You can switch Virtual Cinema Mode off for any game if you wish, but third person games like Dark Souls make a lot more sense this way.

You can move the virtual screen so close to you that you do not see anything else. This gives you full game immersion while maintaining the ability to look around freely.

Playing third person games in Full VR on the other hand let’s you rotate around the game avatar when you look around (just like the camera does normally in third person games), which not everybody is comfortable with.

Third person games in Virtual Cinema Mode with the screen moved closer are a experience *vaguely* comparable to dedicated VR third person games like Lucky’s Tale.

The only VorpX video of Dark Souls I´ve seen is with Cinema Mode, which i´m not interested in. In the list it´s marked as optimized for Virtual Cinema Mode. Does that mean it´s not playable in full immersion mode?
Are there games that are only playable in Virtual Cinema Mode? How many of the supported games?
I´m currently deciding if i should buy vorpx or give vireio another try.
    Please Help.

Hello, I haven’t purchased this program yet but I probably will in the near future when my CV1 arrives in a few weeks.

I signed up for this specifically because VorpX appear to be a must purchase with the Oculus Rift. I am planning to buy the CV1 but won’t have a delivery until July or perhaps by end of summer 2016. Can we assume that Vorpx will evolve and support the consumer version of the Oculus Rift? The Rift + VorpX looks like the deciding factor for me in terms of which way to go as far as experimenting with VR technology.

I am an avid Nvidia 3D Vision user using a 120 Inch projector setup for some real immersive gaming experiences. I have been active in the Nvidia 3D Vision forums and the work that the community has done on game fixes and tweaks for 3D Stereoscopic is mind blowing. Dead Space series in 3D Vision on a 120 Inch screen is just amazing and has to be experienced to appreciate. I’ve seen a user inject the 3D Vision fix with Far Cry Primal along with VorpX to obtain good results.

Far Cry Primal + VorpX + 3D Vision Fix

Question for anyone here, can these fixes be useful with VorpX? The 3D Vision fixes has ini files that can be set to inject or chain DLL’s. You have to visit the two links that I included in the body of this post. The scope of all that has been done in the last several years is a must look for those that are interested in real immersive gaming for the PC.

VR appears to be steps forward in immersive gaming and based on some Youtube videos of users using VorpX with the Rift, this seems like the right fit for me. Room scaling for the Vive seems half baked to me and while it has glowing reviews, I cannot justify the extra cost for this especially for the first time I am spending any money on VR technology. I suspect I should get several hours of enjoyment with VorpX and the Rift even though it’s not fully refined. Anyone who has this kind of setup, please give me your thoughts and comments for the amount of enjoyment, if any that you’ve had. I realize this cost will be more experimental into VR gaming until the industry matures.

    Cheers all!

Hello! Oculus shipping is around the corner and i think i can finally fulfill my long dream about experiencing Dark Messiah of Might and Magic in VR. I have waited this since 2008. I ordered the freaking Trimersion back in days because i didn’t know any better back then.

So anybody knows how well this game is working with VorpX? Anybody have the game and can test it with VorpX 0.9? That game is just freaking amazing and it goes to “you need to play it” -category.

This game works great in geometry 3D. My settings:
    Steam Start Options: -console
    and paste in console:
    bind “w” “+forward;sv_cheats 1;fov 120;viewmodel_fov 120”

    because bow zoom resets fov

    Pixel Ratio 1:1 in VorpX

You can’t see the HUD, but its playable.

Funny thing, I just noticed this exact behavior with Thief Gold & Thief 2 last night. All 3 games use the Dark Engine, right? Just tried SS2 and yep, I have the same exact problem, so there’s definitely an issue. I want to say they were all working for me quite recently, but I can’t remember when I last booted them up. Could have been prior to the latest vorpx release, but I really don’t think so. What could have changed? I can’t imagine any of these games were updated. Has SS2 worked for you since the latest vorpx update? Only thing I can think of is gfx drivers. On Nvidia by any chance?

    Weird stuff.

I bought VorpX today just to enable VR support on my DK2 with the Talos Principle, which I also bought today.

I have installed the newest Oculus 0.8 runtime, the newest nVidia driver, and (I presume) the newest VorpX (since it just downloaded today and I have read on this site that the downloader always installs the latest version).

The DK2 works just fine for games and demos that I have used previously; all of them have native VR support.

However, when I run the VorpX program (with the corresponding yellow V in the windows tray), and then run the Talos Principle, I get the standard DK2 disclaimer screen in the DK2 but then only a black screen. I also get nothing but a dark grey screen on my monitor with a mouse cursor in the middle. I can move the mouse cursor but can’t do anything else. I have to ctrl-alt-delete, then show my desktop, to find the task manager showing that The Talos Principle is “not responding”.

I bought VorpX today specifically because The Talos Principle is reported as a supported game. So how can I get this game to work with VorpX?

For what it’s worth, I’m not running any anti virus software, any special 3d drivers or applications or really much of anything at all. I keep this PC free of almost everything, I just use it to run DK2 demos mostly and have very little installed.

    Thank you!

I try to play in Amnesia A Machine for Pigs using game settings optimiser, but it didn’t use all my field of view — I have big dark lines over and under the screen.
I’ve checked different resolutions — 1900×1080, 1900×1200 and even 1280×1440. With the last choice I have also lines on the left and right with small screen at the center.
How to maximize image size to play in DK2?

Thanks grumdark for the suggestion on MSAA however it still wont kick in to stereo 3d. I am not sure the 3d-z is working in other games either for me. Is farCry 4 a zbuffer game? If it is I also get no 3d. Also no luck with Metro 2033 redux. Geometry works fine where that is applicable. As you can see, I bought a lot of games on Steam’s summer sale to try with Vorpx :). So far Mirrors edge works well in geometry as well as Borderlands. I guess I could switch those to z-3d and see what happens. ill report back once I try them.

Well, I took my chances and bought Metro LL Redux on Steam Summer Sale and it paid off cause vorpX hooks up just fine in DX11 mode ;) So for anyone who can’t play Metro LL original in DX11…Metro LL Redux is the solution.

And it looks surprisingly good for Z-buffer, the image quality is much better than Metro 2033, even if it lacks the immersion and depth of DX9’s Geometry 3D.

Thank you for your input grumdark, you pushed me in the right way suggesting Redux version ;)

Exactly, grumdark, I remembered that I initially applied Battlefield 4 settings in vorpX’s Games Settings Optimizer after I started playing again but unfortunately I didn’t see any edit option to modify my post, thank you for pointing that out, it’s very useful in order to have visible HUD in VR.

Also, you are right about the MSAA filter, I had it disabled from the start so I didn’t know that. As for black smear I didn’t see any difference whether it was on or off, it may be useful for some.

Oh well, thank you grumdark for taking your time and writing down this little guide for me. I will try it out later.
Again, thank you very much mate :)

Updated today and tried to check out cinema mode, but every title I launch, the Rift display goes dark momentarily, as if the game is loading, then I get dumped to the desktop with a message box that says something like “Rift init failed. VorpX will not work correctly. Check your HDMO and USB cables.” If I confirm the message, and ALT+TAB back to the game, it displays on the Rift, but the image is warped like I’m using an insane IPD setting. The VorpX menu will pop up, but is unreadable.

I’ve verified that everything is connected properly and that the Rift works with other applications. Any insight is appreciated. System details are below.

    CPU: Intel 3770K
    Video: nVidia GeForce 780Ti
    RAM: 16GB
    OS: Windows 8.1 64bit
Have attempted launching in both Direct and Extended modes.

The game wishlist thread is looked at regularly. A way to make profiles is something that will be looked into at a later point in time, there isn’t any schedule for that currently though.

Evolve (Z-Buffer only for now) and Dark Souls I+II will be in the next vorpX version (due shortly). GTA V will be looked into as the no. 1 top priority as soon as it is out. No promises though.

First off, I just want to say that you’ve made a great piece of software in vorpX. It plays all of my DX11 games and streams in OBS with an undistorted image, which is a huge thing for me as I’ve been Twitch streaming VR for a while now.

I was wondering if there is any way for users to contribute in making VR profiles for games, or maybe a guide on doing it yourself. I understand every game operates a little differently, but maybe a starter guide could get things rolling for a community hub with more widespread game support.

I was also looking around for a solid place to put game requests. Maybe a poll system would help prioritize which games are worked on sooner?

Anyway, sorry if it seems like I’m stepping on toes here. I actually would like to request support for Evolve, Dark Souls 2 (or Scholar of the First Sin), and GTA 5 when it comes out. Game support really seems to be pretty up-to-date, but I didn’t think there was any harm in asking.

Again, thanks for making such a great product and advancing VR!
