

Good games to get started (all with Direct VR support) are listed below. Later, when you know a bit better what vorpX can and cannot do and how it works, you will also be able to bring other first person games close to that.

I guess I don’t get what this software is for as all it seems to do is add Cinema mode but I could already do this with Oculus Rift software and any game I own. I would like to give this software the kind of praises you are but I just purchased it today and feel like I wasted $42. Does VorpX do anything besides Cinema mode for games? So far Portal 2, Diablo 3, and World of Warcraft tried and all of them give me Cinema mode with head tracking. If this is it I would rather play on a monitor. Please let me know what I am doing wrong. Portal 2 was the best of the group as you could scan and then it gives you more of a 3D look but you are still looking through a 4:3 screen.
