Consider buying Pinnacle Game Profiler. It’s really come in handy a lot when I’m using vorpx. And is way better than Vorpx’s own controller support. I even use it in games with native controller support for edge peek and camera reset hotkeys. It’s apparently always on sale.
http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/TiggerdyretParticipantI just finished Dishonored, which I never got into outside VR. Man was it a ride. I’ll definitely consider playing the second game in cinema mode.
TiggerdyretParticipantIt’s a timed exclusive on PSVR, so it’s gonna come to the Vive and will probably run on Oculus with at hack as well. But Bethesda is owned by Zenimax, which sued Oculus and hates their guts, so we can’t know if they will put in an effort to exclude Oculus.
TiggerdyretParticipantI only have a top 3 myself as I don’t want to include games I haven’t truly played. I have tried a lot that either didn’t run well enough or wasn’t supported yet.
1. Dishonored: It works so well in VR. No big hands and very little tweaking before it ran perfectly. I really like the gameplay for VR. Stealthing + being a completely OP character is such a rush in VR. It plays well with a controller. I mapped D-up and D-Down to “Reset Cam” and “Edge Peek” through Pinnacle game profiler, and then ran the rest of the controls with the games controller support, which works perfectly. I decided to just set it up manually without Direct VR, because the scan only works in some places. 19020×1440 runs fine on my gtx 980. I also set the image zoom to 0.70 and fov to 90, which helped with the alaising and image quality and weirdly also made the player height seem more natural.
2. New Vegas. This is just such great game, but took a lot of time to set up with a decent mod list. I made guide on how to set it up manually as Direct VR wasn’t out, when I played it. Took a lot of time to set up, but played so well. I think I spent 40 hours in VR in that game.
3. Bioshock Infinite. The game looks gorgeous, though the gameplay is nauseating. But it is fun flashing through the sky. I haven’t played that much, but I might give it another whirl, when my VR tolerance has increased again.
TiggerdyretParticipantTo anyone interested I found that decreasing the image zoom to 00.70 (maybe it’s just 70) and decreasing the fov to 90 in manual mode the aliasing less intrusive because of the higher pixel density. It also fixed the character height making it feel more natural than 110 and full image zoom. I you are using direct vr the fov should adjust automatically when you decrease the image zoom, but I don’t know if the pixel density will increase. My resolution is 1920×1440 and the fps is a solid 45fps on Oculus with my gtx 980.
TiggerdyretParticipantThanks. I ended up buying the 4790k anyway. The deal was so good the I might break even, when selling my 4670k. My 4670k was, by the way, a fairly bad batch, so I haven’t had any luck overclocking it. The 4790k should hopefully do better and would also help with my music production.
TiggerdyretParticipantCool. Thanks for spending time doing this. Could you make one for Dishonored?
TiggerdyretParticipantNo.
TiggerdyretParticipantYou can change the first person fov in the vorpx menu. Just pull back in your chair when resetting view and move forward again, so your arms don’t seem so long. Not a perfect solution by any means, and I would rather give immersive first person view another look personally, but it might work for you.
TiggerdyretParticipantI also had this issue last time i tried New Vegas right after the update. I wasn’t supersampling then and was running the game in 1920×1440
TiggerdyretParticipantThesugi:
firstly, it’s hard to promise that what you want will definitively work, but there is a very big chance that it will. Mirro’s Edge should work, but The Witcher 2 doesn’t have G3D, which is the true 3D mode. Here is a list of games that have been confirmed to work by the community: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nD_HyS8v_zKf9MZ3OYVpdnKAJBeMycGTgFmaJ639Oyg/edit#gid=0
Secondly, Vorpx is not hard to setup, but will require patients in some cases and could take a long time to get right. But it depends and it’s getting easier and easier with each update. Some games like HL2, Portal 1-2, Skyrim, bioshock 1-inf and a few more even have Direct VR mode, which makes it work perfectly with a simple scan. But you can always play any game in cinema or desktop mode without much hassle.TiggerdyretParticipantI had this problem and turned positional tracking off, which fixed it until I went to the testing chamber, where I turned it on again and could suddenly walk in the air. Turned it off again and the camera was back to my characters position. It doesn’t matter that much, ’cause I probably wouldn’t play with Direct VR until the fixed directionel portal bug is dealt with… If possible at all. That just a person deal breaker, but I might try to set it up well in the normal VR mode. It must be so trippy to fly through portals on the later stages :)
TiggerdyretParticipantTry it out. When you load into the first level after the tutorial withg positional tracking on, you are stuck under the stage. It didn’t help me to re-center.
TiggerdyretParticipantHave you turned positional tracking on? It needs to be off for portal.
TiggerdyretParticipantCool, thans for the info will I’ll try definitely try this game out with Direct VR then.
