Hi I have tried all valve source games with latest release and not a single 1 works.
Portal, portal 2, halflife 2, black mesa, all refuse to work.

    Hi Ralf,

Thank you for getting back to me. Here is a more detailed outline of the issues I am having. I have limited the games I’m trying to Black Mesa, HL2 and BioShock Infinite. These games are older and I felt should play pretty well with my hardware.

    1. Whenever I call up the VorpX menu in game (pressing Del) the menu is rotated about 95 degrees on screen. Also, if I do Edge Peek the screen will also rotate about 95 degrees. This happens with all the games I’m trying.

If I turn off Edge Peek the game will return to normal but no matter what the VorpX in game menu is always rotated 95 degrees.

    2. So, with every game we are going to use VorpX on, should we strive for the following settings:

    -4:3
    -1280 x 960 or 1600 x 1200
    -FOV around 120

    3. At times it seems confusing because you have the games’ setting, then Steam VR will try to make changes and then VorpX on top of all of that.

    4. In HL2 I am never able to enable VR mode. Is this separate from VorpX and more an Oculus/Vive deal?

    Thanks,
    Mark

That’s not quite as important anymore for modern games as it used to be. Most games these days use low latency mouse input with almost as little latency as memory scanner head tracking. The memory scanner is still quite a bit better for other reasons, but the advantage isn’t as huge with most newer games.

Did anyone come up with a tweak for the crosshair being slightly off in games like Black Mesa? I’m assuming there’s a cheat code that might adjust it, but I haven’t found any in the various cheat code lists.

Please make sure to use the Black Mesa that can be purchased on Steam, not the older mod version. The issue that caused a crash with Vive has been resolved two or three vorpX versions ago.

BTW: No double (or triple in this case) posts regarding the same issue, one is enough. I have deleted the other ones.

Hi Ralph I was just trying to play the Black Mesa from Steam as you mentioned and VorpX just stays at “attaching to bms.exe”.
Of course I removed the d3d9.dll from there. The game works correctly, I will keep testing to see if there is a way to use it correctly but so far VorpX never attaches correctly.

For example: I use the standard profile for the game (black mesa) but I changed it for myself, how can I upload my profile online? The problem is that when I played enough and I want to choose a different profile for another game, then all settings for the black mesa are not saved. And the second sentence: could you indicate in the profile for the game which 3D method is used (Z-Buffer 3D or Geometry 3D). If only geometry is suitable for me and I want to download the game specifically for geometry, but I do not know which method the game supports, please indicate in the profile which 3d method is supported for the game

Hi Ralf, I have written earlier but no answer yet. Big thank you for this program.

All games work perfectly Witcher3, Mass Effect’s and other.

But I won’t play in HL2,ep1,ep2, black mesa source and I read on the forum what other people can play in it but not me. What is my problem?

Vorpx is injected and on the monitor display – I see logo Vorpx but in Oculus headset I see only logo HL2 and text “loading”. Cursor follow by my headset.

I use a cloud setting. Trying with steam VR and without – with steam and no steam – hl2 update, hl2 classic, ep1, ep2, black mesa – result only one – “loading” text and game logo in the white room in Oculus headset.

Windowed, fullscreen, 4:3, 16:9 and other resolution… no matter.

Windows 7 x64. Oculus Rift CV1. Last update for Oculus and Vorpx.

Please help me if you can, I’m waiting for your answer. Thank you, regards.

Ive been struggling with playing Black Mesa with vorpx due to how aggressive it experiences flickering.
Here is the world flickering that happens constantly (Headtracking disabled):

And here is what happens to the weapons when I play with headtracking:

These have added up to becoming an eye sore for me and was hoping if anyone knew a fix? Ive tried all the settings within Vorpx’s menus to no avail.
    Thanks

The first few minutes after the train ride in Black Mesa are a common test case here. Last time I checked it there were no frame drops, with a decent GPU you should have no problems normally. Might make sense to set the game’s graphics options to default and try with and without antialising.

Never tried Half-Life Source, a clear oversight. Probably not too hard to get it working with full DirectVR support. I’ll look into it.

BTW: Also check HL2 Episode 1. The first hour or so in the Combine fortress is a mix of action and puzzles so perfect for VR that I consider it one of the best VR experiences to have, with or without vorpX. Make sure to play it standing with Touch/Vive wands.

I just tried this and it works!! Thank you Ralf for this awesome software :)
I have not played half life 2 in over 10 years and with this mod, its a blast to be back :)

But I also tried (very shortly) Black mesa… Is it normal that you get frame drops in the beginng?? I think i get around 30 fps and its nearly not playable.

And does vorpx works with Half Life source??

If you are new to vorpX, you probably want to hop right into the action instead of learning how to configure vorpX. The list below contains first person games that work with litlle to no configuration in ‘Full VR’ due to vorpX’s DirectVR functionality, which can configure important things like field of view, head tracking or resolution automatically.

For third person games that are usually played best in immersive screen or cinema mode not much configuration is required in general, so this list focuses on first person ‘Full VR’ games that can be a little harder to configure without DirectVR.

If you are stuck, make sure to check the ‘Essential Hints Guide’ and the ‘Quick Reference’ in the help. They help you understand a few basic concepts.

For some reason, in every Source Engine game I’ve tried(Portal 2, Half-Life 2, Black Mesa) my weapons look huge. I tried adjusting the viewmodel FOV, but that doesn’t fix the problem.

I’ve tried looking for a solution in the forums, but for some reason I haven’t seen anyone else bring it up. People talk about how Source Engine games work perfectly but never mention this issue.

Is this a widespread thing? Or is it relatively rare? And does it have a fix?

Also, on an unrelated note, I saw that the latest update for VorpX added Direct VR support for F.E.A.R. 2. Would it be possible for you to add Direct VR support for the first F.E.A.R. game?

    Thank you for your patience.

I don’t really have any other suggestions for Gone Home than the ones I gave you twice already, sorry. If for some reason DirectVR auto settings don’t work for you for a game, you can always:

    1. Either disable auto resolution in the vorpX menu (DirectVR page) and use vorpX the old fashioned way by following the three steps from the ‘1-2-3 Game Setup Guide’ in the help, essentially using the ‘ImageZoom’ option to compensate for missing FOV.
    2. Or alternatively switch the ‘Play Style’ option to ‘Immersive Screen Mode’, which doesn’t require a specific FOV.

Regarding my assessment of dellrifter’s Black Mesa fix please see my reply directly above yours. Whether there can be a solution on vorpX’s end, I can’t tell yet. If a game loads SteamVR (OpenVR) by itself, it causes a conflict with vorpX which does the same when operating in SteamVR mode. If by any chance you happen to own both a Vive and a Rift, switching vorpX to Oculus mode would also help.
