RalfKeymasterNo, you can run games at any resolution you want with vorpX.
1440p will typically look quite good, but if performance allows for a game go as high as you can. For an optimal experience you can add resolutions to your PC that it does not support normally, check the ‘Custom Resolutions’ section in the vorpX help for a detailed step-by-step guide. This method works with basically any game.
For Resident Evil 7 specifically it’s even easier than that since the game has a render size multiplier in its options menu. Per default vorpX sets it to 1.3, but you can try someting higher unless that hurts performance too much. Can’t recall currently how the option is called, but should be easy enough to spot in the game’s video/graphics options.
BTW: high resolutions can be further enhanced by applying some mild sharpening in the vorpX menu.
RalfKeymasterNo problem. Copy/paste from the pinned FAQ post above:
I bought vorpX before but don’t have the web installer anymore.
Please request a new download link here.
RalfKeymasterIf there is no official profile for a game and you can’t find a user profile in the cloud either, you can always try to make your own. The basics are fairly easy. You just have to make a copy of another profile and apply the game’s .exe to your copy. Ideally the source profile should be based on the same graphics engine to macimize the chance that your user profile works as intended.
For additional information on the matter including more advanced user authoring options check the ‘User Profiles’ section in the help.

If you run a game with XP-compatibility, you have to run vorpX as admin. You can set an according option in the config app, ‘General’ page. XP-compatibility among other things means a game gets admin rights. vorpX (correctly) can’t hook games running with admin rights unless it also runs as admin.
RalfKeymasterThe game is not officially supported. If you want to create a user profile for it and are certain it’s an OpenGL program try to take some other OpenGL profile as a base for a new one (e.g. Quake 1-4, Amnesia, Jedi Knight II). Try more than one if the first one doesn’t do the trick right away. Be aware though that OpenGL G3D support in vorpX is limited to fairly old (fixed function) OpenGL versions.
A much better way to experience (a re-imagined) Half-Life 1 is Black Mesa: Source though, which you can purchase on Steam. Basically Half-Life with way better graphics. For the Steam version of Black Mesa: Source a fully featured DirectVR profile exists.
RalfKeymasterPlease don’t change any SteamVR settings while vorpX is attached to a game, especially not low-level settings like the headset refresh rate. Sounds pretty normal to me that that could cause problems. Also ideally please leave all SteamVR settings at their default values.
Problems with attaching to games typically are related to conflicts with other programs on your PC that also hook into games. Obvious candidates would be CPU/GPU utilities of any kind or some invasive AV programs, but there are also less obvious ones. Generally everything that can show an overlay over games for example. Since you are a 3D-Vision user, please also make sure that 3D-Vision is disabled.
You can find more detailed information regarding hooking issues including some other, less likely, potential reasons in the trouble shooting guide in the help (or here).
RalfKeymasterHow about reading replies instead of posting every 10secs? :) Again: ALT+F.
Also please consult the help, especially the basic guides I mentioned above. I’m sure they will answer a lot of questions you may have. If afterwards you still have questions left, I’m happy to help.
RalfKeymasterI can’t really help with OpenTrack, sorry. If you can’t make it work, please reset the profile to default in the config app.
Also please do yourself a favor and disable that FPS counter. vorpX has its own, you don’t need an external counter. All it can do is causing trouble. Same for any other GPU/CPU utility you may have running.
RalfKeymasterDid you read my reply above? Please do not use vorpX alongside any other programs that also hook into games. Doubly true for non-essential stuff like FPS counters or any other kind of GPU/CPU utilities that aren’t necessary for anything.
RalfKeymasterNever heard of that before. If that was a common problem, you can be sure to read more about it here. Please try a full factory reset or reinstall.
RalfKeymasterThe ‘Play Style’ setting is the very first setting in the vorpX ingame menu ([DEL] key).
The help that comes with vorpX is your friend again: the ‘Quickstart Guide’ covers the very basics, e.g. accessing the menu and stuff like that.
DEL does bring up the menu, if for whatever reason that does not work for you, you can change the hotkey in the config app.
BTW: It would be great if you stay away from these annoying and totally useless full quotes. Thanks.
RalfKeymasterDo yourself a favor and don’t use any programs alongside vorpX that also hook into games. If you need an FPS counter, press ALT+F, vorpX has one built in.
You can switch the ‘Play Style’ option to ‘FullVR’. Be aware though that FullVR requires a perfectly matching FOV to work right. Game and headset FOV have to the same in that case, otherwise the image will look zoomed in or warped. For about 150 games vorpX can do that automatically, for others you may have to do it yourself. Check the ‘Essential Hints Guide’ in the help for detailed information in that regard and the various methods to deal with that matter.
If you want to hop right into FullVR games without caring about stuff like that for now, check the ‘Good FullVR Games For Beginners’ list in the help, basically a selection of FullVR games where vorpX can handle FOV (and more) fully automated.
RalfKeymasterDon’t think about it. Not worth wasting a single second of your time. About as useful as thinking about lizard people ruling the world.
RalfKeymasterUnfortunately not, the original Mirror’s Edge used an entirely different 3D-engine. I think someone posted about Catlyst not too long ago though. Not 100% sure, but worth to check the cloud profiles in the config app for an user profile.
RalfKeymasterThe list isn’t always fully up-to-date. There is an official profile that has been added two versions ago: https://www.vorpx.com/vorpx-20-1-0-released/
OpenTrack is not required, like in all F1 games per default vorpX emulates a gamepad for looking around. If F1 2019 still supports TrackIR, you can use OpenTrack instead if you want.
Just to avoid any potential misunderstandings: please be aware that with G3D games performance will be similar to your monitor gaming 3d-driver + a headset streaming app.
