Just a heads-up that the feature has to be enabled on a game-to-game basis since it rquires some game specific settings. It doesn’t work automagically. Currently it’s enabled for the following games: Half-Life 2 (+episodes), Portal 2, Black Mesa Source, Titanfall 2, Fallout 4, Crysis, Skyrim Special Edition, Aliens: Colonial Marines.
I’m also having trouble with Fallout 76 on my new computer. I have an HP Reverb G2 headset, so I set vorpX to WMR then launch FO76 from Steam. One of two things happens: either the “Play” button switches to “Running…” for about 2 seconds then it stops and switches back to “Play”, or I can get it running with SteamVR but then I’m not benefitting from OpenVR in vorpX (and vorpX notices and gives a tip saying I should switch). Close vorpX and FO76 runs fine (but pancake, eww!). I have nothing else running at all; I’ve only had this computer for 2 days and this is just about all I have installed so far.
I was running FO76 successfully with OpenVR on my old laptop for a few days after the new vorpX version released, and I really noticed and appreciated the improved performance! I bumped up a few display settings and still got a better frame rate, it was great. I don’t know what’s different on my new computer — well okay, everything’s different, but something is preventing FO76 from launching with vorpX’s OpenVR.
Does anyone have ideas of what to try or how to diagnose the problem?
I noticed at one point during my fiddling around that even with vorpX set to WMR headset, launching FO76 would cause SteamVR to start up? Why would SteamVR start when launching a non-VR game? And within the SteamVR overlay I could “quit vorpX” (instead of “quit Fallout 76”). It seems like SteamVR was launching because it detected that vorpX required it?
I play the Trilogy for the first time, and after 11 hours i have to say it is a fantastic experience to play it in G3D with “living” NPC’s. Forget Skyrim VR or Fallout 4 VR, the NPCs are technical outdated in that games and are not impressive enough to believe that they are “living”. But the Mass Effect Legendary Edition blows me away !!!
Next week will Days Gone be released with also Unreal Engine DX11 support, and we will get a second Blockbuster in G3D with “living” NPCs. It’s a pity, that we can’t play every game in G3D. I would buy a second expansive graphic card, if it would be of any use.
I am also having this issue since the Windows 10 update. Basically, if I run the Bethesda Launcher and launch Fallout 76, it will launch if VorpX is off. However once I turn VorpX on, it just cycles through. I hit “Play” in the launcher, it goes “Checking for Update,” then “You’re Up to Date”. The Play button turns to “Running” and then it just stops and goes back to Play. It simply won’t launch the game. Any suggestions?
Hey Ralf,
I am sorry to say but this is a fresh install (no mods, no enb etc. whatsoever) and it only happens in Fallout 4 (all of my other games run very well). I have not touched modding in this game and on this rig anyway. And it happens on a new save as well. Well, I created a short video so you can see for yourself what I mean (since it’s the same within the headset) –> https://youtu.be/llzv9scEicw
Thanks for the hint with the preset, though. I didn’t even know something like this existed. But at this point F4 is unfortunately unplayable for me. Hm.
Edit: I noticed something: If I play in first person then this happens significantly less. So vorpx (or the game?) reacts to “mousemovement” + 3rd person with “flashes”. Without vorpx there is no problem at all.
First I am very impressed by the performance. Resoloution is rather low (800×600) but the game still LOOKS GREAT and performs very smoothly in G3D. I couldn’t believe my eyes since many games seem to scale very poorly with (my) hardware in vorpx. Unfortunately it’s unplayable due to the fact that textures (?) cause flashy glitches which take away most of your field of vision. If I start the game without vorpx everything works just fine so it’s caused by vorpx.
If there is a way to fix this it would be very appreciated. I love to play all bethesda games in 3rd Person view hence the VR adaption is a big no-go for me.
Hello, so I’ve been experiencing a very frustrating problem. When I start fallout new vegas with the original .exe then my controls work fine, means: I can use my mouse and keyboard or my controller –> which emulates a mouse/keyboard combination, I think. However, if I mod the game then I need to start it via “nvse_loader.exe”. Strangely enough vorpx hooks without a problem and everything but the controls seem to work. The game loads into the menu and the only buttons which are responding are “Del” (opens vorpx menu), “Enter” and the arrow keys (which I use to navigate through the menu). That’s it. IF I load into the game I can’t do anything: Mouse is not responding, keyboard is not responding, nothing. It’s uplayable. Why is that?
What I’ve tried to fix it:
1) Created a new profile (from the original FNV profile) and attached the “nsve loader.exe” to vorpx.
2) When the game is loaded I tried to change the controller-settings within the vorpx menu (overwrite: fully, partially etc.) since then (when the vorpx menu opens) the mouse works but as soon as I close the menu the mouse arrow dissapears and nothing happens anymore.
Without any luck, vorpx won’t let me use my other buttons nor the controller.
Is there any way to fix this?
Below is the list list of games that this feature will be enabled for in vorpX 21.2.0 (release tomorrow).
Tweakable options include the feature mode (off/auto hide/size and position only/always hidden), the auto hide timeout, the position of the weapon in 3d space, and weapon FOV and 3D-Strength for tweaking its size. Shouldn’t really be necessary to tweak anything though. Each profile has carefully chosen individual defaults that work just fine.
Games for the first release:
– Half-Life 2 (+episodes)
– Portal 2
– Black Mesa Source
– Titanfall 2
– Fallout 4
– Crysis
– Skyrim Special Edition
– Aliens: Colonial Marines
More games will follow shortly, I’m fairly confident that adding the feature will be possible for about 4 out of 5 potential candidates, i.e. first person G3D games.
Note that in this first release there is no UI for changing gamepad/key assignments, will also follow shortly. For the time being make sure to use a game’s default bindings, otherwise vorpX might not be able to reliably detect when the weapon is supposed to be shown/hidden under all circumstances.
Hi. I am completely new to VorpX. I am using Rift S with my Lenovo Legion Y540 laptop. It has I7 9th gen, RTX 2060 and 32 GB RAM onboard. Display is 1920×1080 px.
I think I tried everything and can’t launch VorpX with most of my games. Only very few of them work with no issues (like Metro 2033 or Fallout New Vegas).
Tried to hook it up with Witcher 3, CP2077, Subnautica Below Zero, 7 days to die, BeamNG Drive, Satisfactory, Space Engineers and many more. I added custom resolutions in NVidia CP, tried to change in-game setting and still nothing :(
Help me please! I don’t know what to do.
Desktop Viewer works perfectly fine.
Heavily invasive anticheat software like BattleEye etc. usually prevents vorpX from hooking at all. Games with more lightweight approaches may technically work, but whether or not that potentially violates a game’s license agreement, only the game dev can tell you.
That said, e.g. various Battlefield games, Elder Scrolls Online, Fallout 76, World of Warcraft and other games have been played by users for years. I can’t guarantee anything though.
This is not VorpX related, but i think Ralf wouldnt mind me posting this here.
I have just released 1.0 of my german speechmod for Fallout 4. More the 2500 text lines have been recorded in order to replace several unsuitable NPC voices.
I can generally get better visuals with games using VorpX, as I play a lot in Cinema/Immersive modes and I don’t need 80-90fps, I can get away with 30-40 and crank up the visuals if thats what I’m after.
Eg. I’d rather play skyrim/fallout4 in VorpX as I can do this with all the mods, etc.
But subnautica I’d rather just use VR.
Can’t really say much to the Witcher 3 issue. Probably more of an Oculus issue than anything else, but if you want, create a trouble shoot data archive in the config app when that happens next time and send it to support at vorpx com. I’d like to check whether the vorpX logfile shows anything unusual.
Stick to first person in Fallout 4. If you want to play Fallout 4 in third person view, you have to disable DirectVR. The third person camara apparently dislikes the memory scanner FOV override.
Last night i decided to try a new game: Fallout 4 with VorpX.
Played almost one hour but there is another issue with this game that makes it tough to continue:
In dialogues or 3rd person view some textures blink (appear/disappear) or the image from another angle flashes at random intervals. Even in the mirror scene when you choose the character appearance. I restarted the game twice and even got some horizontal black bars flashing.
@ xilc: With the Link cable there is no need for using SteamVR with a Quest usually except for some DX12 games. Try to run vorpX in native Oculus mode by selecting Oculus as your headset type in the vorpX config app.
SteamVR is only needed for Virtual Desktop. In that case you have to select SteamVR as headset type in the vorpX config app AND enable SteamVR capturing in Virtual Desktop.
@ Ralf
Hi — I tried this, and it works for Left 4 Dead 2, Fallout 4… Just not World of Warcraft. Is this game no longer supported?
