RalfKeymasterMight be called ‘Oculus Rift’, sorry for the confusion.
The tray icon is in your taskbar left of the clock. If you can’t see it, Windows has hidden it. In that case click on the small up arrow close to the clock to show hidden tray icons. Looks similar to the desktop icon, just smaller.
RalfKeymasterPlease select “Oculus Rift CV1” as your headset type in the vorpX config app for Oculus.
You can pause vorpX by right clicking its tray icon your taskbar and selceting “Pause Watcher”. From the same menu you can exit vorpX.
If you haven’t done so already, it’s worth to check the “Quickstart Guide” in the help. It answers some basic questions you may have.
RalfKeymasterQuite likely BitDefender. One of those AV programs that are pretty hard to disable. You need at least to disable the so called “Advanced Threat Protection” in addition to the actual AV scanning module.
If you aren’t forced to use BitDefender, I would recommend to switch to Windows Defender instead. Comes free with Windows 10 and provides excellent protection without being as invasive as some other scanners. Windows Defender kicks in automatically when you uninstall your third party AV scanner on Windows 10.
RalfKeymasterMake sure to run the DirectVR memory scan after entering the game world (not in the menu). The scan can be started either with ALT+L or from the vorpX ingame menu. After a successful DirectVR scan vorpX manipulates the game’s camera directly instead of using mouse emulation.
Whenever a game supports DirectVR head tracking you see a notification about that in your headset when you start the game and also in the top left corner of the monitor mirror window.
RalfKeymasterI don’t think many game devs would be interested in that. Not so much for technical reasons, more because they would have to tell their users to buy another app for VR in their games. Not hard to imagine what kind of unpleasant reactions they would get for that.
RalfKeymasterShould be enough to select “Steam VR” as your headset type in the vorpX config app. If your setup works with other SteamVR apps, it should also work with vorpX in SteamVR mode normally.
I would highly suggest to only use ‘Immersive Screen Mode’ and ‘Cinema Mode’ play styles in vorpX, ‘Full VR’ does not work well with ALVR currently.
RalfKeymasterJust a heads-up that vorpX 19.1.0 is now oficially pushed back to January so noone has to hammer F5 over Christmas. ;)
Due to heavy changes in the DX11 pipeline this release requires a lot of testing unfortunately to make sure nothing is broken that worked before.
RalfKeymasterThe best way to draw attention to games that might fly under the radar is the stickied wishlist thread above. It’s monitored regularly and games mentioned there are at the very least checked whether they might be reasonably well suited for vorpX.
Dec 24, 2018 at 11:04am in reply to: difference between a native vr game and a vorpx g3d game #177964
RalfKeymasterThat particular case is rather unique. The game has an unused VR mode built in by the game devs, the mod simply unlocks it.
Ideally there is no visual difference, but that ideal case is not always possible, e.g. shadows are often more difficult for vorpX. With access to a game’s source code one can shift the actual “camera” for stereo 3D while vorpX works on the graphics API level (DirectX, OpenGL) after the game has done its rendering.
RalfKeymasterIf you think scale is off for your taste in any G3D game (shouldn’t be too much usually), you can adjust it within an extremely wide margin using the “3D-Strength/Scale” option. Everything from NPCs looking like dwarfs to giants is possible. The default 1.0 means usually realistic scale/3d or is at least very close to that. So change this option carefully.
Third person games like the Witcher 3 are better suited for immersive screen mode for gameplay reasons. If you prefer to play the Witcher 3 in full VR mode, you can do that any time, but it only really makes sense with a first person mod and ideally also an FOV mod. Both probably are available on nexusmods.com.
In cutscenes simply change to EdgePeek mode (middle mouse button or right gamepad thumbstick click). EdgePeek zooms the screen out temporarily and let’s you look around freely. Perfect for cutscenes and menus.
If you haven’t done so already, you should check the ‘Quickstart Guide’ and the ‘Essential Hints Guide’ in the help. Both contain more useful hints like the one above and help you get a grasp of how vorpX works.
The stickied ‘Good Full VR Games for Beginners‘ list above is a collection of games that I would consider well suited for new users who want to hop right into the action. It contains first person games that all are configured automatically by vorpX’s DirectVR feature(s).
RalfKeymasterIron sights can be addressed from within vorpX, you just have to enable expert settings in the config app. Once you did that you will see a new ‘Main Eye’ option in the vorpX menu. Simply choose the eye you would prefer in reality for aiming down the sights and you’re good.
This option will be easier to access in the next vorpX version.
RalfKeymasterTry to reset the profile to its default. You can do that in the config app (trouble shooting page). If afterwards your gamepad still does not work for you in Thief 2014, please use mouse and keyboard instead.
As said above I don’t recall to have encountered your issue when doing the profile but will try to replicate it after the holidays.
RalfKeymasterProvided it’s a general vorpX issue. I don’t recall to have encountered your gamepad issue when doing the game’s profile, but will check it.
RalfKeymasterCall of Duty Ghosts is currently Z3D only IIRC. Z3D usually doesn’t look as natural as “true” Geometry 3D. On the upside it’s a lot faster.
Don’t recall such an issue with the gamepad in Thief 2014, but will look into it after the holidays. For the time being please use mouse and keyboard if the gamepad doesn’t work for you.
RalfKeymaster@ KickB: Just checked two random savegames and waited til midnight. In both locations the night sky looked correct (checked with the Steam version).
If you want, you can send me a savegame to support |at| vorpx com for further investigation.
Apart from that it’s not entirely impossible that earlier DVD versions may use slightly different shaders, which would invalidate shader fixes like the night sky fix. If you use a non-Steam version currently, getting the Steam version might be worth a shot (currently $3.99 in the Steam sale).
