ParticipantRalf, the video you showed recently with Skyrim head tracking, was that accomplished with a DK2, a Hydra or some other method of tracking.? I assumed it was a DK2, so I was immediately interested. However…..
I ask this, because I purchased Vorpx due to that video showing head tracking in Skyrim working. I would have waited before buying if its not DK2 tracking..
I guess Im saying, Im a bit fed up, especially after reading the above post..It dosent read very good..Aug 21, 2014 at 3:12pm #16269In reply to: When can we expect an update?

August 8: We have our DK2s for two weeks now, a blink of the eye in software development. The DK2 update is just not ready. The moment I know a timeframe, you will know it too. Thanks for your amazing patience.
August 12: More specific news will follow shortly. Stay tuned. Please keep in mind that we probably don’t have our DK2 any longer than you have yours. Thanks again for your patience.

You can get Skyrim working with DK2 and Vireio Perception, but it’s really bad. It’s worth waiting for vorpX.

ParticipantHi Raif – The video you did with Skyrim and the DK2 looked great. I’ll probably purchase vorpx when you release it to test with my OR DK2. As a developer I completely understand its difficult to both develop and respond to impatient fans. I’m sure it’s not like you need or want any advice at this point but I’m going to throw some out there anyway. One way to placate your fans (short of a release) would be to spend a couple of minutes blogging about the challenges and progress. Takes 5 minutes and people get to vicariously take the journey with you to some extent. It’s far more efficient than responding to forum posts wanting release dates. Just my .02c. …And to those who have been wanting smaller releases this sounds good in theory but developers are often ‘wary’ of minor releases but they have to be concerned about the installer and upgrade installs and if files are not closed etc. Lots of little releases can potentially cause all sorts of support headaches. One way around this is to architect your primary memory resident executable so you can encapsulate more of your updated minor features within that one file. That way the update process has little that can fail.

ParticipantI think part of the problem was 1. the recent news update, plus 2. your past history of updating.
1. The recent “preview” screamed as if a new version of vorpX had Skyrim working with positional tracking. I know I bought it just for that reason, and I know now others have as well. Even though it stated in the article that it technically wasn’t out. The impression gave, that it was just around the corner.
2. From reading other comments on this forum, it seemed like you have done this before. You released the product, got a bunch of sales, and then didn’t update for a very long time. Although in this case, you didn’t release anything, and I bet you got a bump in sales with that article.
Teasing Skyrim as working with positional tracking, and then saying well I have no timeline on when it will be released, makes it appear as if you are not even close to having it ready, or your starting from scratch, which is opposite of what the recent article and video imply.
If this was free software, or much cheaper, I think most people could stomach the long release times. And I know I’ll probably get flamed for sounding impatient. But, at what point in software development, where you are taking peoples money beforehand, do you say, this isn’t right. And I am not basing this off of the DK2 update only because you are right in saying it hasn’t been that long. I am referring to vorpX since the beginning.
I think the advice given was fair. It would be better to provide smaller, more frequent updates, instead of giant releases. Having a Skyrim only update would suffice for many, since apparently you have most of it worked out according to the video. Even if things were messed up, it should still be playable, and we could look forward to updates when it is all fixed up.
I too have no way of really using your software after I bought it. No rotational or positional tracking for DK2 in any game I’ve tried.
I have no issue waiting for software, but the price of admission, and the amount of time you take to update seems dubious. I feel cheated giving $40 for something that doesn’t work much at all. I know that is my personal opinion, but I also know I am not the only person with that opinion.
I do want to say that I appreciate your customer service. It’s been really good.

BlockedAfter reading roadtovr article about compatibility with skyrim in DK2 i ran to buy your product.
Now I find that really they are reviewing a not public version, right?. I think that this is not a good policy.
When i try to use the product i find that no head movement is detected by vorpx, not the camera (i know i must wait for the update), the rift alone. When I turn the head the image turns with me, i can´t look around is as i have a monitor glued to my head.
I tested it with fallout3, i tried stopping and starting the oculus service, the program opens ok in the dk2 forcing it with vorpx control. I tried using system config but the problem is the same.Am I doing anything wrong?
Excuse my english, it isn´t my native language.

ParticipantHi Ralf,
By Head tracking, i mean “like DK1” not tracking with IR camera.
By the way, I see a video of someone playing skyrim with all head tracking (normal + IR camera) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PE7Icj0PO-4As you can see in my post, I followed the instructions from your link, but despite that, vorpx does not detect the head tracking.
I thought it was the IR headtracking but once in game, no way to turn my head, the image remains fixed.Thank’s for your answers.

ParticipantIts the DK2, it runs on different software. Im sure he is trying to get the positional tracker working for most games. He (I think it was him) already got it working for Skyrim but im sure he is just testing it and fixing bugs at this point.
My god, I’m a monster who needs to be stopped.

Ralf
KeymasterThe “dominant eye” (shifting only one view) technique doesn’t work very well in VR, that at least was my conclusion. To be honest, I don’t think it works very well at all. vorpX worked that way first, but it’s often just awkward since your visual location gets slightly offset from your real ingame location this way, leading to a wrong yaw rotation axis, issues with collision detection etc.
I will look into a 3D crosshair at a later point in time, but would generally suggest to disable crosshairs whenever possible for the most immersive experience. In Skyrim that can be done in the game options. Doesn’t make games exactly easier of course, but at least for me a crosshair right in the center of my view is highly immersion breaking.

ParticipantHi all,
Long time lurker, first time poster.Very much looking forward to the next VorpX release, we’re really at the bleeding edge and it’s talented devs like Ralf are doing the cuttin’
In the meantime I’ve been playing DK2 Skyrim (Skyrift, if you will) using hacked DLLs for Vireio Perception and encountered some common 3D / VR issues and was curious as to how these are handled in VorpX.
The usual HUD / menu issues I’ve managed to work around using ini tweaks and SkyUI addons, but the 2D crosshair, as always, is an issue.
So my question is this: How does VorpX handle the 2D crosshair issue? Is there a 3D crosshair / dot sight or does it use a dominant eye method a la Tridef (which actually, I think I’d prefer)?

ParticipantWhen the vorpX DK2 Skyrim update gets released will there be other games that also have DK2 compatibilty with vorpx or will this happen some time later?

ParticipantHi Ralf
I just purchased a copy of Vorpx in eager anticipation of the new release relating to Skyrim. I drool at the thought of running round Skyrim modded to hell and back with HD textures and a bazzilion mods, all running at 75fps using Vorpx and my DK2. (I have a nice fast pc)
Dare I ask what timeframe we looking at a release. Days or weeks? Eitherway its great news you sorted geometry based rendering, and head tracking. Looks amazing fun.. Cant wait to try it..
