The best way to launch games is launching them directly from your desktop, through Steam/Uplay/Origin etc., not through any app launcher that runs on the headset.

If everything looks “ultra close”, you did not change the field of view (FOV). How that can be done varies from to game. You find a list of options in this regard in the Essential Hints Guide in the vorpX help, which I would strongly suggest to read. This guide explains three very important things that you need to do for each game once.

For Skyrim SE enhancing the FOV is done by typing “fov 120 20” into the game’s console. Check the !Usage.txt inside the ZIP file with the profile for full instructions and make sure to follow them completely, otherwise the profile will not work as intended.

On a sidenote: The original Skyrim in most cases works better with vorpX, so it probably makes sense to use that instead of the Special Edition.

    TL:DR:
Still not working, too much of a headache, don’t have time for all this – how do I get my refund? Thank you.

    FULL POST:

If needed: My Specs (MSI laptop):
    MSI GT80S 6QF
    Intel Core i7-6920HQ
GTX 980 Desktop Class (Dual SLI) 8GB DDR5 (each)
    1TB 7200RPM + 512G SSD (Super Raid)
    32G Ram DDR4

    Still not working.

    ISSUE: (Wash, Rinse, Repeat)
    1) Launched game via steam client
    2) It comes up in my Vive headset,
    3) I then tinker with delete options to fix the extreme closeness
4)While in main screen, console command ~ and type in “FOV 120 120″ can’t read words that appeared after I hit enter, unlegible – so I ignore it
    5) I start up the game – it crashes.

Prior to buying this software, I checked around first (I’m new to VR and PC gaming as of September 2016) I watched some youtube videos and forums. I honestly did not have any expectations, I knew this is a small indie dev. Enough respect there. However, I then researched some more in reddit and found this guy saying:

Sky Remasttered will work on VorpX. Ralf (VorpX creator) mentioned it a while back. It might be a short time for the official support till he gets it sorted but IIRC he said the F4 setting will probably cover it till then
Avyually using it is fairly straight forward. You launch Steam/Steam VR, Launch VorpX, Launch VorpX config, Select Skyrim Preset, save, then launch Skyrim.
The standardpreset will get you there and then it’s all tweaking to prefrence. Once you het a handle on how it all works out of the box…Use as much supersampling inside VorpX as your computer can handle and in skyrim’s ini file, set the highest resolution your computer/vive can handle.
You will QUICKLY find that you don’t have as much power as you wish you had. I have a Titan XP and a clocked 4790K and I am saving for Titan #2 because of it.
You will not regret the effort, or the money you throw at this.

    and he also said:

    Open VorpX
    Select the Skyrim ‘preset’
    Launch SteamVR
    Launch VorpX
    Launch Skyrim
    Open VorpX menu
    Change Mouse accel to off
Set 3d sliders (both) to 30
    Set zoom to 68-71
    Learn to use ‘Edge Peek”
    Play Skyrim.
Thats how hard VorpX is to make work great with Skyrim.

    All in this thread:

Is anyone working on a Skyrim for Vive mod?
    byu/TheYang inVive

Thus, my intentions were pure “hey let me support this indie dev and buy the software if it’s really that easy or some “minor” tinkering. (No one really explains how frustrating or headache inducing this can be) I am not a deep techie, surface techie only.

Now that I have VorpX, I must honestly say, this is horrible – for me. Two days now and not working (I bought it just for Skyrim SE) I don’t own OG Skyrim and don’t intend on purchasing it.

I really don’t have time to sit here and go through the hurdles this thing is throwing at me. My time is limited as is to put that much effort into this. I’ll just wait for Fallout 4 VR next year, even if it turns out to be horrible.

I say all that to say this, I appreciate what this software can do for those that have the time to sit there all day and tinker. Kudos. For those like me, time is precious so off time we use it to enjoy, Stay Away. Respectfully, how do I go about getting a refund for this?

Hi, don’t know if it’s the right thread, but been wondering is there any fix for Fallout 4 or Skyrim big hands, big weapons issue? Apart from that everything is working great but I cant play with geometry 3d while everything looks very good but my weapon looks like a huge cannon and my arms are also huge. I setup the FOV 110 110 but it doesnt help guns and hands being big huge. The world FOV 110 is working good but honestly the gun looks like its touching the end of the room while I am standing at the beginning of the room.I know its not Vorpx issue but bethesda problem, anyway wondering if anyone found the solution…Thanks

    Fallout 4 is working with
    htcvive 1280 x 720 with 20 FPS (geometric 3D)

    Fallout 4 is working with
Pimax @ 1920 x 1080 (geometric 3D) with 36 FPS ???!!!! and looks wonderful (headtracker has a big drift, the picture smears with moving of the head – but it looks overall much better than vive for me)

Skyrim se is working with htc vive
but is working with Pimax only 2D why ? I have no idea

Alien isolation is working with Pimax in geometric 3D also !

    best regards

I have also been having this issue. Vorpx seems to be running on it’s own but Vorpconfig just closes with that error. I do not have any virus software installed, disabled Windows Defender and reinstalled Framework 3.5. Killed any possible task in the background. Nothing seems to work.
I would really like to run SkyrimSE prelim profiles but I can’t load them without the config. Not sure what else to try. Is there another way to install the profiles without the vorpconfig? All the vorpx settings seem to work in inside a game but without the SkyrimSE profile I’m not getting any 3D support and it looks bad.

What else could I try to get the config to work? Also started as admin and that doesn’t work either. Seems so weird to me that vorpx works but the config does not.

I also sent email to vorpx support with no response. I bought it to use specifically with Fallout 4 and SkyrimSE. Fallout 4 at least had a profile installed so that’s working.

Hi I’m trying to get fallout 4 setup with vorpx and have fun into a couple issues.
I’m using an oculus rift and the steam controller.

1- unless I increase the zoom greatly I’m seeing dead space on the top and bottom of my field of view. Right now I’m using letter head 1 with the zoom almost maxed. It removes the grey dead areas on the top and bottom however now I’m missing a lot of screen space on the sides.

The other issue I’m having is using terminals.
Whether looking right at what I want to select or using the controller to highlight something I’m finding it almost impossible to actually click on anything in the terminals. Anyone else having an issue similar to this?

In contrast to the original Skyrim there is no forward rendering path for shadows anymore in Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4. Deferred shadows like used in these often can’t be 100% fixed unfortunately.

It’s possible to transform and shift them around a bit which can make them look almost right in more important parts of the scene, and in the best case that can be *almost* indescernible from fully correct shadows most of the time, but that will never be as good as shadows that are directly rendered into the scene.

Deferred renderers are a great thing in many ways, but for applying Stereo 3D retroactively they are primarily a major PITA.

If the vorpX profile for a game contains shadow definitions, you can usually switch them off on the image page of the vorpX ingame menu. That is the case for both FO4 and Skyrim SE.

For perspective, my $50 for Vorpx has given me over 50 hours of enjoyment with the following games (and I’ve got so many more to go) ….

    Dying Light
    Fallout 4
    GTA V
    Far Cry 3
    7 Days to Die
    Morrowind
    Oblivion
    Skyrim (old and new)
    No Man’s Sky

All these games run mediocre to awesome at a beautiful 1920 x 1440 base resolution, and training has minimized my motion sickness (try standing at a waist-level keyboard and mouse tray …. maybe even walk in place while your character is walking)

Sorry you are having trouble, but as the previous poster has stated, a little tinkering and you can get pennies-per-hour of enjoyment from this product. Give it another chance, and pound the forums with questions about your specific games. We will help you get them running best we can.

The possible resolutions are only limited by your PC’s performance. In most games you probably will see quite severe performance issues with the full per eye res of a 4K display, but technically you can use any resolution you want.

YES that’s what I wanted to hear!
    Tahk you very much !
I have no problem with 10 FPS if I will have a 4K resolution !!
can’t wait to receive the pimax …

are there any chances that the shadows will be corrected somewhere in the future ?
Is it possible to switch of the non stereoscopic shadows (Fallout4/skyrim se) ?

    best regards FR3D

Last week I ordered a Pimax.

It has a native resolution of 3840×2160 pixel.

what do you think – what will be the highest possible resolution for vorpx.

1920 x 2160 will be the max. theoretical resolution per eye.

Is it possible the adjust all thinkable resolutions within the
fallout 4 / skyrim se *.ini file ?

    best regards FR3D

I’ve been using Direct head tracking within Fallout 4 and it was working great. I published my configuration on this forum previously with mods that helped immersion.

After some more recent Oculus and possibly nVidia (980 TI) driver updates this is now very jerky using direct head tracking and it is worse than without direct enabled. Is there an updated Vorpx release that is built using the latest Oculus drivers which might help bring back that smooth tracking?

Direct mode even for the month or so that it was working was fantastic and I can’t wait for it to work again.

I’ve had nothing but problems getting fallout new vegas to work. First it wasn’t working at all in windows 10 so I found out I needed to download NVAC and NVSE to even get the game to load past the intro. Now everything works fine without vorpx. With vorpx, I can load my save fine but as soon as I start to look around via gamepad, mouse, or HMD, the game appears to alt tab and freeze for a few seconds. If I take off the HMD and look at my monitor I notice that the game is alt tabbed. If I navigate back to the game it works, but if I look around again the same thing happens. This makes it completely unplayable.

I’ve tried setting all the settings to low, 1280×1024 resolution, nothing seems to fix it. Has anyone else had any luck getting it up and running?

I’m running it on a 4690k with a gtx 1060 with all my drivers up-to-date on a HTC vive.

In reply to: List of G3D games?

    Ralf

The spreadsheet gives a pretty good overview. A few G3D games are missing (e.g. Bioshock 2, Fallout 4 from briefly skimming over it), but other than that it’s pretty much the current state.

A little hint for advanced users: not all G3D games have positional tracking enabled per default, either because it wasn’t tested or found to be too glitchy. You can enable it in all G3D games yourself though at your own risk if the expert options checkbox is ticked in the config app. The according options then can be found on the head tracking page of the ingame menu.

Is there a list of G3D compatible games somewhere? Or is it only Fallout 4 and SKyrim that support it?

That sounds great. I always thought pos tracking wasn’t possible for Z3D. If it works for Fallout 4 can we assume that it will also work for Skyrim SE?
