jjenssonParticipantNVM. I just researched the topic: The VR mods are for the BFG version of Doom 3. But i don’t see the problem: Doom 3 BFG has better lighting and better gameplay anyway.
Given that neither VorpX nor HelixVision will run Doom 3, you really have only 2 choices. Play it native on Quest (you lose stencil shadows, the signature shadows of Doom 3), or play Doom 3 BFG w- VR mod (you still can play wireless).
Anyone correct me, please, if i’m spreading wrong info here.
jjenssonParticipantI don’t really care TBH. My immersion comes from stereo3D, good lighting, an interesting world and a story that gets me hooked. Last year my GOTY 2020 was not HL: Alyx, but instead Jedi: Fallen Order played with VorpX. []-)
jjenssonParticipantIs the Fully Posessed mod only for BFG? Why do you not want the BFG version of D3, is it worse than the original? (i’m probably confusing all those mods and versions…)
jjenssonParticipantReddit is the worst with their vote system. Negative posts about VorpX are highly visible, but when you post something positive, you get downvoted to hell.
I love what Ralf is doing, but his marketing is way behind. Luckily we have YouTubers like Beardo Benjo and Stereo 3D Productions (not very active ATM) that regularly use VorpX and vlog about it.
jjenssonParticipantnVidia supports what is popular and brings them money. I see VR getting very popular in the next 10 years.
Personal experience: Since my number one immersion factor in games is physically “correct” lighting, i waited for years for Ambient Occlusion to get mainstream. And then it happened – i stopped comparing gaming engines and just enjoyed the games. A bit later nVidia implemented AO in the driver for many old games that didn’t have it in-engine, and i was beyond happy.
That’s why i like nVidia (and because i can use them productively in my workstation, unlike AMD, but that’s besides my point here). I dream of a day when they will do with VR what they did with AO, on a driver level, for all those wonderful classic PC games.
BTW, my understanding is that nVidia killed 3D in the driver, because it wasn’t popular, and because they realized VR was on the way to replace that stuff in the near future.
Honestly, i don’t really give a damn about VR, i just want to play my games in Stereo3D, and if i gotta do it with an HMD, so be it. []-)
jjenssonParticipantYou can find it on Nexus, but beware – the SE port is still not finished and when played in SkyrimVR the cutscenes don’t play (there could be more issues, i’m just reporting what i heard).
But fear not, people are working on this (we should really appreciate those modders who are doing such things for free and giving so much to the community).
jjenssonParticipantI would like to know as well, but i doubt that we’ll receive any answer.
Despite VorpX not being very popular (in my perception), these days with VR going more and more mainstream, the VorpX userbase grows as well.
And the need for such apps grows too. So, currently, we have HelixVision (not as good as VorpX, but it supports some games that VorpX doesn’t) and ReShade with stereo3D plugin (don’t know details on that one).
It’s looking good, i’d say. (My secret dream is about nVidia buying VorpX and integrating it into the driver. But i’m not sure if Ralf would like the idea… []-)
jjenssonParticipantRJ, i noticed that in the list there’s only Descent 2. Are the other Descent games not playable in VorpX?
I just purchased Overload, which can be played in VR natively, and i thought about the old games and wondered if i can play them on my Quest 2 as well…
jjenssonParticipantThanks, now it works. I often like to share the link to your site, so people are aware how much games VorpX is capable of running. It doesn’t help VorpX if those links point to an error page…
I greatly appreciate that you are maintaining this list – there is nothing comparable out there.
jjenssonParticipantERROR: 403 – Access from your IP address has been blocked for security reasons.
What’s up with that?
jjenssonParticipantIs it already known how big the performance plus will be, 2080 -> 3080, or 2070S -> 3070? I’m interested in the 3080, but i don’t know if it’s worth it – i have an RTX 2070 Super currently.
jjenssonParticipantI’m jealous. Can’t afford to pay full price for a game, so i’ll wait. But definitely looking forward to play Death Stranding in VorpX.
jjenssonParticipantRJK, what is the issue with your website being accessible only if one has good luck? Just now i tried to follow one of your links and it says “ERROR: 403 – Access from your IP address and/or your browsername has been blocked for security reasons.”
jjenssonParticipantGreat infos, Ralf, thank you!
Looks like the WMR HMDs would have an advantage because they can run in 60Hz mode.
Oh, and i didn’t know that uneven frame-interpolation was even possible. Always thought that FPS<80=instant_half_frame_rate, in this case for Rift S.
jjenssonParticipantAh, bummer.
