With direct VR it’s close to native, but there still some pretty big bugs in most games. Giant hands in Skyrim… The game resetting direction, when walking into a Portal in Portal. Had a menu problem in New Vegas, but it might have been fixed in the latest hotfix. If you just want stuff to work out of the box I still wouldn’t recommend it. If you are willing to tweak or use mods, some games like Skyrim or New Vegas can play absolutely amazingly, though unwanted problems can still pop-up from time to time even in these games. I played about 40 hours of New Vegas in Vorpx and even with the issues it was still was an amazing VR experience, and way more fun than any of the 4 hour VR games I’ve tried so far. It felt like a true VR experience except for a little hassle with the menu, which was alleviated with some clever controller settings.
Vorpx is an amazing app and by far the best VR purchase I’ve made so far. Even if you the games you want to play aren’t quite there yet is is still absolutely amazing to walk around in you favorites games, just how they look in VR. And though very few games feel native. You can almost always find a compromise, that makes something playable. I for instance plan on playing Skyrim Special Edition in z-buffered 3D with headtracking as my gpu isn’t strong enough ton handle True 3D in that game.

Good to hear. I still don’t see why there shouldn’t be an off switch to auto-updates. Updates may unexpectantly break something, especially in the case of software like Vorpx that rely on so many different variables for each game. Any self-respecting software, even much simpler software, has this feature. And it’s not like the generals tab of Vorpx is cluttered compared to other apps.

One of the purposes of Direct VR is to overwrite the games’ fov, so that’s surely it. But can’t say more than that since I wasn’t playing with DirectVR.
I had a problem where the fov would constantly reset in the old version of Vorpx, though. The fov mod that I listed in my guide fixed that problem.

I think the newest version of Vorpx introduces problems with the pip-boy in edge peek mode. You have to have the hud scaled to 100% or else makes it a smaller box in the corner and the mouse doesn’t adjust to the smaller fit. A work around would be to leave it at 100% and adjust the UI with mods. I made a guide for getting New Vegas working perfectly well with just a few hiccups here and there. I played 40 hours in VR with this guide. Most of it is still relevant. But this guide was made before Direct VR was implemented. Either use the normal view or adjust to Direct VR yourself. Check it out here:

Why is there a visual representation of the controllers? Does it do anything. Can you interact with the environment?

New Vegas also has a similar problem with the pip-boy if the hud scale isn’t 100%.

I think you are okay with that cpu. Why not just try it out and see how well you are doing. Original skyrim is very cpu intensive in cities where there are a lot of npcs, but since the game doesn’t support more than 4 cores you won’t get that much out of upgrading. GTX 1060 is a pretty good fit for that cpu as they don’t really bottleneck each other. If you are considering an upgrade it might be time to save up for a whole new system.

Weird mine have usually come right away. Don’t fret. Ralf is usually pretty fast with his support responses.

Doesn’t skyrim always have vsync on?

I’d recommend Oculus over Vive because of Oculus’ asynchronous spacewarp feature, which makes it possible to play games at 45 fps without getting motionsick. Right now Oculus seems to be the best buy bacuase it also has better controllers than Vive, but things are moving fast in the VR world and in a few months things might look different.

It’s is probably slower in almost any game with true geometric 3d. Vorpx requires even better specs since it isn’t optimized as well as native VR apps. But you could run in some of the simpler 3d modes and get better frame rates. And then there are old games like Portal, Mirror’s Edge or Half-Life 2, that may run well even on your system.

It’s not that. It doesn’t matter if I turn resolution or graphic options. The stutter comes after 5-15 min. Before that everything is smooth.

I have the same issues. Runs smooth as butter until I get the lag. It help to alt-tab, but will start again with a much shorter interval.
