If you want, you can also play standing with a gamepad. That’s a nice middle ground between playing seated and room scale VR and adds a lot to the being there impression if you have the stomach for controller based locomotion while standing. This works best in Geometry 3D mode which also has positional tracking. Be aware though that in Fallout 4 G3D requires an extremely fast GPU to work at a high enough frame rate.

What vorpX cannot do is changing the basic gameplay mechanics of a game. A first person open world game like Fallout 4 always will be a first person open world game, whether you play it with vorpX or on a monitor.

I would argue though that actually and quite literally being inside a game world that you can only see on a flat screen in front of you otherwise is VERY different from a normal monitor gaming experience. Room scale or not, there is no comparison.

A little bit more “room scale feeling” *might* (emphasis on might) be added to particular games in the future, but even with that the game would still be basically the same game, of course.

I’ll preface this by saying that I think what vorpX is doing is great. I have been wanting to purchase it before even having my Vive. Since getting my Vive a week and a half ago I have been pretty blown away with the experience to be had. Playing Minecraft in VR has even been quite spectacular for a non-VR game with hacked in Vive support.

Now after buying vorpX and trying it out with Fallout 4 tonight I have been a little disappointed. I followed the guides on which settings to use for the best experience and it was neat but it wasn’t the same. I know people have said before that you aren’t going to beat the experience that can be had in a game that was made from the ground up to support VR, but people have been ranting and raving about vorpX. Maybe it’s because they’re mostly Oculus users that have yet to experience roomscale games? Not that I’m trying to knock Oculus or seated experiences as I have a Rift on preorder as well and haven’t tried Eve Valkyrie yet.

It’s just that with Fallout 4, and what I assume is to be expected for most of these experiences with vorpX, is a standard non-VR game that maps mouse-like movement to your headset with some 3D monitor-like effects thrown in. I found myself just keeping my head still and using the mouse to move around like I would have without a headset on because it was more convenient than using my head as the mouse. For not really gaining that much in terms of experience I lost so much in terms of playability, mainly readability of text and usability of hud elements.

The experience I was having did not feel like VR. Coming from the roomscale experiences with the Vive that I was having I couldn’t help but feel sort of disappointed. Maybe I’m expecting too much of the VR experience to be had with games not made for VR.

Please try a fresh install using your web installer. If you didn’t keep a copy, you can get a new one here.

Comodo is definitely a problem! Unfortunately they seem to make it quite hard for their users to exclude programs from their security treatment. Please check this post for details.

Hi, I also have this problem with most of my games, setting path not found. I think the only ones it hasn’t been working on are ones that store the configs in the steam folder. (ie fallout 4, dead space 3, bioshock infinite work fine and I know they use the docs folder, while Portal 2, Metro Last light redux, serious sam, talos principle, antichamber did not work.)

All software runs under the same account and level (ie user only, no admin use) although I did try running the config as admin to be sure, no folders redirects to network shares (home folders all default locations), tested games have all been run at least once.

Registry entries correctly point to steam folder:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Valve\Steam]
    “SteamExe”=”d:/steam/steam.exe”
    “SteamPath”=”d:/steam”

Running Windows 10, fairly clean and new install, rest of system is on C drive, only steam is on D drive, no issues with any other software that accesses configs or games folders without manual input.

If this is not fixable, couldn’t a simple option to export optimized game settings be added so you can replace the configs yourself?

Edit: Btw I am running the latest Beta version, with the Vive and so far after a lot of tweaking it has been working fine.

Hi, I just bought Vorpx recently and it has worked well with some games and not so well with others, in Fallout 4 I have launched successfully and tweaked parameters but I can’t get Arma 3 to launch in my Oculus, it only displays on my T.V. I have my Oculus hooked into the HDMI port and my TV running on an adapter from a display port, and I am running windows 7. I tried to make the rift my primary display, but my computer only sees my T.V. as a display option, not the oculus. I don’t have this problem with Mount and Blade, Chiv, or Fallout 4, so I deleted every Arma 3 folder on my computer and did a fresh install to no avail. All I see in the oculus is a white gridspace with my sensor while the game loads and plays on my monitor. The only thing that happens is once the arma3 client begins to load, the oculus flickers to black for a split second but then returns to the white empty space. I have read through the trouble shooting and I have no idea what the problem is.

*edit – I have also tried running the game both with steam VR on and with it off, neither seems to help.

I also was able to optimize the settings with the config optimizer but it doesn’t seem to help the game launch on the oculus either. If you could suggest some solutions or places to check I would appreciate it as I would really enjoy playing Arma 3 and Vorpx has worked fine out of the box with other games I own. Thanks.

Here’s a bit of an odd issue: I’d really like to turn _on_ the Steam overlay while playing games with vorpX

I’m trying to play Fallout: New Vegas with vorpX using a Steam Controller, but to use the controller, Steam’s overlay needs to be running. Also, I’d like to be able to see its overlay (part of the Steam Big Picture Mode overlay) in-game, since the controller has its own menus for hotkeys and profile switching and whatnot.

For whatever reason, this actually works! … but only on the first run after a cold boot of my PC. I’ve been able to play the game with vorpX, Steam’s overlay, and the controller all working beautifully, at least long enough to start making a nice controller profile (even using touch menus within the headset). But, when I quit out of the game and start it again, the Steam overlay never loads and the controller doesn’t function properly. (vorpX injects fine in this case, however)

When the overlay fails to inject, I’ve noticed that I can — with the vorpX in-game menu — turn on “Direct Mode Show Original”. As soon as the game draws on my display, Steam’s overlay injects like it should have at the beginning. This gets controls working, but then Steam only draws its overlay on my actual monitor, and not in the headset.

I’m guessing that in the “cold boot” scenario Steam’s overlay injects itself before vorpX does, but in subsequent runs vorpX manages to inject itself first. Assuming that’s the case, is there some consistent way to make sure Steam injects its overlay before vorpX does (without having to reboot)?

My procedure for starting the game is roughly: 1) Boot 2) Start vorpX 3) Start Steam’s Big Picture Mode 4) Turn on Steam Controller 5) Start game with controller.

(If it helps, I’m using a Rift CV1 on Windows 10.)

Edit: I’ve also tried pausing the watcher before starting the game, letting it start up normally, and then resuming the watcher. Unfortunately this just seems to crash the game.

Head tracking can be inverted on the head tracking page of the vorpX ingame menu (press DEL to access the menu).

The Pipboy is best used in EdgePeek mode. Press the mousewheel to switch to EdgePeek and back. If you use the vorpX gamepad emulation (preconfigured in Fallout 4), this should also be possible by pressing one of the thumbsticks IIRC.

You can change the button mapping of the gamepad emulation on the gamepad page of the vorpX ingame menu.

Hi I am a Vorpx newb and Fallout 4 is the only game so far that works but, The Pip boy is right close to my face so I cannot see the whole interface nor do I seem able to select any of the menu’s etc, Playing on a xbox controler the buttons seem to have been changed from the normal F4 settings.

Is their also any way to invert head tracking to match my prefered inverted controller?
    Cheers for any help.

Tried it out. Unfortunately just like usual there’s no 3d effect on the game, just on the Vorpx menu. Weird that yours works. I would’ve thought the G3D works the same for both Rift / Vive etc?
Are you getting proper popout of the objects in the game?

With Tridef + Virtual Desktop, Tesla has amazing popout, similar to Fallout 4+Vorpx for me.

Yes, I have been using the gamepad and the emulation works very well. And to be honest at 90hz in Rift CV1 and whatever wizardry you have going under the hood the mouse emulation feels like there is absolutely no lag at all. (I actually don’t notice any difference between tracking in Fallout 4 and native games)

All I meant was that in fallout 4 without emulation the onscreen prompts show “A button” instead of “Left Mouse Button”. Its a very very minor thing (and also only applies to a couple of games) and something I am sure after 5 minutes I won’t even notice it.

As I said nothing but positives this end. Been using the desktop viewer as well to watch videos etc. Certainly VorpX customers are getting a lot for the money. Credit where credit is due. If I didn’t own have Vorpx I would buy it again, no question.

    Hi Ralf,

Firstly I would like to say how incredibly impressed I am with the latest driver. Its a really polished experience. Fallout 4 is a real standout where it honestly feels as close to a native experience as I think possible. I can see myself spending a lot of time in VorpX.

One small issue is the “direct tracking” scanner. When I run it I get a small pause and then a “ding” sound, but after that tracking is lost. I’ve tried rerunning it quite a few times and as yet have never been able to get it working. Is there something I need to do? The other issue is once that is pressed I cannot seem to switch back to mouse/gamepad emulation. My trials have always been at the start of the game in your house where the guy knocks on the door.

Any advice you can give would be much appreciated.

Sorry for my bad english… I tried vorpx with battlefield 4 and fallout 4, but I have a problem ..
The game works but the view is not correct. In the screen that should display the game in vr, I have the impression to have before a 3D flat screen and a few centimeters.. Something does not work… I tried to correct the fov but not solve anything. No other setting makes me think of being in a game for the vr, but I only have the impression of being in front of a big screen 3D.
The game weapon remains too large, and changing the fov find myself only the closest background. I do not understand what could be the error. Thanks for your help

In regard to possible rendering glitches it might be best to stick to aspect ratios that are natively supported by the game. If you have glitches with uncommon resolutions that aren’t there otherwise, try something that the game supports directly, e.g. 1600×1200.

I’m not sure how this affects Skyrim, but Fallout 4 for example has various glitches with resolutions that are not really supported by the game. Considering that Skyrim is based on an older iteration of the same engine that might also be the case here.

Hey, I noticed something that could help some people. Once I closed VorpX, none of my games would run. Once I uninstalled it and reinstalled it then it works. But I found out that if you run VorpX in Admin, and then the game you want to play in Admin, then it works. Otherwise, the only way for my games to work were to reinstall VorpX then it worked for fallout 4, but it didn’t work for Arma 3, but once I ran VorpX as Admin, then Arma 3 as Admin, it ran. Just something that you might mention.

    Thanks, great program!!!

    Hopefully a quick question:

I have been successfully doing stereoscopic gaming for many years now using AMD cards and TriDef (went AMD for several reasons, including not wanting to be locked-into NVidia’s proprietary stereoscopic hardware and a much sharper post-processing AA option). I run Frame Packing 720p or SBS 1080p on both a 720p DLP and a Sony Playstation 3D display. Games include DAO, Fallout 3/NV, AC, Project Cars, DAI, Skyrim Etc. Etc.

However, TriDef is now in some sort of financial trouble and new profiles and support for new games is lagging. Fallout 4, which I very much wish to play in stereoscopic mode only works in their “power 3D” mode which is a fake-3D (I understand Vorpx offers a similar feature), which I just can’t tolerate, but not their true 3D mode.

How does Vorpx play with non OR / Vibe configurations? If it is just a stereoscopic injector like Tri-Def, but with some added head-tracking and other features it will probably work just fine for all of us long-time stereoscopic gamers out there. If it specifically looks for OR / Vibe hardware then it’s not going to work at all.

Anyone here have experience with Vorpx and traditional stereoscopic gaming configurations? Does it work?

Thanks! (And yes, I did google, and I did email Vorpx support directly. No info I could find, and Vorpx support never got back to me…)
