RalfKeymasterThis trick should not be necessary, at least it isn’t here, using the MS game pass version.
@ zig11727 : Could you please check how the .exe is called that vorpX is hooking into when you play the game. You can find the name of the hooked .exe in the vorpX logfile (C:\Users\[your user]\AppData\Local\Temp\vorpX.log).
Since the game uses different .exe names per store, the profile might not have the name for your version assigned yet.
RalfKeymasterNext update:
I was able to pinpoint what the Rockstar launcher doesn’t like while vorpX is running, so no beta testing needed for now. I’m not sure yet how to deal with the matter, but let you know as soon as I can figure something out.
RalfKeymasterShort update:
I had to pull the vorpX update again after having it up briefly earlier today. RDR2 works when it works, but I’m still having issues with the RockStar launcher here. It doesn’t crash anymore since today’s RDR2 update, but I still have to try several times until the game launches. While that happens with or without vorpX, it seems to be worse with vorpX running.
If you are interested in a little beta test regarding the matter, send me a mail to support |at| vorpx com with the subject ‘RDR2 beta’ or something similarly recognizable. Please only participate if you are willing to invest a few minutes for providing feedback regarding the launcher issue. Thanks!
RalfKeymasterThe profile defaults to immersive screen mode at this (very early) point. If you are OK with that, you can play the game from start to finish without tweaking anything except for setting the FOV as high as possible in the game options. I did two one hour sessions actually playing the game yesterday to stress test the new vorpX DX12 component under real world conditions and got sucked into the world pretty well.
RalfKeymasterDon’t despair, no need to! :) If nothing totally unforeseen comes up, this will only be a 24h delay. I’m just not willing to sacrifice the remaing two or so hours of my day to that crashing Rockstar launcher.
See ya tommorow!
RalfKeymasterNot so good news guys: while testing the final release build I encountered an issue with the Rockstar launcher exiting unxpectedly several times, which didn’t happen for me until a few hours ago. Seemingly randomly the game starts, and next time the launcher crashes while starting it.
These launcher crashes seem to be a relatively common issue and happen with or without vorpX, so they are almost certainly unrelated, but unfortunately they make testing the release build thoroughly quite difficult. So I decided to postpone the release until I can do my final tests in a proper way, it’s already evening over here. Better for everyone that way, just in case there is an issue that didn’t show in dev builds.
Hopefully Rockstar will get this sorted until tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
I’ll keep you posted.
RalfKeymasterSorry for letting you wait, guys. Just a little bit of final testing left now.
You’ll get the update as soon as humanly possible. Still on track for a relase today.
I should take good old Scotty’s advice into account more than I usually do. :)
RalfKeymasterI have yet to check a WMR headset, but no problem here on Index with the latest stable SteamVR version. DX9, DX11 and the upcoming DX12 support work like before the update.
Please make sure that you use the default SteamVR settings, just in case some edge case with unusual SteamVR settings doesn’t work like before the SteamVR update.
RalfKeymasterLooks good so far. Time for a little teaser, I guess. The new vorpX version that can handle the game will be out tomorrow.
For those who didn’t follow the discussion: the game runs exclusively on D3D12 and Vulkan, which vorpX both did not support until now. The vorpX update tomorrow will provide basic D3D12 support, currently limited to Z3D though. Given it’s an open world game with large scale outdoor scenery Z3D works fairly well in this case.

RalfKeymasterYour key has been sent a few minutes after you requested it.
I have resent it manually, just in case the mail did not go through.
Please also check your spam folder!
If the mail still does not reach you, please ideally provide an alternative e-mail address.
RalfKeymasterDISCLAIMER:
THE BELOW POST MAY OR MAY NOT COME TRUE. NOTHING IS FINISHED YET, SO ALL MAY FAIL AT ANY TIME. THIS IS NO PROMISE OF AN UPCOMING FEATURE, JUST A MESSAGE TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I’M WORKING ON IT:
That said:
If possible I will release a vorpX update with *alpha* DX12 support shortly. I’m almost there as far as Z3D goes, at least with some simple test apps. G3D however will take way more time, so don’t expect that anytime soon. Also nothing has been tested yet with actual real games, so as said above, do not consider any of this a promise at this point.
TLDR: DX12 Z3D *may* happen shortly, G3D definitely won’t for the time being.
RalfKeymasterTry to disable 3D temporarily, that will probably help. The default shorcut is ALT+X.
In FullVR and Immersive Screen Mode you can automate that whenever you switch to EdgePeek by setting the ‘EdgePeek 3D-Strength Multiplier’ to 0.0 (display page of the ingame menu). That is a good way to deal with all sorts of menu/cutscene related issues.
RalfKeymasterSounds like an issue with your AV software.
Please try to disable it for testing. If that helps, exclude the vorpX program folder from your AV scanner.
Please note that some more invasive AV programs can be hard to disable, making things even more difficult. If you use a third party AV program, consider switching to Windows Defender.
RalfKeymasterDid you check the pinned FAQ post above?
I bought vorpX before but don’t have the web installer anymore.
Please request a new download link here.
