Hi Ralf, thanks a lot for your precious explanation and prompt reply. Yesterday evening I did a reset to default and all my Metro games (Redux and Exodus) are both listened under Restore Game Settings. I also checked the game config file and the FOV line has been changed from default to Vorpx one (59.something to 83). Unfortunately I don’t have original Metro game (I also tried to buy a “base” copy online but it seems that only Redux version is available).
I suppose I need to play with game settings in order to have a good balance between performance and eye candy.
Just one more question. Yesterday I switched from G3D to Z-Adaptive and performance were absolutely perfect also with High settings and a res of 2880×2160 (so even if is not like G3D it is a very good mode with a perfect balance between immersion/graphic/performance).
The “problem” is when I switch from G3D to Z-Adaptive, the scenery colours become more darker and zoom effect seems to be more pronounced like the screen is pushed on my face. May I ask you advices on how mend that darker colours (maybe play with game gamma setting?) and avoid that zoom effect (maybe work with FOV into ini file by increasing it?). Moreover, in order to increase image quality, I try to create from custom resolution a 3200×2400 but when I make the test windows freezed and I have to restart PC (even if I set 60Hz instead of my 144Hz). There are other higher custom resolution (over 2880×2160) which I can try?
Thanks a lot again for your kind support!

The performance warning may just flicker in occasionally because of loading hiccups or similar things. Just briefly checked the game start here on a 3080 and in the start location I get fairly solid 80/80 with default graphics settings at 1440p with occasional dips below that. You can check with ALT+F whether the warning is maybe just shown because of short hiccups.

Normally vorpX should indeed set the FOV automatically. Plrease try to reset the the profile to default in the config app and check whether you see the game listed under ‘Restore Game Settings’. In case of the Metro games vorpX adjusts the FOV by changing .ini values. If that worked as intended, you should see the game listed there.

If you still have access the the original Metro, it might be worth to check that out, probably runs better and IIRC DirectVR support also is a bit better.

BTW: In general keep in mind that with Geometry 3D everything has to be rendered twice, which typically costs about half the FPS, sometimes even more. On top of that there is a small additional overhead for rendering the final image to the headset. As long as you can keep up half the headset refresh rate all is well. GPU performance isn’t always the limiting factor, due to the twice as many draw calls that have to be submitted to DirectX, you can easily run in situations where a game’s main render thread saturates a CPU core. At that point a faster GPU doesn’t do anything.

Hi all, I’m new on Vorpx. I have a 9700k+3090+Reverb G2 and tried to have fun with Metro 2033 Redux with Vorpx. I imported the local profile and the game hooks perfectly, but already at the first presenting video, Vorpx shows me a red message on the upper left corner saying that the game is running lower than 45fps, and advice me to lower settings. I run the game with my native monitor res 1920×1080, medium settings, fullVR game mode and G3D.
Into the game, when I move forward/backward the character or turn left/right my headset indeed everything is juggering. Moreover the resolution is very poor and blurry (the image seems to be too zoomed in towards the screen).
    My questions are:
    1) is it possible that in G3D an old game like Metro is still so heavy for my system?
    2) how can I avoid that strong zoom effect I mentioned above? As far I read into the forum the local profile for Metro changes the FOV automatically so that I don’t need to bother about it.
    Thanks!

Just a heads-up that usually any settings changes vorpX applies are pretty important for a seamless experience. Even more so for FullVR games like Metro where vorpX makes sure that the game FOV precisely matches the FOV of your headset. Without automatic settings you would have to do that manually.

Fair enough, i’ll keep using existing profiles and maybe change some little bits to my liking.

That said, if you want to experiment with games that already have an official profile, your best bet is making a copy of the game‘s .exe and then create a new profile for that copied .exe.

Do you mean i can just copy the .exe file, name it differently, copy existing profile and assign the new .exe to it? What about in-game graphics options? Do they change for both .exe files, or do the games keep separate configuration files for both?

Gamepad: some games do not allow mouse and gamepad input at the same time.

The thing is, i tried both games on a flat screen before i enabled vorpX and gamepad was working just fine and i was able to change control settings in the game menu. After vorpX was enabled, i was only able to change controls for K+M (Redux version), but the gamepad options were inaccessible. I was able to play with it but not change the controls. In the original game, everything worked fine, including the controls options menu.

Btw. thanks for the response, it was very helpful ^^

That said, if you want to experiment with games that already have an official profile, your best bet is making a copy of the game‘s .exe and then create a new profile for that copied .exe. You can find a short introduction in that regard in the vorpX help. For games with DirectVR support as good as the Metro games there isn‘t really any point in doing that though.

Gamepad: some games do not allow mouse and gamepad input at the same time. Whenever that is a known issue with a game, vorpX‘s built in gamepad to mouse/keyboard mapper is used as long as vorpX has to emulate a mouse for head tracking. the alternative to that in games that dislike simultaneous mouse/gamepad input would be no gamepad at all (or no head tracking).

The good news: in games with memory scanner head tracking support (like Metro) gamepads work natively again after a successful scanner run, since with memory scanner head tracking no mouse emulation is necessary anymore.

Rule of thumb: if the gamepad to mouse/keyboard mapper is enabled in a profile, there usually is good reason for that.

    Hey guys,

i’m new to vorpX, watched a couple of guides on how to set it up and now i decided to try Metro 2033. I was curious how the original would run compared to the Redux version so i installed both. I understand that both games have “official” vorpX profiles localy available.

The original was running like a charm but Redux gave me some headache. After tinkering with the settings i lost track of what i did and came to a conclusion that i need some basic profile which doesn’t alternate in-game settings and that will be my basic setup to start with.

Doing so in-game though isn’t the quickest way as many changes do need restarting of the game or just crashes/showes black screen in VR.

So my question is – is there a way to edit vorpX Profile settings outside of the game itself? If there isn’t, how can i switch off or check at least some of the profile’s settings before i launch the game? I don’t want to let vorpX to change my graphics settings or the input settings (i was not able to edit gamepad settings on Metro Redux for example, because the game thought it was disconnected, while without vorpX it was working fine).

Btw. i bought my G2 just 2-3 weeks ago and after playing few games in it and trying vorpX, i just can’t go back playing them on flat screen :D. I’m really thankfull for this software as it’s really a gam changer for me. Thumbs up to everyone involved in the developement. Keep up the good work lads!

When I first got my CV1, one of the first thing I played with it was Metroid Prime using Dolphin VR, and this is still one of the best experience I’ve done in VR.

Dolphin VR has been discontinued a long time ago, but I was hoping with the release of OpenXR that the official Dolphin team would support VR, sadly it didn’t happen.

A couple of says ago, my crave for Metroid Prime in VR started again (I was playing the Wizards Enhanced Edition on my Reverb G2 and thought it would be awesome to have a remake of Metroid Prime in VR with those visuals).

So after searching a while I stumbled upon a tutorial on how to play the Metroid Prime Trilogy with mouse and keyboard as well as improved graphics using PrimeHack (a fork of Dolphin), and at the same time I saw a video of Beardo Benjo playing some GameCube games in 3D using vorpX and Dolphin (but in virtual 3D cinema mode).

So would it be possible to use that fork of Dolphin that works with mouse & keyboard to have Metroid Prime Trilogy working with vorpX in full VR Mode ?

I tried but vorpX didn’t hooked to Dolphin (I have the sound but only a loading Dolphin screen), any ideas ?

You alternately refer to the game as Metro Last Light, Metro Redaux (spelling?), and Metro Final Light (doesn’t exist)? Maybe there’s something I didn’t see because I just skimmed through the vid.

    Hi vorpX-ers,
So, Metro Last Light is free on the epic store, I thought of play test it tonight, the vorpX profile works but not fully, has anyone tried it and can share some wisdom?

Head tracking works but after using Direct VR scan, seems like the FOV fails and it all gets distorted and it’s not playable.
I’m wondering if Steam version is the same.

I’ve tried forcing FOV to the .cfg file, plus forced 4:3 resolution but it still fails. Tried using letterbox 1, 2… same

    Thank you,
    VRan

    shadow warior 1 G3D
    outlast 2 G3D
    mortal shell G3D
    borderlands 3 G3D
    metro exodus G3D

for all games except shadow warrior, i’m playing medium settings with 1920*1440 resolution.
not silky smooth but fully playable.

those are the games i’ve been busy with lately ^^

but to fully enjoy them i had to upgrade my computer and now i have a kickass one.

i wanted to play shadow warrior 2 but it runs so slow in G3D even on lowest settings, i think this game is very poorly optimized.

    Hey everyone,

So made a thread earlier in 2020 when lockdown started happening trying to get ideas for good games to play via Vorpx during the last year and wanted to make a new recommendation thread, if anyone was interested in posting their best Vorpx experiences.

My last thread I mentioned my favorite, before 2020, being modded 1st person Sekiro, 1st person Dark Souls 3, 1st Person Mass Effect Andromeda

So I didnt get to do as much Vorpx gaming in 2020 as I would have liked, but I would like to point out some great experiences I had in Vorpx in 2020

    So for new recommendations:

Resident Evil 7 – even with Z-Adaptive, not Geo3d. There were some issues with gun ghosting and shadows in Geo 3d for me, but Z-Adaptive didnt have those at all.

Seriously – if you were kinda bored with RE, I was too, but… this game is just a goddamn treasure and should be experienced by -ANYONE- with Vorpx. You can find it for like 8 bucks on Keys sites.

Metro Exodus was pretty fantastic as well, was happy with the direction that game took with the open world FPS design and surprised me with how well it ran in Vorpx.

Titanfall 2 – Ran incredibly smooth and just a great campaign in VR

On a more difficult recommendation, got Dark souls 2 to work in 1st person VR with Cheat Engine. That was a fun one, you could find the instructions online if you wanted to – but Id Recommend Sekiro or Dark Souls 3 before it, much easier to get up and running.

So anyone have any games they thought were particularly good to experience they want to point out in the last few months/year?

Thanks for your time and take care

Hi, new vorpX user here, I use the Quest 2 with Virtual Desktop for wireless play.

The first game I tried was Deus Ex: Human Revolution off Steam, it worked perfectly.

The second game I tried was Metro 2033 Redux off Epic Games, and all I see is the Metro 2033 Logo on the top right of the screen.

Not sure how to troubleshoot since I just got vorpX yesterday.

    Can anybody shed some light?

    Hey everyone

Got my Reverb G2 a couple of days ago and couldn’t be happier with it.

I Decided to try VorpX yesterday since I’ve heard great things about it.

Looked forward to trying out Battlefront 2 with it since it was a supported title, but I just couldn’t get it to hook. Went back to the essential tips and looked at numerous support sections. But I just can’t get it to work. Everytime I try to start a game it just loads up on my main screen like there’s no headset.

I get no Vorpx logo or indication that it is actually interacting with the game.

    Titles I’ve tried so far:

    SW Battlefront 2
    Fallout 4
    Metro Exodus

Atleast one of these titles should work in my opinion.

I’ve tried disabling all overlays and uninstalled malwarebytes. I’ve done a reinstall of VorpX but nothing really changes.

Am i going in the wrong order?
    1. Plug in my reverb G2 power
    2. Put on headset.
    3. WMR loads with cliffhouse
    4. I start Vorpx from desktop
    5. I load the metro exodus profile from “local profiles”
    5. I start Steam VR
    6. I run the game which tells me it’s not natively supporting VR.
    7. The game loads up as a normal desktop game anyway.

    Some Specs
    Windows 10 with latest update
    Amd ryzen 7 3800x
Gigabyte RX 5700 XT with latest drivers
    32Gb Hyper X 3200mhz

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    /Jon

    Thanks for the fast reply!
I run a system with Windows 10 pro. Frameworks is at 4.8 and it seems i can´t downgrade it.
As i wanted to play Metro Redux, I recognized, that VorpX wanted to host it because i had forgotten to quit VorpX after another try to get it to run. However it doesnt work..
