Y went there for Metro 2033, and the image looks perfect, but DirectVR isn’t working, so I can’t look up and down. It says rotation scan OK, but doesn’t work.

The game should work just fine under normal circumstances. However, if you can’t make it work, try the regular Metro 2033 version. I’m not 100% sure anymore, but IIRC that would preferable anyway to to more complete DirectVR support.

Also checking the ‘alternative hooking’ checkbox in the vorpX config app is always worth a shot. Caveat: Don’t forget to switch back even if that helps with a game. It’s not better per se, some game require the default hooking method.

Apart from that:

Problems with attaching to games typically are related to conflicts with other programs on your PC that also hook into games. Obvious candidates would be CPU/GPU utilities of any kind or some invasive AV programs, but there are also less obvious ones. Generally everything that can show an overlay over games for example. Since you are a 3D-Vision user, please also make sure that 3D-Vision is disabled.

The good news is #2 worked for Dishonored. It did happen to have a different .exe name so once that was fixed it worked. The bad news for me personally is it just isn’t inviting enough for me to want to play it with VorpX. Its more like a 360 video than 3D. And I just couldn’t get the settings to minimize distortion while head turning enough to be enjoyable.

Metro Exodus falls under #1. (I think I clue for that might be is that the game icon even says “Metro Exodus (Windows)”

On a side note, Ralf, I sent you an email a few days ago regarding older versions of Vorpx and Evil Within 2. Let me know if you got it when you get a chance. Thank you for your help!

Just wanting to confirm that in general, most Game Pass games don’t work with VorpX?

Actually, Outer Worlds DOES run with VorpX (Albeit no well for me) but Dishonored 2 and Metro Exodus do NOT. I think the reason might be that Dishonored 2 and Metro are configured/assumed to run via Steam whereas Outer Worlds may have been specifically configured to work with Game Pass since it is not yet available on Steam.

Ralf might you be able to confirm?

I tried creating a VorpX shortcut as per the troubleshooting guide but the Dishonored2.exe file won’t allow access. Is there a known workaround for this?

Hey everyone,

So ive been with Vorpx for awhile and with Lockdown 2020 going on… i assume a fair amount of us are largely indoors, looking for games to play (maybe getting bored of the games we got since we are this far into it.)

So – I thought, may not be a horrible idea to share what Vorpx experiences we had that we thought were exceptionally good (or just exceptionally unique and need to be experienced)

So, Im offering my top picks here and some of them require Mods.

First of all – Dark Souls 3 with First Person Mod.

Now, to use this mod it does require you basically “not using” many of the games mechanics. You cant really use the Lock On ability because the first person camera mod basically makes Lock on go TOTALLY insane… So you pretty much are stuck playing the game as a quick 2 handed character. Now, this sounds awful, but once you get the flow of things (and things are indeed easier to dodge in first person – you see those swings coming) you will be massacring the Dark Souls 3 monsters with well timed rolls and a solid 2 handed weapon.

Now, I dont want anyone to feel like Im sending them to their deaths here, so there is a GREAT 2 handed weapon available at the start of the game, after you kill the first boss.

Watch that video and he will lead you to the best two handed option early in game that you can level up and use all the way to the end of the game – im not lying, beat the game with zero lock on and just dodging and using that sword, leveling it up as i went. So unfortunately – Shield blocks and Spellcasting are kinda out of the window since Lock on doesnt work right… but its still an incredible experience to see the beautifucally horrific monsters in Dark Souls 3 up close and the ‘fun part’ is – your sword SWINGS where you are ‘looking’ – so there is some degree of motion controls because you will be slashing at one dude and turn your head to hit his buddy and your sword slash WILL follow your ‘face’… so you aim with your head.. its kinda glorious and fun if youre a Dark Souls Fan.

Anyways, Dark Souls 3 is totally playable like this (if youre a souls fan, i think most of us agree, Dark Souls 3 is far and away the easiest of the bunch, so this isnt impossible. Now this does use CheatEngine so you want to be playing offline for this mod)

Next up, Sekiro with a first person mod.

This one I have NOT finished the game yet – but – it seems to work much better than the Dark Souls 3 mod, it doesnt make the camera go wonky on lock ons so you can lock onto your enemies and “stand your ground” as you normally would in Sekiro (and parries seemed WAY easier in first person, seeing when their sword is about to hit you is alot easier when theyre right in your face)

This one is much easier to get up and running, dont need to worry about getting a specific sword and everything. For extra fun – if you wanted to feel a bit more like Spider Man + Sekiro, you can increase the range of your grapple hook as well, this one is just for funsies, but fuck it,youre modding the game anyhow :P

So thats the end of my Souls recommendations haha.

Onto some other fun ones. GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas and GTA 4 all have First person mods and work great in Vorpx. GTA5 has a few VR mods out there and i havent dug into it yet to know whats better or not, but you can get first person mods for Vice City and San Andreas and 4 and experience driving your car in first person, looking over your shoulder (they actually have an animation where when you look into your blind spot you see your characters shoulder leaning back like in real life to check a blind spot lol).. and being in VR listening to the absurd radio shows that pop up on there is just alot of fun.

Also just great out of the box experiences – All the Metro games. Even though it doesnt have full 3d I found a good profile for Evil Within 2 and that game features a good first person mode, it might be fun for survival horror fans to just put it up on immersive screen mode.. it was a ton of fun when I played it.

Just trying to give some recommendations to my fellow Vorpxers about games that are out there that are alot of fun.

I have much more higher performance in the Resident Evil 2 with more higher settings.
I heard that this problem is not only mine:

hi, ray tracing only work with directx 12, you will need to wait for these games to fully works with directx 12 in vorpx, which is not the case actually.

I’ve already buy metro exodus and waiting for vorpx to be able to run it with direct x12 for quite some time :)

Ok, so I found how to make it work. In steamvr menu you have to go to the control options and add a new controller layout instead the standard controls, choose cybershoes instead of vive/oculus/index controllers, then create a new layout, select trackpad default (it worked for me), work as trackpad, then on click select lbuttonpad0, on touch select ltouchpad0, and on position select laxispad0. I tested with Metro 2033 Redux and worked great, it was a bit too fast so I’ll have to play with the usb emitter speed controls.

For this to work the vive/oculus/index left controller must be on, so I wonder if there’s any way to hide controllers visually but still be active on vorpx, since I want to use an xbox controller, which works fine with this setup.

Hi guys,

First time post, a new starter with vorpX, and loving the experience so far. I’m trying out Metro Exodus with my CV1, and one of the things I’m finding most difficult is aiming. You need to use iron sights to be accurate, but obviously the magic done by vorpX means that you’re aiming somewhere different if you close your left eye versus your right, and it’s not clear what the game is actually firing at.

The suggestion I’ve seen is using Alt-X whilst in iron sight mode to help out with aiming. I assume that Alt-X is not a toggle, but only active as long as you press it?

It doesn’t visibly seem to do anything, but I bound that to the right mouse button anyway so that both iron-sight aiming turns on AND Stereo 3D turns OFF at the same time.

Are there any other suggestions? Is there a way to bind the ‘real’ sight to one eye so that you can close one as if you’re actually shooting?

Hi,

I just bought Metro Exodus from Steam and the game is not attaching. I’ve also tried the alternative method with no luck. The other games that I have are working correctly so I asume that the problem relies with this version from Steam. The game was lauched in Steam last mont. BTW, I’m using the Generic VR Heaset (desktop mode).

Any help will be really appreciated.

Anybody know why I get a tiny flicker while playing in Full VR mode?

It is like I get a tiny flick of a previous frame while I am playing. It is not something that is a serious problem. It doesn’t prevent me from playing. It is just annoying.

It (perhaps) occurs when the frame rate drops (but I am not so sure about that)?

It happens in Geometry or “Z” mode. It has occurred in all of the three games I’ve tested so far (Tomb Raider 2013 (dx9), Half Life 2 Episode 1 (dx9), and Metro Exodus (dx 11)). It doesn’t seem to happen in desktop mode.

Is there anything I can do about it? Is it a bug?
