I got WOW in Z3D(Z-Normal) working quite well using DirectX 11(non-legacy). I uploaded the WOW profile settings to the cloud to share.
Follow these instructions to get Z3D to work:
1. Set game setting ‘Graphics API’ to ‘DirectX 11’ every time WOW is opened.(WOW automatically sets game to DX12 every time opened for some reason, after new update)
2. Press F11 2x in game for Z3D to work and when image squishes.(Can bind F11 to different key in game keybinding settings> miscellaneous > window mode)
3. Set game setting ‘Anti-Aliasing’ to ‘None’ or ‘Image-Based Techniques’.
4. Set game setting ‘Optional GPU feautures’ to ‘Check mark’.
5. Set game setting ‘Ambient Occlusion Type’ to ‘FidelityFX CACAO’.
6. Set game setting ‘Display Mode’ to ‘Windowed”.
This works for all versions of WOW classic I’ve tested. I have not tested it on WOW retail. I tested with Nvidia 3080ti GPU and Valve index HMD. Not quite as good as G3D but better than flat and can turn graphics settings way up.
Hi Ralf,
I’ll ask straight away, is there any chance that there will ever be an update or even a completely new product that will geometrically support 3D in DX12?
Z3D is not always good and for DX12 is a few profiles only.
For Z3D in all API exists functional replacement, I purposely do not mention which.
For full geometry 3D in DX12 mods are slowly emerging, but they are quite complicated. But fully functional including “SingleFrameStereo”.
VorpX is much more user friendly. Thank you..
Hello Ralf,
With the latest WOW patch today, it looks like all versions of classic WOW have patched out the option to use legacy DirectX 11, making vorpX G3D unusable. Will there be a new beta version of vorpX available for download with the new updated DirectX 11 vorpX WOW profile? Thanks!
ALT+L (DirectVR scan):
The DirectVR scanner does easy 1:1 head tracking and/or FOV adjustment. The screen that gets displayed during the scan shows what exactly is supported in a particular game.
How often the scan has to be done depends on the game. Ranges from only when a game gets updated in case the memory addresses are fixed and thus can be cached between game starts, over once per game launch (the most commmon case) to once per level/savegame load.
Resolution (copy/paste reply from the post below yours, but should largely answer your question):
For fully featured DirectVR profiles vorpX has game specific code that lets you set the resolution in the vorpX menu in various steps. If that’s the case vorpX displays an according hint in the top/left corner of the game window and in the headset.
If not, you can always adjust the resolution in the game options yourself, just like you would do when playing on your monitor.
Also make sure to read the ‘Custom Resolutions’ section in the vorpX help. It explains how to add resolutions to your PC that your monoitor can’t display. Alternativly you can use the new virtual monitor in vorpX 24.1.0, which comes with all important resolutions predefined and thus saves you the somewhat tedious process of setting up custom resolutions.
Hi!
Just bought Vorpx and I’ve only played with it for two evenings. Got some questions that I didn’t find answers for.
Vorpx works and I’ve played Metro Last Light Redux with it for abit. Setting the game resolution is problematic, granted that this game has problems of its own with setting the resolution in windowed mode but heres what happens :
– If I just start the game with Vorpx running and use the automated settings, it wants to use a very low resolution (1600×1200 or something like that). I can change the resolution in-game, but that garbles the graphics (this is because of the windowed mode, not because of Vorpx, the graphics go weird even in flat mode if the game is not fullscreen). So not a Vorpx problem, it is the game not liking windowed mode.
– If I run the game through Vorpx Desktop Viewer, the resolution goes up, but now I can’t choose the resolution at all (the game locks the resolution to something weird like 5124×1440 (is that an ultrawide reso or something?), can’t remember the exact resolution but it was about that). Ok, the game is playable with this resolution, but I am still wondering why I can’t change the resolution in desktop viewer situation. I tried to turn the automatic resolution thing off, but that didn’t seem to do anything. I have created a plethora of custom resolutions into Nvidia control panel and if I understand correctly, it is recommended to run games in 4:3 aspect ratio or close to that for best results. And ofcourse I feel like I’d want to up the resolution a bit (getting near constant 120fps according to the Vorpx FPS thingy with this reso) cause the graphics still look a bit pixelated in the distance. Yes, I am new with Vorpx and I might be doing something wrong here, but thats why I am here :)
-Another tech question not related to resolution – is the ALT+L thing something that should be done once you are in-game and in full vr? I ask this because if i tap ALT+L once in-game, it reduces mouselook to just horizontal movement and if I don’t tap ALT+L I have full mouselook in both axis. Using the ALT+L also seems to remove the Y-axis options completely from the Vorpx menu (delete key), again, if I don’t tap the ALT+L, the menus have all the Y-axis options (and I do want full mouselook, especially in first person games).
Im running Win 11 (all the latest updates), RTX 4080, Pimax Crystal HMD.
Thanks!
Since there hasn’t been an update to vorpX recently, nothing happend on the vorpX end. Something must have happened on your end. Unfortunately it is not possible to tell from here what might have happended on your PC from your issue description.
Here’s what you should check:
To get the obvious stuff out of the way: Make sure that: A. ‘Oculus’ is selected in the vorpX config app as your headset type, B. You have the Oculus/Meta Link app installed and it is working correctly.
If that does not help and you happen to have the Windows system restore feature enabled, go back to a restore point from before the issue started to occur.
If you happen to be on 24.1.0 please go back to the last regular vorpX build or vice versa.
Also for cinema/immersive screen mode you may have to disable automatic weapon handling on the DirectVR page of the menu. This feature currently garbles the image at camera FOVs lower than what vorpX sets in FullVR mode. Will be addressed in the next update.
The current version of the mod works fine with 2.13 normally. Occasionally game updates break the mod, hence the warning. Currently however the warning really just is a warning and everything works as expected under normal circumstances.
The most likely cause for your problem is some other mod getting in the way or some background program you may have running that also hooks into games, e.g. a GPU/CPU tool, a messenger, a game recording app or whetever else may display overlays in games and thus may cause a conflict.
I am running Cyberpunk 2077 v2.13 and it is crashing as soon as the game launches.
I am getting a popup saying that the mod was built for 2.12 and doesn’t support 2.13.
Will there be an update to resolve this?
I never tried Titanfall 2 with VorpX but I know it works very well from others.
Maybe try to launch it without VorpX, and set it on DirectX11 or DirectX9 (VorpX doesn’t like DX10 and DX12 because it can’t render G3D, so sometimes official profiles only works with DX9 or DX11).
Did you try the hook helper, and alternate hooking ?
Some unofficial profiles requires to create a direct shortcut instead of launching VorpX (right click on VorpX in taskbar > create shortcut).
Sometimes you just have to wait and it works again (auto-update I presume), or use another version of VorpX (but I never had to and I tried a lot of games).
@Ralf:
I would recommend not touching the mechanism that vorpx hooks into dgvoodoo2 (current DGVoodoo2 Profile) because this may break hundrets of profiles. If i may make a suggestion, explicitely make a new profile for the version that currently doesnt work.
If i may point on the many profiles i made:
Most of these are using v2.6. Only a few 2,7. Profiles having no version info, you may use v2.6 or lower down to 2.5.
Note: I have a few DGVoodoo2 Z3D profiles as well on the cloud for DX6 and Glide, using v2.6 !
Since each profile is different i recommend going through them until you find one that works.
You may also take note of this list https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=62198 , hasent benn updated for a while though.
It would also affect updates lol.. I’d have to keep track of every executable and IF I need to redo the copy and rename… Not the best solution (at least in my head lol)
If you have any problems hooking one of these games, and happen to be on 24.1.0, please roll back to 21.3.5.
General hint:
When suddenly something doesn’t work that did work before while there hasn’t been any vorpX update, either a game update broke something or a change on your PC did. In this case it’s the latter for sure.
First off many many thanks,
The running in the foreground issue was something I had considered, though not exactly sure of the cause and effect. Though frustrated , I’m also amused right now because it did this as after I did the CET update and Microsoft framework update as well. I figured I didnt know what I was doing, reinstalling, rereading one word at a time and making sure I didnt misinterpret or miss anything. In essence it was probably good to go, just perpetuating this weird issue – but I am still incredibly grateful for your standalone update as it allows for me to narrow things down…. and you make good software :)
As far as clicking on the window , Im assuming you mean- the game on the actual desktop , to ensure Cp2077 is in the foreground. Will look into this as well.
Im fanatical about expunging bloatware, and do not over AV my system like at all, but one detail you mentioned caught my attention. I had programmed a steering wheel/pedal setup to work with the game while driving. And I am going to look into this today-Though its not being used at the moment (to simplify troubleshooting) Basically a driver and x360ce which at this moment im targeting as potential suspects.
Though my issue is probably one in a million, if I find out a solution I will post on the off chance someone else struck by a unicorn as well.
Thanks again,
TJP
You can indeed ignore the version warning. I just forgot to change the version check before uploading the update. Thanks for the heads-up.
Concerning your issue the only two things I can really think of here is that either the game isn’t running in foreground and thus doesn’t have input focus. That could be remedied by clicking into its windows once.
The second, option would be some input releated app running in the background that interferes. Some extra annoying AV programs might e.g. try to protect you from keyloggers for example. So if you happen to use anything else than Windows Defender, get rid of it. Windows Defender will kick in instead. Also maybe some hardware vendor fluff-/bloatware, e.g. from Razer or Logitech might potentially get in the way, although that isn’t very likely.
