Just a little extra information, this annoying left/right text only appears when fully in game, not in any menus or even the map screen, only when properly in game.

I have tried using a different VR headset yet this problem persists, it’s like i have activated some sort of VR overlay or something, the word “Left” appears in the left eye in white text and the word “Right” appears in the right eye in white text, the two words are all meshed together when viewing with both eyes open as you would expect, i have no idea how to turn this bloody annoying thing off or how it even got turned on.

I removed all mods but still the problem remains and as i have tried multiple headsets that rules out them as a culprit which leaves me with the game or VorpX, as RDR2 isn’t a VR game i doubt it would be that causing this strange overlay thing to be showing in my headset, so does VorpX have such an overlay setting that i have accidentally turned on? if so how in the hell do i turn it off?

If it is not VorpX and if anyone knows what it is and how to turn it off would you kindly let me know so i can get rid of this annoying thing.

I’m having similar problems as Anatolij, “You can only play for about 15-20 minutes, after that the game starts to slow down a lot (FPS 2-5 frames)”.

I can play from 5-20 min then the game suddenly goes to about 1-5fps for a few seconds then crashes (if the mod is set to Oculus mode i get an error when it crashes saying to use SteamVR but using SteamVR mode i get the same fps drop after 5-20min then crash but without the VorpX error box telling me to change to SteamVR), before the fps drop & crash the game looks & performs great with VorpX (using Rift S playing on RX 6700 XT at a resolution of 2560 x 1600) i have completed the game before with VorpX using all the same settings so don’t know why it has started behaving like this.

I have deleted all mods that i had in case they were causing issues, uninstalled the game completely & re-installed, uninstalled the mod & re-installed (the latest version) nothing i have tried fixes it which is a shame because it was a great game to experience in VR but this problem makes it unplayable.

Thought i’d make a list as iv’e been trying out some more games with VorpX:

    1: Red Dead Redemption 2
    2: Cyberpunk 2077
    3: Prey (2017) & Mooncrash
4: Space Hulk Deathwing Enhanced Edition
    5: Shadow Warrior 2

Games that i have not played yet but i have tested them with VorpX & they work good once i set the game & VorpX settings to my liking so will probably be added to my list once i have played more:

    Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
    The Outer Worlds
    Resident Evil 7
    Chernobylite

Wanted to add this to the post above but can’t so i’ll put it here.

The head/camera twitchy-ness can get annoying so when it becomes too unbearable for me i just turn headtracking off and use the gamepad to look around instead, not ideal for VR as it’s obviously better looking around using your own head but is still a very cool game to play in VR even using the pad to look around.

Got the game looking and performing really good on my system (6700xt, Rift S)

Game resolution set to 2560 x 1440 and FOV set to 120.

    VorpX settings:

    Full VR
    Image zoom – 0.80
    Geometry
    3D strength – 1.0
    Main eye – Right
    Camera height modifier – 0.00
    3D fov enhancement – 0.60
    Head tracking sensitivity – 0.18
    Clarity – medium
    Sharpen amount – 2.00
    G3D shadow treatment – auto
    Override xbox gamepad – partial

Very cool looking in VR (can be a little twitchy when trying to hold head/camera perfectly still but it’s not too bad)

Cheers for this, just got it as it was on sale, changed some settings to get it how i like it, looks and plays really good, my settings below, i play using a Rift S and xbox controller, with a 6700xt.

Resolution set to 2560 x 1400 (for some strange reason i have to set my desktop display to 2560 x 1400 for the game to play in that resolution, without doing that the game only gives me a choice of 3 resolutions all of which look crap in the headset, never had to do that in any other game, weird)

    Image zoom – 0.78

Under the “more stereo 3d settings” i put “main eye” to Right and “3d fov enhancement” to 0.50

    Head tracking sensitivity to 0.55

    Clarity (fidelity fx) – Full
    Sharpen amount – 2.00
    Texture detail enhancement – 2.00
    G3D shadow treatment – Auto

Override xbox gamepad – Partial (have to use middle mouse button for edgepeek as clicking the right analogue stick does nothing, pad works for everything else)

    Really cool game in VR.

Bring up the VorpX menu using the delete key on keyboard or clicking L3 on a controller then find the option for head tracking and turn it off.

Trying out some of my older games with VorpX & decided to try this one, apart from shadows looking a bit weird occasionally i got it looking & working great on my set up (6700XT & Rift S) so just thought i’d post my game & VorpX settings:

Game resolution set to 2560 x 1440 & FOV slider set to 120..

VorpX setting (any settings not mentioned are left on default):

    3D strength – 1.00
    Head tracking – 1.50
    Main eye – Right

    Image settings

    Clarity – Medium
    Sharpen – 2.0
    Hud scale – 0.60
    Hud horizontal – 0.55
    Hud depth – 0.85
    Shadow treatment – Auto

    Direct VR settings

    FOV adjustment – 20.00

    Very cool experience in VR.

Pressing the left analogue stick (L3) on a controller brings up the VorpX menu when using it normally so i assume it is the same when using desktop mode.

You are very welcome my friend, hopefully it can help people get an even better experience with RDR2 in VR than it is already.

I posted a link to this mod in another topic but i’ll post it here too as it is pretty handy: Skip legal screen mod – https://www.nexusmods.com/reddeadredemption2/mods/28?tab=description skips the shotgun Rockstar screen & the two legal screens before the main menu, helpful for cutting down the time it takes to get into the game especially if like me the game usually crashes 2-3 times before working properly.

Edit: In the first post i mentioned two mods Bounties expansion & Bounty hunting expanded & enhanced, you only need the Bounty hunting expanded & enhanced mod as that is basically an improved version of the Bounties expansion mod, no need for both.

Yeah it always works eventually, usually after 2-3 tries so it’s not a big problem & with the legal screen skip mod it cuts down on the time it takes to get into the game, your work is very much appreciated Ralf, cheers.

After some more testing i am still getting crashes at the main menu so it does not fix the crashing issue but it does cut down on the time i had to wait sitting through the shotgun screen then the legal screens so still worth installing if you want to save some time if your game crashes multiple times before eventually working.

Never mind i figured out a way to get it working, if i start the game connected to the internet & then disconnect while on the main menu before loading into the game or changing the resolution scale it does not crash & i can play offline, it seems that the social club pop up notifications trigger a memory error if already in the game with the resolution scale adjusted.

Game still won’t let me start offline at all though no matter what i do, it always gives me the “Activation Required” nonsense, i have a strong dislike for game companies that force people to go online when there is no need for it, should only have to go online for online gaming.

One thing i noticed that’s a bit weird, in some scenes like when you meet Jackie outside your apartment building before you meet Dexter Deshawn it goes into edgepeek view when looking at Jackie but if you turn your head to the right it will stay in proper VR view, it does the same when you meet mama welles at the bar before Jackie’s funeral thing, when you sit at the table with her if you are looking at her it goes into edgepeek view but if you turn to the right so you can only see her out of the edge of your vision it stays in proper VR view, it’s not a major problem just a bit weird, be good if it could just stay in VR view without having to look away from the person you are talking to.

In some scenes it stays in edgepeek view no matter if you turn your head or not, such as the corpo start when you talk to Jenkins in his office, it goes into edgepeek view when you sit down and only goes into proper VR view when you stand up, another weird situation is when you talk to Evelyn at Lizzie’s bar it goes into edgepeek view when talking to her in the little room with the holographic stripper dancing and stays in that view until you get in the chair down in Judy’s room but if you save the game and load when you are leaving that room with the holographic stripper heading down to see Judy it gives the proper VR view.

As i said it’s nothing major just little things that are a bit weird.
