In reply to: Crysis remastered Epic games ?
thomas3dParticipantCan I confirm … the original Crysis looks “fantastic” with VorpX with G3D !!
Just wonder how this Youtuber managed to get the new remaster version to work …

Hard to imagine we had vr in 2013.

DrRobotnikParticipantHi all,
I just bought VorpX and am super excited to use it with all my non-VR games.
I’ve tested it out on quite a few games in my library including Sekiro, Fallen Jedi, Monster Hunter World, New Vegas and Crysis.
I’ve noticed that in the 3rd person games there’s quite a lot of ghosting when moving the character around, especially around the body of the character.
I’ve tried turning off VSync, changing resolutions and disabling all of the post-processing effects i.e. motion blur etc. Has anyone experienced the same issue and found a way to eliminate it?
Many thanks in advance!

markus3776Participantafter waiting for about 8 minutes (Far Cry 3 logo on screen, Hook Helper apears and Í selected “do nothing”) the loading screen came up. When I selected Continue from the main menu, I ended up back in Steam Home. I can play Kingdome Come, Crysis 3, Arma 3 and various other games without any problems. So I can hardly imagine that my AV software is the reason. Nevertheless, I will try to disable the AV software.
Very sad because I played mainly Far Cry 3.
@Ralf: I will try the Far Cry 4 profile when I get a chance.Dec 20, 2020 at 9:20pm #198984Topic: independent gun/head movement in FPS
in forum Game Hints and Settings
bagaboooParticipantHello,
I seen some topics on my search in regards to independent movement of the head vs gun. Some was saying this can only be done in ARMA III. (topics from like 2019)
Is there a tutorial on how this can be done? I saw mentions of like track IR etc.
And what’s the latest on this? I initially tried to play Far Cry 5, which had both head and gun combined. (I though because of imported profile).
Then I tried Crysis 3, with same results.
Is there any workarounds, did anyone manage to get the head and gun move independently, or better even, bind the gun to the hand controllers (I`m using Reverb G2). I found a demo that came with the WMR app, I think it was Halo or something, that had the guns binded to the controller – that was very impressive.

sandspiegelParticipantI have played through Bioshock (the original) and Bioshock Infinite in VR and it was one of the best VR experiences I had. It’s actually up there with Half Life Alyx for me. Being inside these worlds was something really special and I actually enjoy that it’s a seated experience. I’m playing through the Bioshock Infinite DLCs right now and Rapture looks amazing with the newer Engine and in VR. I honestly don’t know why some people give VorpX a bad name since especially with direct vr it’s pretty easy to set up. I will probably buy the new Geforce 3080 just for VorpX since I really want to enjoy all of these great games with maximum visuals and great performance since VorpX really brings my 2070 Super to its knees on higher resolutions in games like Crysis.
Sep 6, 2020 at 9:12am #196836In reply to: going to upgrade from gtx 1080 to rtx 3080 !
sandspiegelParticipantI have the 2070 Super currently and for 2D it’s more than enough currently but VorpX really brings it down to its knees especially at higher resolutions, so I have really been thinking of selling it and getting the 3080 which looks like a really great GPU for VorpX. Playing Crysis in VorpX at high resolutions with a great framerate then just might be possible. I wonder what Ralf thinks about Nvidias latest cards and if they are worth it and what choice he would make if he wanted to buy one for VorpX?
Jul 24, 2020 at 1:39pm #196152In reply to: how to setting games in vorpx please help ?
RalfKeymasterYou shouldn’t really have to setup anything for Crysis 1 normally. Under normal circumstances vorpX adjusts the FOV automatically for this game. Maybe that failed for some reason with your setup.
If you haven’t done so already, first and foremost please check the ‘Essential Hints Guide’ in the vorpX help. Among other things it explains how to deal with FOV if vorpX can’t do it automatically. Generelly checking the help will save you a lot of trial and error.
BTW: if a game feels uncomfortable in FullVR mode, ‘Immersive Screen Mode’ is always worth a shot. Another option would be switching to Z3D mode, which is a lot faster and thus helps with discomfort due to a potentially low framerate.

onetooParticipantOne of my goto games is the original Crysis. 2 and 3 work well also, but I love traversing the jungle in the original and the vehicles work great too. Dead Island played good too. Right now I’m experimenting with Dying Light. Too bad nobody created an Alien Isolation type VR mod to enhance the experimental VR that’s already in the game.

vulcan78ParticipantListen, I tried to answer your question by providing you an example that makes it as easy as possible to understand what actually happens technically in a multithreaded game when you raise the load on the main thread. That apparently wasn’t what you wanted to hear, so I apologize for that.
People believe all sorts of imaginary crap, half the internet is full of it. If you want to believe in a ‘3 core bug’ in nVidia’s 3D-Vision driver, I have zero problem with that. I mean why trust a reasonable explanation when you can also believe in some conspiracy theory that involves nVidia willingly hampering 3D-Vision performance by not fixing some odd ‘3 core bug’ for several years.
I had a gut feeling that it might be better to just ignore your post right away, should better have listened to it.
No, you did not listen and are still not listening, 3D VISION DOES NOT SATURATE A THREAD NEEDING TO OFFLOAD WORKLOAD ONTO ANOTHER THREAD, 3D VISION LIMITS THE NUMBER OF PHYSICAL CORES AVAILABLE TO THREE, HENCE THE NAME OF THE PROBLEM “3 CORE BUG”.
If it were simply a case of saturating a thread / core then the problem would be resolved by using a CPU of greater core count, i.e. 8700k, 9900k. There are many DX11 titles that have decent multi-threaded support, i.e. Watch Dogs 2, i.e. Crysis 2/3 just to name a few. If you try to play THOSE titles in 3D Vision THERE ARE ONLY THREE CORES IN USE.
Jun 7, 2020 at 2:40am #195134
vulcan78ParticipantThat explains a lot. Guess I don’t have to wonder anymore how that myth arised. Considering the author of that post all I’ll say is that half-baked superficial knowledge combined with strong opinions and the drive to share one’s ‘wisdom’ with the world is probably the most dangerous thing developed by mankind besides maybe the hydrogen bomb. Luckily in this case the only harm done was causing confusion among a stereo 3D community. ;)
I have no reason to defend nVidia, but imagine the following simplified scenario: a CPU with two cores and a game using two threads, one for rendering, one for physics. In mono both threads each fully utilize ‘their’ core, overall CPU usage 100%. Now, again for the sake of simplicity, let’s say stereo rendering doubles the CPU workload of the render thread, causing the framerate to drop to half purely due to the higher CPU workload. The first thread (rendering) would still fully utilize its core, but the second thread (physics) now would only have to utilize 50% of its core since only half the frames need physics calculated compared to before. Result: instead of 100% CPU usage mono you get 75% CPU usage with stereo.
No mysterious ‘3 core bug’ anywhere, everything working as expected. The ‘culprit’ is the added stereo workload on the render thread, as simple as that. The numbers will differ in a real world example and vary from game to game, but I hope you get the idea.
If this were the case of a thread responsible for rendering frames being saturated and needing to offload some of it’s workload onto another thread then we would see this problem running the game in 2D at 120 FPS but this isn’t the case with 3D Vision. Example, say I run GTA 5, Prey or Rise of the Tomb Raider in a CPU intensive area (DX11) @ 120 FPS in 2D, everything maxed, at 2560×1440 with 2080 Ti and 8700k @ 5.1 GHz no problem, but 3D performance is, it’s like 1/3rd, an abysmal 40 FPS, or 80 FPS 2D. Even DX11 has the ability to use more than 4 cores / 8 threads for rendering, i.e. Crysis 2 / 3 or Watchdogs 2 for example, which sees even distribution of workload across CPU’s of greater core count. 3D Vision actually limits the game to only being able to run on 3 physical cores for some odd reason, so an 8700k would yield 0% performance advantage over 7700k and even 7700k would be down a core trying to process any game. I get and appreciate your logic that rendering would actually decrease the CPU load (because physics being done on a single thread would have reduced workload) but that’s not what I’m describing, 3D Vision limits the number of available physical cores to 3 cores for some odd reason, the technical nature of which escapes me right now. There is around a 50% drop in performance due to 3 core bug. For example, I can run a game @ 120 FPS with full load on the GPU in 2D but because 3 core bug limits the number of physical cores available to 3 in 3D those 3 cores may be incapable of rendering the game at 120 FPS (even the the effect renders @ 60 FPS there are still 120 frames being created simultaneously, one for each eye). Usually a CPU demanding title that I can run at 120 FPS avg with full / near full usage on the GPU will only run at 40 FPS, a performance drop of 40 FPS 2D.

May 9, 2020 at 7:03am #194525Topic: «MechWarrior Online» native support
in forum Game Hints and Settings
JohnParticipantThe game «MechWarrior Online» has support for the TrackIR Protocol, which allows us to turn head in the cockpit. However, to transmit data about turns and movement of the VR-headset, we must use additional software, such as «OpenTrack», where the data source is specified as «Oculus Rift runtime» or «Valve SteamVR». Are there plans to add support for the TrackIR Protocol to «vorpX» so that there is no need to use additional software?
I would like also to see a native profile created in «vorpX» for «MechWarrior Online». Now, the profile for this game has to be created on the basis of «Crysis 2» or «Crysis 3», but they are not optimal for «MechWarrior Online». Don’t forget «MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries».
May 2, 2020 at 12:00pm #194312In reply to: vorpX 20.2.0 Available Now
RalfKeymasterThe only two DX10 games I can think of being still relevant enough to warrent that effort are Bioshock (already works great in DX9 mode, the DX11 remaster has G3D too) and Crysis (also DX9 G3D). So no, probably DX10 G3D won’t happen.

Hi all,
I just bought VorpX and am super excited to use it with all my non-VR games.
Hello,
I seen some topics on my search in regards to independent movement of the head vs gun.
Topic: z-normal or g3d?
is it my impression, or really in some games, like crysis 1, is better z-normal than 3d geometry ?
The game «MechWarrior Online» has support for the TrackIR Protocol, which allows us to turn head in the cockpit.
