    Hey all, wondering something:

I’m trying to play Portal 2. It’s apparently good out-of-the-box. I have a Valve Index and I’ve picked that headset as the default, so vorpX knows that’s what I’m using – but the FOV seems wildly off, and it just doesn’t look good at all. I’m wondering if I need to set the custom resolution.

Here’s my question, since I’m setting it globally (apparently), should it be set to my MONITOR’S resolution and refresh rate which is 1080p at 60hz (tv), or the HELMET’S resolution at 1440×1600, and 144hz refresh? Maybe doing this will make it look better, this is the first time I’ve tried the driver to get a non-native VR game to work.

but have you tried it with valve index?
and how do I prevent the game from going to third person?

VorpX handles the FOV perfectly for this one in full VR. You might want to prevent the game going to third person mode (when feeding etc) to keep things consistent. Unless there’s some mysterious reason why Index would have problems on VorpX then you should be good to go.

Purchased VorpX today, no results achieved so far. Configured the Software as explained, used the HelpIndex after running into Problems. Tried the offered solutions, still no results.
Starting a game leads to booting of WinMR, then SteamVR where the desired game is shown as “next”. A few moments later the loadingprocess aborts without any further notice.
Im not a “techtalker” so i created a VorpX_troubleshoot-file, which i would like to send to the support-contact, shown on the website.
But can’t send that message, because of “One or more fields have an error. Please check and try again”
Software’s not running, support cannot be reached! Very disappointing.
    Any clues?

    regards
    Stephan

    Hello guys!
I’m new here and debating with myself whether to buy vorpx!
How well will vampire the masquerade bloodlines work on valve index?
How hard will it be to make it work well?
I’m very noobish in everything related to vorpx

I can’t really give you any other answer than the one above: Origin games work with any headset that vorpX works with. It does not matter whether you use a Rift, Vive, Index, Pimax or whatever other headset vorpX supports.

If you haven’t done so already, please thoroughly check the trouble shooting guide I linked above, especially in regard to programs on your PC that may create a conflict by also hooking into games.

    Hey Ralf,

Just wanted to know if there’s any way to get the index controllers to be used as a mouse?

    Thanks

We have a profile for Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing transfomed in the cloud that may work with your game. http://rjkole.com/gamestuff/engines/index.php?selgame=Sonic%20&%20All-Stars%20Racing%20Transformed

Thank you for your replies – directVR scan (with Alt-L) does pretty much fix the issue of turning my head. It is still not perfect, but much better.

As for the zoomed in effect, I’ve lowered the Vorpx zoom to 80, and also discovered that there is a FOV setting in the Blair Witch Game Play menu. Setting that to max also helps. After both of those the FOV is ok, but I’d still like to see a little more.

I’ve been running ok on Geometric mode, although the resolution is 1080p and to be honest not great looking (I have a 1080TI with i5 6800, running on Index). Does anyone raise the resolution? I’ve not tried because have not set up the custom resolutions.

If it only happens when using vorpx, go to the vorpx controller page and try different settings. May be this will help.

I just want to make sure that you aren’t caught by surprise one day, hence I’d like to let you know the current state of affairs every now and then: Microsoft ends official support next January, Oculus officially requires Windows 10 now (7 still works, but they don‘t actually care anymore), and Valve‘s current official stance you get in support replies regarding Index is that they don‘t actively prevent Windows 7 from working, but anyone using it shouldn‘t be surprised about ‚unexpected behavior‘. In other words, they don‘t really care anymore either.

I know you have valid reasons for disliking Windows 10, but using cutting edge tech like VR with an outdated OS will obviously not work forever.

Please check with the latest version and ideally not with Windows 7 (although it should still work). As mentioned above the game has been tested with 19.2.4. Quite rigorously actually since 19.2.4 contains a performance related change for Half-Life 2.

BTW: Neither Oculus supports Windows 7 officially anymore nor does Valve for the Index headset. Anyone still on Windows 7 should slowly start to consider the possibility of both runtime vendors finally phasing out Windows 7 support completely. The only remaining question in this regard is when it will happen. My guess would be sometime next year after the official Windows 7 end of life.

Unfortunatley some games are only partly 3D just like the so called 2,5D Adventures where 3D chars move on front of a 3D background. If thats the case for your game i guess there is nothing you can do. But before you give up, i would advise you to try a few other profiles here or here
